Good to see he's doing better.
In a new video made by Sen. Edward Kennedy, the recovering politician says it's "good to be home" in Cape Cod.
He continues by acknowledging the "incredible amounts of wonderful notes and letters from friends and colleagues in the Senate, as well as from people here in outpouring of support," which were very uplifting he said.
On Wednesday, President George Bush said, "All of us are so pleased that Senator Kennedy has gone home, and our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family."
Kennedy has currently been spending some well deserved time with his wife Victoria, sailing around Nantucket Sound.
He was expected to deliver a commencement address this Sunday at Wesleyan University in Connecticut.
A statement from his office said, "Senator Kennedy accepted knowing it would be an historic opportunity for the school and all those attending, including his daughter Caroline Raclin who is graduating and his son Ted Jr. who is attending his reunion."
Instead, Presidential hopeful Barack Obama, whom Kennedy is supporting, will be filling in for the senator.
Obama released a statement saying "Considering what he's done for me and for our country, there's nothing I wouldn't do for him."

Just like her parents and family had to do after being denied her in their lives for the last 39 years. Accidents do happen and it can be hard to forgive. If is was you who had done the same thing or one of your family members, I'd think you would want forgiveness also.

Kennedy did none of that…he was more worried about covering his married ass, so for NINE hours, he did nothing but try to cover up his involvement….and because of this, a woman died. Cover up, cover up, cover up….there is no forgiveness in my opinion for a coward who has never owned up to his causing a woman to die. Mary Joe did not die from going into that pond, she was alive for almost two hours struggling in an air pocket to remain alive. The responders found the car and body in about 30 minutes…she could have lived…address that issue…the only one that matters as far as I am concerned.

The Chappaquiddick incident refers to the circumstances surrounding the 1969 death of Mary Jo Kopechne, a former staff member in Senator Robert F. Kennedy's 1968 presidential campaign. Edward Kennedy was driving a car with Kopechne as his passenger when the Senator drove off Dike Bridge into the channel between Chappaquiddick Island and Martha's Vineyard. The Senator swam to safety, but Kopechne died in the car. Kennedy left the scene and did not call authorities until after Kopechne's body was discovered the following day. He pled guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and was sentenced to two months in jail, suspended.
In January of 1970, an inquest into Kopechne's death took place in Edgartown. At the request of Kennedy's lawyers, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ordered the inquest be conducted in secret.[11][12] Judge James A. Boyle presided over the inquest. His conclusions were as follows:
"Kopechne and Kennedy did not intend to return to Edgartown" at the time they left the party.
"Kennedy did not intend to drive to the ferry slip".
"[Kennedy]'s turn onto Dike Road was intentional".
Judge Boyle also said that "negligent driving appears to have contributed to the death of Mary Jo Kopechne".[12]
Under Massachusetts law Boyle could have ordered Kennedy's arrest, but he chose not to do so.[12] District Attorney Dinis chose not to pursue Kennedy for manslaughter, despite Judge Boyle's conclusions.(wikipedia.org)
It's outrageous to me that people are willing to justify murder and the subsequent covering up of crimes as an "accident" or "mistake" that occurred in youth. The correct term we're looking for is not "accident", the word is murder. Driving drunk and having an accident is a horrible, irresponsible mistake. Leaving your passenger to die, not reporting it to the authorities is criminal. It's murder. Ted said NOTHING about what happened until the cops were fishing out the car THE NEXT DAY and he knew the jig was up. And to top it off, he spent NO TIME in jail. Simply outrageous.
What about him "helping" out his nephew when his nephew raped a girl. And by help I mean hampering the investigation and painting the victim a whore. Sick and wrong. Ted's spent his drunken life trying to weasel out of doing time for his criminal behavior. Any one of us without those family ties and money would be rotting in jail.
Ted Kennedy is not a good person and should be reviled for the murdering coward he is, not looked up to as some sort of hero. If that is a hero in this country, no wonder we're in such sorry shape. Somehow I have a feeling if this were all happening to a Republican, Perez would not have so much sympathy. First-degree murder is ordinarily defined as an unlawful killing that is both willful and premeditated, committed after planning or "lying in wait" for the victim.

Kennedy was convicted of "leaving the scene of an accident". ACCIDENT being the operative word here. Apparently the authorities did not have enough evidence to even charge him with involuntary manslaughter.
Since he and Mary Jo were the only ones there and Kennedy claimed that he dove down many times to save Ms. Kopechne, none of you can claim that he willfully murdered Ms. Kopechne.

