Good News For Idol

The downwards trend is over!
Though ratings for American Idol have been much lower this year, compared to previous seasons, last night's finale was up 4% from last year's finale.
A whopping 30.6 million people tuned in Wednesday night.
Still, it's not all good news for Idol.
Viewership for this year's finale was down amongst the highly-coveted 18 to 49 year-olds.
And, last night’s season finale was down 16% from the 36.4 million viewers who watched the season finale two years ago.

I thought last night's show was GREAT! Not alot of crap in between- A nice combination of great artists (ZZ TOP!!! Graham Nash!) I never switched channels until George Michael's ballad (zzzz) I thought it was a great show and they need to keep that format…
The show sucks, but I think people are too hard on David Archuletta. He's only a kid. People need to stop calling him gay.

I only watched to see Donna Summer's performance and boy was she great!!!!!!!!!!!!That woman is fuckin' A M A Z I N G!!!!!!!!Talk about a true artist who really has a voice to sing with.Very impressing,hope to see her back high on the charts where she deserves to be.

I honestly think this was the best season of Idol EVER. Blake and Jordan compared to the David's? I flip flopped from Archie to Cook, and I went into the finale last night really wanting them both to win. I now have PID… post idol depression. I'm really going to miss seeing those two every week!

You got that right buddy, "The Queen is back" , Gosh her voice still strong as 30 years ago. Her newest album "Crayons" got a mix of music styles from Rock, Hip hop, Regge, Dance, etc….. Donna Summer is streaching her carrer hope the young ones give a chance to listen her music and they'll love it !

Perez, I hate that you have started talking about ratings, etc. It is common for a program that has been on as long as Idol to lose some steam, however you forget Idol Tuesday and Idol Wednesday are still both the highest rated programs on TV. So yes, while they might have to revamp the show to keep it current and keep viewership up… I don't think the execs of the show are crying about this. Stick to gossip, not ratings info!!

I really could care less. I think Idol is rigged more than ever (they lost Daughtry and want to create a new Daughtry, which will NOT happen with D. Cook). Next January, I'll read a good book and not waste my time until the folks at Idol revamp the voting system and ditch Paula and Randy. Idol's time has come and gone…..its finally jumped the shark!

Idol will continue to improve if they get rid of the shmaltz and focus on making it an actual talent competition like they did this year. People are sick to death of the reality show aspect of it with the endless horrible auditions, outdated song categories and biased judging. We want more David Cooks; people who are actual musicians and not just karaoke singers, we want the show to be a platform for unsigned ARTISTS. And I don't mean "plants" but actual undiscovered talent like David Cook and Elliott Yamin. No one was fooled by Carly Smithson. The judges need to be fair in their criticisms too and stop pimping people they want to win. As you can see, America is not listening to them. Lose the 30 year olds songs too and let them sing more CURRENT music.

The David Cook/ZZtop thing was GREAT. Love that they them use their instruments this year. Michael Johns was fantastic too. I would have liked to have seen more Chickezie, he's really good. Cook has a great career ahead of him. I just hope they don't try to turn him into Daughtry, Daughtry bores me. I would like to see him do something more relevant than Daughtry. I see him as a more introspective type singer like Springsteen.

I tuned in to watch Carrie Underwood perform and dang she was hot in that short dress. Loved that song too. Got a bonus to see zztop and jonas bros. the show was a little boring until some better people got on. George Michael is awesome but Im sorry to say Carrie blew that song out of house on AI gives back. Just like she does I Told You So by Randy Travis. She's the bomb.
