I just adopted a dog that was left alone in the streets. He is mt buddy now. I am so happy with him. Let's help people to save this dogs.

Re: tigra – That's a pretty good deal for Mexico. America gets poor uneducated humans and takes care of them. Human by the way live a lot longer than dogs and cost a lot more to feed and shelter. Mexico gets lots of free dogs that can be kept as pets or turned into food. They could even stamp "Hecho En Mexico" and then sell them back to us via Petsmart. A real win win.

A Vizsla woud never go to a kill shelter because they're purebread and cost about a thousand dollars. It's an adorable photo used to catch people's attention but they should use a more valid pucture of a mutt - that's the kind of dog you find at kill shelters.

NO, there are TONS of purebred dogs in shelters because dumbasses go and buy them and then realize how much work is involved in caring for them! Have you ever even been in a shelter??? There are tons of labs, german shepherds, and designer dogs that are so inbred they have behavioral issues and medical problems that the owners are unwilling to deal with. Lots of purebred rescues find and rescue most of their dogs in shelters.

Helpinng man-dependant dogs and helping Burma and China are not mutually exclusive. A person absolutely can do both. Charity begins at home. Burma has to let help IN, and China has 1.6 Billion who want to help their own, along with the world. How many of the dudes decrying dogs while pointing at the quake victims have actually gone to contribute money to either overseas tragedy? Right. Do it, and then go give to your local shelter, or walk an orphaned dog or two.

I'd rather donate my money on helping *people*; if all the money that's been wasted on animal welfare was used to alleviate human suffering instead, it would be put to better use. The problem is now animals are elevated to human status but people are treated like animals.Human life is being devalued.
The money would be better spent helping the poor, the homeless, victims of war, famine,natural disasters, refugees,the foodbanks, etc..I don't think it's right to abuse animals, (and all creation should be treated humanely and with respect) but people are more important and should come first, before animals, and before the environment.
Instead of sending money for animals how about send it to China or Myanmar instead?

Each year hundreds of thousands of dogs are killed in dog shelter because there isn't enough space for all of them. In order to create rooms for new arrival dogs, older one must be killed.
So adopt a dog instead.
Why is an animal's well-being more important then those who are homeless or going hungry in this country??? Why is it we only see "Hollywood" involved in the homeless and hungry during Thanksgiving (can you say "Photo-opportunity?". I knew you could).

It is very sad. They showed a healthy dog on Oprah being euthanized because there was no room at the shelter. It looked like a yellow lab, so sweet. It wagged it's tail at the guy putting the needle in it's leg. Then at the end of the day they wheel the dead animals out the back door in garbage bags. Please - Have your pets spayed and neutered people!!!!

Perez, thank you for continuing to post about the tragic circumstances that befall shelter pets. Shelter pets are mostly there due to their owner's disregard: "moving", "no time" "new allergies" etc. are poor excuses and the realities of why people dump their pets to die in shelters. Breeders are also the problem-There are not enough homes……DO NOT BREEDER OR BUY WHEN SHELTER ANIMALS DIE!
Do not pay any attention to any negative comments. You bringing awareness to the cause is extremely appreciated and desperately needed.
Animals do not have a voice, and please do keep posting about animal causes. The people who complain about your causes posts I doubt have ever donated to any cause for that matter.

People have a choice, and more of a chance to make it on their own. It you want to bitch and moan about saving the lives of people in other countries, get up, fly your ass out there and make a difference. I've rescused a handful of animals from humane soceites and rescue groups, what have you done to save anything?

Please before looking into getting a pet, do your homework. An animal is a big responsiblity. It seems too often that people rush out to get a dog, for example, and end up taking it to their local shelter because they didn't realize what it took to raise a dog. There are vet bills, food costs, and pets need attention. You wouldn't forget to feed your child would you? You wouldn't negelect your kid or refuse to take it to the doctor when they needed medical attetion would you? Thousands of animals are abused, neglected, and die every day because people mistreat them. Research, reasearch and rescuse.
I just adopted a rescue puppy that was going to be killed with her 7 other siblings and her mom just because "there was no room." That's a disgusting way to treat animals and more people should adopt rescued dogs and not support puppy mills. And the government should pass a NO KILL law for all shelters…treat animals with the respect and love they deserve!
It saddens me to hear some of the terrible comments here. I love animals, especially puppies. Please everyone help save them!
I'm a big animal lover too, but all these vets that love animals so much should be doing the spaying and neutering for free. It would cut down on the population of animal cruelty and save tons of money in the long run. Some people can't afford to have this done, it may not seem like much money to some but when you live paycheck to paycheck it is. THAT'S WHAT YOU NEED TO GET STARTED PEREZ, PASS A LAW FOR FREE SPAYING AND NEUTERING.

I have to agree that spaying and neutering pets is the only way to stop this problem… people can not imagine not only the massive amounts of purebred pets who are killed each year in the shelters but also the way they are killed in some. Here in the south some shelters still have gas chambers where pets are thrown into huge metal boxes and suffocated, then there is also the heartstick where a vet jabs a needle into the heart…. sometimes killing the pet, sometimes just making them suffer an unimaginable pain until they eventually die. I am actually a rescuer but not like a typical rescue, we transport pets from the southern states to New England where they do spay and neuter and dont have pet overpopulation like other places do. And YES, cute pups like this one DO go to shelters and DO get euthanized!!! The amount of pets with papers that get euthanized is shocking! Re: pannell64 – Vet clinics are out there to educate and offer up their services to make money. They are businesses and cannot offer free spaying and neutering. That is why there are shelters and humane soceites who do it for free of charge or there is a cost of $50. There is time, money and rescourses involved to spay and neuter animals. Just research, there are places in your areas that are available to spay and neuter free or for low cost!