To me, we're splitting hairs now and the outcome was the same, Mary Jo died and her death was 100% preventable. It started as an accident, drunk driving your car over a bridge. It turned into a murder, sorry manslaughter, when he failed to notify the authorities IMMEDIATELY.

However, they just didn't have enough hard evidence to make anything like that stick. The Tale of Teddy part I
Once upon a time there was a rich 37 year old US senator named Teddy. He had a beautiful wife who loved him very much, but Teddy was a naughty boy. He liked to drink whiskey and play with other women. Teddy also liked to drive fast after drinking lots of whiskey.
Teddy liked Mary Jo. One night after drinking a fifth of whiskey, Teddy asked Mary Jo to go for a ride in Teddy's Oldsmobile. Mary Jo got in the car and wheee! down the road Teddy raced.
Soon they came upon a bridge. Teddy told Mary Jo to hang on while he floored it. Then something bad happened. Teddy's car plunged into the dark river.
Teddy managed to get out of the car and slowly and steadily swam to shore. Those swimming lessons really paid off!
Mary Jo cried out "Help!" but Teddy didn't hear her as he ran home. Teddy's Oldsmobile sank to the bottom of the river and there Mary Jo died. She lived for a while down there in the murky water, trapped in the Oldsmobile. Mary Jo's body was found pressed up in the car in the spot where an air bubble would have formed. Some say she probably lived for up to 2 hours before she perished.

Teddy made it to his hotel alive, got into bed and passed out.
When Teddy came to, he told his friends what had happened. He was afraid that he might be fired from the senate or go to jail. He was mostly afraid that people would wonder why he was in his car late at night with Mary Jo and not his wife. They also might wonder why he drank lots of whiskey, drove his Oldsmobile and left Mary Jo in the car to die.
His friends told him not to worry they would make this bad thing go away. Teddy's rich dad always paid people to make bad things go away. Teddy could do the same. All of a suden Teddy and his friends saw the police driving to the bridge. Oh no! The accident had been discovered! Teddy told the police of the bad thing he had done. They told him not to worry. They would make this bad thing go away just like they had done for his dad. They were afraid of Teddy and his dad. Teddy's family could get them fired and put them in jail because Teddy's were more rich and important than Mary Jo and her family.
Teddy and his friends decided that he should wear a neck brace and try to look really sad when he was in public. He also gave Mary Jo's parents a little cash so they wouldn't sue him.
The Tale of Teddy part III
A few days later Teddy didn't feel bad anymore and he raised taxes. He continued to drink whiskey and play with women. Teddy's wife finally divorced him. Teddy got a new wife, but he was still naughty. He loved whiskey and women.
Some bad people said Teddy should not be a US senator. Teddy's friends told people that life wasn't fair for Teddy. Teddy's brothers and sister had died tragically so those bad people needed to lighten up. His goodlooking big brother John had been president of the US. His goodlooking big brother Robert had been Attorney General and a US senator. John and Robert were both murdered and people should feel sorry for Teddy. Teddy had a get out of jail free card that would never expire!
Teddy's friends told him to frequently remind everyone of his dead brothers. It worked! Many people stopped talking about Mary Jo! Oh happy day! Teddy went back to raising taxes and making life easier for criminals. He also kept drinking whiskey and playing with women! He even taught his son and nephews to do the same!
The Tale of Teddy part IV
One day, many years later, when Teddy was 76 Teddy passed out even though he wasn't drunk. Oh no! Teddy was sick with brain cancer! Mary Jo would have been 68, but she wasn't important like Teddy was so many people didn't care.
Some bad people even brought up the story of Mary Jo, but were called names. Again Teddy's friends reminded everyone of Teddy's dead brothers. They also said Teddy was too young to understand right from wrong when he swam off and left Mary Jo to die. Many fools believed that Teddy was 19 at the time even though he was 37. His friends hoped that most people were too lazy to look up the real facts about Teddy on Google. The luck of the Irish was on Teddy's side again! Most people were too lazy to check it out! It also helped to remind people that a few more of Teddy's family members had died in recent accidents. People needed to feel extra sorry for Teddy.
Teddy spent his last days sailing around Nantucket Sound and enjoying family, unlike Mary Jo.
All of Teddy's family and friends called him and visited. It was so wonderful seeing everyone because they all got to say good bye to Teddy in person unlike Mary Jo's friends and family. Teddy was even given lots of narcotics to ease his pain so he could die quickly and painlessly, unlike Mary Jo.

Please do not refer to the death of Mary Jo as an "accident". The women was left to die in a submerged car. Had this idiot called police at any time in the hours following the crash she would be alive. She was breathing in an air pocket in the car for up to 2 hours.
