A donkey is doing time in southern Mexico for assault and battery.
The animal was locked up at a local jail after it bit and kicked two men near a ranch in Chiapas state, police said yesterday.
Officer Sinar Gomez said the donkey will remain behind bars until its owner agrees to pay the men's medical bills.
"Around here, if someone commits a crime they are jailed," Gomez said, "no matter who they are."

If anyone should be in jail, it would be the owner…and since there is no information given about where it happened or the circumstances, etc then there really isn't a reason for anyone to be in jail.

Don't judge before you know all the facts.
Of course, it sounds stupid to put the donkey in jail. But for example, when some people have accidents with their cars and cause some damages, the cars get impounded and many many times the drivers are free to go (or they escape).
Why isn't that STUPID also?
Please bear in mind that this happened near a ranch, so the donkey might be the only mean of transportation his owner has…. so it doesn't sound that stupid at all…
