Again!

We're gonna have to start looking into a non-fuel-based car.

It's costing soooo much to fill your tank these days!

    I'm fucking pissed! They already have alternative fuel cars (GMC has a "go yellow" campaing that fuels cars from corn!) the only thing is…. the politicians need to make it a fucking law that more alternative fuels be made or more alternative cars/stations be made aswell… but they don't fucking care! they said gas is going to be 6 dolars by late November in LA and that fucking sucks balls! and No ONES doing anything about it….. as gas prices grow no one is stricking…. we all are keep on driving, sitting in traffic, and going to fill up twice a week…. It's our own fault but serioulsy someone needs to just make a fucking law to change this shit….. GET ON IT OPRAH!

    Fuel from Corn is NOT a VIABLE alternative fuel source. It TAKES MORE ENERGY TO PRODUCE THAN GAS and PRODUCES LESS..

    Not to mention the FOOD SHORTAGE CRISIS it will cause. As the price for corn rises, GRAIN FEED costs rise. In turn the cost for EVERYTHING that eats the grain goes up..ie ALL meat products.

    If EVERY SINGLE ACRE OF AMERICAN dirt had CORN on it it would STILL NOT be enough to fuel the country..

    OIL IS NOT A SCARCE RESOURCE and it DID NOT / DOES NOT COME FROM "Dinosaur Bones" that's ridiculous. There is still TONS of untapped oil in the earth. Ask the Russians drilling 30 THOUSAND feet UNDER the Caspian..no DINOSAURS WERE EVER 30 THOUSAND FEET BELOW ANYTHING…EVER Besides Everest. The stupid liberal whack jobs who value animal life OVER human life are the REAL problem here. WE NEED TO DRILL WE NEED TO MAKE NEW REFINIERIES..Period.

    Big Oil and the Auto Industry made sure it died.

  39. DutchDrop says – reply to this
    39

    They do have a non-fuel vehicle…it was called the EV1 and GM produced it in the early 90s but only produced a few thousands cars, SUVs and trucks AND they would only lease them. The state of California even built "plug-in" stations throughout the state for unexpected recharges on the road ways. After alternative fuel initiatives failed in Cailfornia due to a lawsuit from most of the major car companies because the initiative was too difficult and costly for them to follow, GM pulled the cars from the road and destroyed them all. They then sold the rights to the battery (which I think could go 100 miles without a charge, which is sufficient for most commuter daily travel) to Exxon who I am sure has destroyed all prototypes.

    There is a great documentary about it called "Who Killed the Electric Car." We must as citizens of this country and this world stop the oil companies from running our economies and this planet into the ground. The downfall of of our economy and our democracy will occurl because of rising energy costs, which is ridiculous because we have the technology and alternatives out there, they will just cost stock holders too much in profits. It is up to we, the "little people," to make sure that they do not continue to succeed in their efforts to stifle enivornmentally-friendly progress.

    40

    I am sick to death of everyone telling us to "take public transportaion". Unless you are in a major city, it's just not an option. I also don't believe the bullshit that the Bush administration spews regarding "increasing fuel consumption"…utter bullshit. No one can convince me that fuel consumption has quadrupled since the George Bush took office. If anything it has decreased due to companies closing down at a record pace. This republican administration will bankrupt this country. George Bush is more destructive to this country than Saddam Hussein was to Iraq!

    wow..
    reading some of these comments makes me want to cry..
    apparently "man people are stupid" (how appropriate) seems to feel that it's more important that "human life" gets to continue to breed like rabbits and pay 99 cents a gallon for gas, and that "animal life" should be relegated to a small room in the museum where you can pay 5 bucks and go see a stuffed panda.
    real, living, animals apparently, as far as he is concerned, don't deserve to live on this planet, only humans- all so we can continue to drive SUV's, if i get this asshat's meaning correctly.
    just goddamn fucking sad such morons can be allowed to live…

    43

    In Europe it is typically higher much higher for gas in England gas or petrol as they call it runs about $10 a gallon. What is interesting to me is that before Shrubya came into office gas was below $2 a gallon. Now anytime at all that he struts around to other countries and tries to force his hand they just laugh. He has made our country and embarassment on the world stage so how in the world would he think that any Middle Eastern head of state is going to listen when he asks for more oil ? Aside from that anytime at all that day traders are provoked by fear or uncertainty they jack up the prices by selling their shares. Much of what we pay for also are the development of countries such as India who take our industry now they use more gas and who pays ? We do of course. It will be interesting to see what will happen to oil prices when the next President comes into office.

    Re: wordtoyourmother – our "president" has tried through congress and senate to get the oil executives to account for their record profits but in the end it does not a damn thing. They sit on Capitol Hill smiling arrogantly and giving the finger to Bush in essence. Their feeling collectively seems to be why should we justify our profits and we arent making as much as you think ?! Hummmmm wonder just how much is going into Bush's pocket via his oil stocks

  45. jay says – reply to this
    45

    perez (and some of you readers), you sometimes amaze me with your stupidity. a car without fuel? what, do you want us to power it ourselves like the flintstones? cars need energy to move, which is powered by fuel. fuel doesn't have to be gas!
    and these "boycott gas" days are just laughable. do you think that you can get even 1% of the population to obey? even if you could get 100%, it's not going to change the price of oil. the reality is that WE are eating it up much to fast - study economics 101 and learn that the price is directly related with how much we use.
    the real solution is to cut consumption - by a hybrid, WALK to the store (novel concept), live closer to your office, take public transport. until people start making LIFESTYLE changes, this problem is going to exist.

