Oil prices hit a new high on Wednesday.

Again!

We're gonna have to start looking into a non-fuel-based car.

It's costing soooo much to fill your tank these days!

You Americans are so stupid. Do you not know your new congress receives political donations from people like my Emir? Did you not know that your esteemed envirionmental groups are partially funded by our oil profits? Ever wonder if the Sierra Club cared so much about your pristeen deserts they would not put a halt to millions of illegals crossing your Southwestern border and trashing it? They won't allow you do drill on your own offshore but let the Chinese and Cubans? You allow Mrs. Pelosi to run your country into the ground is your own business. I will warn you of something though, in 10 years ALL of our oil will be going to China and is will be by force. You better start worrying. Hassan in Oman.

You shouldn't bitch, here in Holland we pay 6.2 EURO for a gallon a.k.a. 9.7 US dollars!!! Now it isn't so bad to be in the US now, is it?

Fuck europe and england you have good public transportation. Nobody was talking about europe or england you idots. we have shitty public transportation and some people drive for a living here and have to pay for their own gas. Mind you own business europeions! we have some serious issues going on here and something needs to be done fast before riots break out. crime rates are already climbing bacause people are having to get gas instead of food so they are turning to crime to make ends meet and put food on the table.

Re: Man your stupid – I'd say you're the dumb motherfucker if you think destroying even more of the animal's habitat won't have an effect. One of the things that helps decrease the CO2 in the air are the trees. So, lets cut down even more forests and raise the CO2 levels and destroy the planet even further. Let's displace more animals while people continue to build and buy their McMansion's. And "look at coyotes"? Why in the hell do you think there are more incidences of coyotes attacking small children? BECAUSE THEY ARE HUNGRY, HAVE NO WHERE TO LIVE AND THEIR FOOD SUPPLY HAS BEEN DEPLETED.

Please, read more and stop thinking your pea brain has all the answers. It doesn't.

Its depressing. I feel as though I am working just to be able to pay to work! I spend about 70 bucks a week in gas just to get there and back. The rising costs are making everything else expensive, and then your employers are giving you a crappy 2% year end raise because the economy is so bad! It feels like a downward spiral.
I don't want to hear Europeans comlpain because they have an efficient and available public transportation system and they don't have as far to drive just to get to work! Try living in NJ w/out a car- you need to drive about 5 miles to take the bus that drops you off about 5 miles from where you want to go. I drive 40 miles (1 way) to get top work, and that is normal.

the technology has been there for "non-fuel based cars" for decades. Watch "who killed the electric car." There is simply a ton of money to be made off of oil consumption, so the oil companies squash any new technology. Plus, it doesn't help that people STILL feel the need to go out and buy cars that get horrible gas mileage. and, a lot of car manufacturers STILL make cars that get horrible gas mileage. I see people commuting every day in a huge SUV by themselves. #26—you're a fucking moron. There is only about 6 months worth of crude oil in Alaska. That area is preserved. If drilled there, it will cause irreversible damage for a 6 month supply. That doesn't fix the problem, but adds to it. Do at least some research. It has nothing to do with liberals. It's time you quit listening to the "conservative nutjobs." GW needs to focus on a decrease in demand instead of an increase in supply.

      117

What's so ridiculous, is in 1996 GM came up with something called the electric car. It was more economical and needed next to nothing as far as service, but they discovered due to the evectiveness of this car, they weren't making enough money.
So GM, killed the electric car

you can youtube it.. its kinda messed up

    18. Gord says – reply to this

      118

Oil, Schmoil. Everyone knew decades ago that it was a limited resource. Add India and China, and you knew there wouldn't be enough. Alternate forms of transportation energy are likely available, youtube/ free energy, but the infrastructure is in place for oil and employs thousands, so alternate energy won't be brought in until its necessitated. The framework should be laid sooner than later, though, or it will be a nasty transition. Brazil is completely oil independent; after they came to a standstill decades ago in a gas shortage, they weaned the whole country off of oil. They use ethanol produced in their sugar cane fields, and it's cleaner burning. Ethanol users support their own economy, but it takes up edible crop space. The lid will be forcefully kept on alternate energy until the wells run dry, IMHO.

I decided rather than blaming the government (or anyone else for that matter) I would do what I could do about it.
I went out and spent a couple hundred bucks investing in a nice bicycle and a bike trailer (I have two toddlers) and now I ride my bike 5 of 7 days a week. Saves lots of money and cuts down on the "demand" that big oil companies are claim being the reason for such high prices.
We could all ride bikes more, seeing as how the US is full of obese people.
      I'm just saying.

You're an idiot, Perez. A "Non-fuel based car"? Really? While gasoline, Fuel does not automatically = gasoline. What you should have said is "an alternatively fueled vehicle". And all you freaking liberal dipshits blaming Bush, go piss up the tree your same sex partner is hugging. Bush has nothing to do with it. He didn't invent the recession just like Al Gore didn't invent the internet. And he sure as hell didn't put it all in OPEC, where the U.S. can't dictate production. Morons.

What Europeans don't understand is, the US is a LARGE PLACE. If I want to say, drive to NY to Oregon. there is not going to be a public transport other than a plane or train to take me. And both of those cost more than just driving even with the price of gas today.

It wasn't Bush or Clinton's fault. Even though the Clinton's did announce in the 90s that soon gas prices would reach past a $5 mark.

It was announced this morning (5/23) that by the end of 2009, US (California) will be at $7.00 per gallon. My father works in the trucking business, I feel for him and the people in his field with diesel cost, ugh.

    30. Tamara says – reply to this

      130

      TRUE.
there actually was the electric car back in the day but GM wont release it anymore because it will 'cut their prices in half'…meaning oil companies will only be making 54 BILLION instead of 7859294 BILLION off Americans. Pathetic, with gas prices so high and only going higher we're eventually gonna have to resort to something else…Middle class people will be considered poor and poor people might as well die because they can hardly live now.

      131

SUCKERS!!! MOST OF THE OIL USED BY THE U.S.A. COMES FROM CANADA - MEXICO - VENEZUELA - TEXAS, AND ONLY A SMALL PORTION COMES FROM THE MIDDLE EAST. THERE HAS BEEN NO FLUCTUATION IN THE SUPPLY PROCESS. YOU ARE ALL BEING CONNED WITH LIES, AND YOUR GOVERNMENT DOES NOT GIVE A SHIT, BECAUSE EVERY TIME THE OIL COMPANIES INCREASE THE PRICE OF GAS, THE GOVERNMENT'S TAX REVENUES GO UP, AND WHEN THE PRICE OF OIL DOES GO UP, STATIONS ARE ALLOWED TO START CHARGING THE NEW PRICES IMMEDIATELY, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE SELLING YOU THE OLD SUPPLY THAT THEY BOUGHT AT THE LOWER PRICE. LEMMINGS!!!
