On May 31st, fans of super Emo group My Chemical Romance are planning to march across London to protest what they consider to be the unfair depiction of the band in the British media.
The march will start at Hyde Park's West Pond and end outside the offices of The Daily Mail, who organizers call the 'worst' offender in the media.
The newspaper recently anointed My Chemical Romance a 'suicide cult' band in its reports covering the suicide of a 13-year old British girl named Hannah Bond.
Three hundred fans are reportedly confirmed to march.

My Chemical Romance is not my favorite… I bet the UK is pissed because Muse (best band in the UK/WORLD) had to play as fucking OPENER for this shitty generic band in the states! Things are backwards and fucked up in America and Muse opening for MCR is solid proof. I understand the British media vendetta against MCR and bringing up their emo fans is an easy way to start.

Sadly, this is so unfair to My Chemical Romance. I have been to several of their concerts and they are HUGELY against suicide. They always take out a minute to bring up the lights and mention how it is not the answer… etc. I have great respect for their morals on this subject.

I'm glad they're doing something positive about the situation. As someone who's worked with teenagers who've attempted suicide, it is clearly the girl's PARENTS fault–any parent who does not react to a teenager saying "I feel like killing myself" is a poor parent. Yes, teenagers are melodramatic, but it does not mean that you do not investigate the topic further. Sure, maybe the "emo" kids are influencing one another to cut themselves, but how is that any different from when we pierced our ears with safety pins? It's for show. I guess parents always have to look for someone else to blame.

it was like 3 days ago, me and my bff were going to get tattoos and i remember him putting blink 182 and "the adam song" came out and we were like, "oh, its the suicide song", and i told him that i remember watching TRL(when it was all good…*carson daly*) and hearing that some guy attemped suicide and the song was on repeat and that is how his mother find out that he killed himself. sad :[

The "emo" labelling is such a negative thing. It has negative connotations, I hate how bands that attempt to distance themselves from it all, for example My Chemical Romance, keep getting sucked it. It's not nice to be blamed for a young teenagers suicide, but no on believes it was My Chemical Romance's influence that did it, people blame the whole "emo" influence. Emo is not new, it is just more mainstream now. The Daily Mail/ My Chemical Romance battle is not new, it is just more widely publicised now. This march will achieve nothing, it will just attach the band further to "emo" and put them in the firing line for more abuse. Let the girl rest in peace and stop using her to start an emo's against the world style argument, that includes the media and the "emos".

Alright, I see what's going on. Perez, I'm a bit disappointed. You are always posting blogs suggesting that your readers donate to foundations and spread peace and all that good stuff. It's perfectly fine to not like the band, but personally if you haven't actually listened to the band, in depth, then you are blindly talking. Proudly I can say they are my favorite band, and I can also say that I do not follow the whole stereotypical dress code on to which most MCR fans are seen as. Blink 182 emo? Really? It saddens me how the older population always wants to blame something like music. Seriously, I didn't get the whole emo thing when I was in high school, (two years ago) but I knew it was more about fashion than real angst. If that girl hadn't had the dark eyeliner and black clothes, no one would have paid attention. Her life and death has turned into a gimmick to sell papers. What's wrong with the youth today? No one wants to pay attention to them beyond the casual discussion and broad statements. And really, if she was so depressed, her parents should have noticed. No, not by her clothes, but by her behavior. It's not hard to veil depression, but you can only do it to a certain point. And sometimes…life is just tragic. But really, MCR or any other "emo" band is to blame.
If I were British I would be WAY more concerned with Amy Winehouse or Pete Doherty than My Chemical Romance as they make me want to kill myself, so imagine the effect on a 13 year old…

uhhh yeah it does. these people are teenages, children. listening to depressive music affects you. it puts you in a mood, and that mood is a negative one. this story is old though, it's happened before and will happen again. i think that people are already sensitive to depression, but glorifying death and despression will only make it worse.