    the government and several companies are already spending billions investing in alternative energy. it's not like these changes occur overnight. you act as though it's an easy transition and that nobody cares enough to make it. we're in a crisis, and all the smart people that need to be are working on it. do YOUR part and use less

  46. m says – reply to this

    For all who blame Bush and/or the Oil Co's - stop being so damn ignorant. At it's current price, Exxon/Chevron get about $0.10 of profit for each gallon of gas. That's 2.5% of the current cost, people. But you probably blame Budweiser when the bartender charges you $4.00 for a beer too. Blame China and India for their growing demand, blame the refineries and Hurricane Katrina for knocking down our refining capacity, and most of all - blame the environmentalists who forbid US companies for drilling in deep waters off our own coasts. Brazil allows deep sea exploration and recently discovered 33 billion barrels off their coast. Since Valdez how many large oil spills have there been? Get over it, Tree huggers!!!!! If we didn't have environmentalists (not all, just the overzealous ones) we probably wouldn't have the Iraq Wars or a presence in Saudi Arabia and with that - probably no Al Queda. And the biggest irony of it all - its the liberal tree huggers who bash our attempts to secure our economy's life blood.

    How to fix it - Make a deal with the tree huggers and the Oil Co's- we explore / drill off our own coasts and then use a portion of the profits, knowing oil is finite, to advance alternative fuels. Drop the SUV tax breaks & give the breaks to electric/hydrogen/or hybrid vehicles. Furthermore, charge a luxury tax on SUV's. It's all so do-able.

    You ain't seen nothing yet. Wait until it's $13 a gallon. $100. Your grandchildren will never fly on a plane. Driving a car will be a luxury few can afford.
    After gas hits that price, probably in 8 years or less, then the rationing will begin. You won't have to worry about getting to work, because your company will fold, as will most others on earth. Target? Walmart? Hahahahahahaha.
    There will be massive food riots, forget gas riots. Billions will die of starvation and disease, not to mention war and general mayhem.
    The future is full of horror, and will stay that way for a good 100 years, if we're lucky. These are the good old days, enjoy them.
    It's too late to fix it without a great turmoil. Too little too late.
    You've seen the Road Warrior? It will happen.

    Re: The Electric Car Was Murdered – Uh no..The Electric car was Dead On Arrival. But you are too stupid to understand that. I will try to dumb it down for you.

    The problem, as always, was the battery. "Scientifically [battery] storage is all right," wrote Thomas Edison in 1883, "but commercially, as absolute a failure as one can imagine." More than a century later, nothing had changed…

    A battery is merely an energy storage device, not a source of energy. Even today, a kilogram of the very best performing lead-acid battery can store barely 0.4 percent the energy contained in a kilogram of gasoline. (By way of comparison, a kilogram of the latest, most efficient lithium-ion batteries, can only store about 1.2 percent the energy contained a kilogram of gasoline.)

    The 2970-lb EV1 needed 1175-lb of lead-acid battery to go just 90 miles on the highway, and 70 miles in the city . Add in the FACT that they cost 80,000 Dollars EACH to manufacture.

    Can ONLY go 90 miles before needing HOURS charging, and what to do with the TONS AND TONS of used lead/acid batteries..cuz those are REAL good for the environment…

    Re: Elena – Are you tree huggers really that stupid. First it will take a couple of decades to convert to alternative fuels if the research people can figure it out. If we don't keep using oil during this period than food will be used for fuel . Millions will lose their jobs and the rich will only survive. We will look like a third world country. All the time we are setting on an estimated trillion barrels in COL and off shore. Our enemies will sell to us at their prices to bust our economy and we will have to buy to keep from freezing to death. The PRES. has nothing to do with this. You Libs put Nancy in office to lower gas prices. this should prove the only politics are supply and demand and ownership. Maybe AAA airlines sizing down will be a wake up call . You libs need to see that we need to own our on fuel as we convert .otherwise, we will all be burning those lovely trees for fuel and eating the precious wildlife for food. Maybe when half of you Liberals have lost your jobs you might be willing to work on a drilling Rig.

    Alaska and Caribou. People who don't want us to drill off the coast of Alaska using their knee-jerk "Caribou" reasoning - know this. Since 1977 there has been an oil pipeline running from the north to the south over the ENTIRE state of Alaska. Yes, 30+ years of peaceful coexistence with the caribou. The oil in the pipe is very warm and this actually attracts the caribou on cold nights. And the funniest thing, studies have shown they prefer to mate near it. It's the Caribou Love pipeline, people! Also, not sure how drilling off the COAST is more threatening to a land-based animal than an existing 800 mile long pipeline traversing rivers, mountains, and tundra.

    A little over one year ago:

    1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
    2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
    3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

    Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

    1) Consumer confidence plummet;
    2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon;
    3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);
    4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);
    5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;
    6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

    America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!

    Re: Man people are stupid – Bless you voice of reason. The US has reserves to supply our energy needs for the next 150 years. That is only the reserves that we know about. Yet, we can't drill in ANWR (just one of many we have identified)…to save what I am not sure, since there are no trees on the northern Alaskan slope. Oil can be drilled in an environmentaly sound way, but no..we need to preserve scenary. This is in addition to having cut our oil refining in half in the last, I think, 10 years. Per Bill Clinton… "We just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions ’cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren." Hmm, there are 31,000 proven scientific petitioners that say otherwise as to the human effect on global warming. Check out the Global Warming Petition (just google the words.)…and see for your selves.
    I would love to see alternative fuel sources, but this nation will not be converted to anything NATIONALLY within the next 10 years. Stop bitching and really educate yourselves.
