Get Well Soon!
Earlier this year, The National Enquirer reported that actor and director Paul Newman had undergone surgery for an undisclosed cancer.
To that, his rep denied the reports and released a statement on behalf of Paul saying, "I'm being treated for athlete's foot and hair loss … maybe the doctors know something that I don't!"
Well, it seems that Newman might be facing health issues now.
Paul was scheduled to direct the stage production for Of Mice and Men at the Westport Country Playhouse. Instead, he has stepped down because of health issues.
Set to take his place is director Mark Lamos, who has directed several plays, musicals, and operas.
In regards to his departure, Newman said, "I'm very sorry I can't be part of this Westport Country Playhouse production, but I leave 'Of Mice and Men' in Mark Lamos' very capable hands with the full support of my wife, Joanne Woodward, and Anne Keefe as Playhouse artistic directors."
Let's hope he gets better soon and it's nothing too serious!

Old people are soooo adorable! An wtf is up with the spambots, 2 times in a row today? They think think old man is dating several hotties off the interwebs? Puh-lease, rich peope don't use the internets, they have lives…
Re: asswipe – You sir are going to be a star. That make me laugh out loud fo sho.
Helluva man, helluva an actor. Get well soon! And yes, he was the shizz back in the day. My fave role of his, though, was as the hockey coach/player in Slapshot. Hysterical!!!
this remind's me of the time my pet squirell laid a clutch of egg's and wouldnt tend to them so I asked my neighbor to loan me his pet python so that the snake could incubate the egg's. It worked out quite nice until the snake started molesting those poor little squirell's and before we even knew what was going on we had little squirell/snake hybrid's running all over the house and what not. I told my self that I would never let this happen again anf guess what, it did. so, I decided to open a diner near the intersection of florence & normandie to serve up some squirell/snake hybrid omelete's and you wouldnt belive it but they were a hit until the rodney king riot's started and those darn people burned down my diner. oh well,I can alway's go back in the roller pidgeon business. woo hoo
Paul and his family have always been class acts.
It would be sad if he were ill.
Today's entertainers could take a hint about how to conduct their personal and professional lives from him.
I saw him jogging in Roswell, GA this past Saturday. I hope is okay.
Paul is incredible. I wish him a speedy recovery.
He' s one of my favorite actors and all-time classic hottie. I hope he gets well.
You know 83 is a good age, its not exactly a tragedy to get ill and die in one's 80's. At this point he has already outlived the average male in America, no-one goes on for ever after all. Personally if I make it to my 80's upright I'll be thrilled! But going on and on into the diaper years just to rack up a few more is not what I or most older people would wish.
I hope all is well. He was at the playhouse just last weekend.
All you youngsters enjoy your youth. Aging happens to everyone if you live long enough. Paul may be old now but check him out 30 years ago–hot!!!!
Get well soon. You are one of the last true memories of my generation. Your Hud. Cat on a hot tin roof. You know what I'm talking about. It hurts to let go but it's inevitable. Love you Paul. All the way.
yo, i live in westport… his daughter used to live down the road from me. he has a restaurant here in wepo too. yayyyy.
In addition to his film legacy, his charity "Newman's Choice" has donated over 200 million dollars since inception! If that doesn't impress the jaded, I don't know what will. So when you go shopping this week, throw in some Newman's salad dressing in his honor!
For the record, Mark Lamos hasn't just "directed a couple plays" - he's won three Tonys and had 5 plays go to Broadway from Hartford. Perez - you make him sound like he;s directing sock puppet shows in my basement!
Not just a legend ,but a great guy.
He and Joanne are always friendly ,and chatty when you see them around.
Just lovely people.
Re: oldfart – Let me know when YOU get there! It's easy to say when you're young & healthy but wait till the years pile on, you'll be begging for just a few more. By the way, I like this site & I'm 66!
ok-only the 2nd time I've ever posted on here, but Paul is totally worth it!! I absolutely adore him, he's my favorite 'golden meets new/hip' hollywood actor, and a class act as well.
I'm sitting here looking at my mousepad, which happens to be a full photo of Mr. Newman at his steely eyed, chiseled face best (a gift from my hubby on my birthday).
Probably TMI, but I HAD to give a small shout out to one of Hollwood's greats and let all the yunguns out there know that there's still some class in entertainement.
GET WELL PAUL!!!!
a great guy, back in the days and now. i too hope he gets well soon.
I had the chance to meet him at the Michigan grand prix in '00. He wasn't a very pleasant guy, as a matter of fact when a guy asked him for his autograph he told him to "fuck off". Maybe raising hundreds of millions of dollars for charities gives you the right to be rude.
Still a big fan get well, and god bless.
I remember Mark Lamos back in the days when he was Artistic Director with the Hartford Stage Company. He came to speak with our drama class in HS back in 1990. Get well, Paul.
YOU PUNK ASS LEVA DONT TALK SHIT ABOUT NEWMAN,HIS THE SHIT!!! PAUL,I LOVE YOU,GET BETTER SOON!!!
My neighbors up the road draw the Newmans own labels and my dad would bartend at their party's and over the years it has looked like mr. newman hasn't been getting any better. My cousins in westport have also seen him over the years and have said the same thing.
Horrible. I hope Paul gets better! He's a fabulous actor!
"What's Bolivia?"
"It's a country, stupid. In South America, or Central America…"
-Robert Redford and Paul as Sundance and Butch, "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"
Paul Newman is the greatest! Much love and best wishes to Paul and his family! Feel better soon! Hey, I am eating your popcorn right now! Love ya!
I heard it's lung cancer…very sad
I love Paul Newman! What a class act.
