THIS IS NOT A GOOD CHARITY! IT IS A SLAVE LABOR COMPANY! There is no quaility or human rights control with this group. They don't care who makes the rugs, be it a 88 year old woman or a 6 year old child. MOST OF THE MONEY ENDS UP IN THE "CHARITIES" ACCONT, NOT THE POOR! Notice that they are a "Not for Profit" Group which is NOT the same as a "Non-Profit" group. This group is a sham.

Dear Fat Perez, How much kickback are you getting from these guys? I bet they aren't even a real charity. In fact, charitynavigator has never even heard of them (NOT A GOOD SIGN!). Stupid fake gay.

I purchased a beautiful rug from this organization about a year ago. I know there are a lot of organizations that do not do what they say they do. However, Arzu is not one of them. First of all, Arzu is a 501(c)(3) not-for profit organization. Just for your information, that is the same as a non-profit organization. Second, with each rug you actually get the story and photo of the weaver who wove that particular rug. Arzu keeps all the records on their weavers, so you know you are really getting a rug created by the weaver you are reading about. Finally, Arzu does not promote any type of child labor or slave labor. If you know anything about Afghan Cultural, you would know that rug weaving is a centuries old tradition. These people have been weaving their entire lives and cannot work outside of their homes. Therefore, without Arzu they might not have any way to make a living. The money Arzu pays them helps them to take care of their families. Plus, Arzu is sending these weavers and their families to school and providing them with health care. They are also helping to build clean water systems, bathhouses and other projects to help rebuild entire communities. Arzu rugs are really unique, high quality pieces of Arzt. Each is unique and worth every penny. Don't listen to these people who don't know what they are talking about. Arzu is the real thing!

I'm a little skeptical of money going to afghanistan for a reason. Sorry I keep my money home for our people first!!!! they lived that way forever they were raised to deal with it.

Re: LeilaRe: Leila – they lived that way forever, leila? really? have you ever read a book on afghanistan's history? if you have, which i'm certainly sure is not true because you probably don't even know how to read, you would know that the country went through a war in the mid-70's that basically runied its government and land. that is not FOREVER. that was only 40 years ago. and if you lived in a land-locked country with no government, politics, economics, for the past 40 years while militants and terrorists planted cells in your neighborhoods, you would be in desperate need like the women helped by this charity. go ahead and keep your money for people at home, as if you give to charity anyway. people like you do not exist anymore.

Arzu is a exemplary organization that helps empower women and provides families opportunties to succeed in a country that has been devastated by violence and suppression.

Take a look at Arzu's Modern Collection. These rugs are very cool. They have had a lot of famous people design rugs that are then made by the weavers in Afghanistan. The concept is amazing and the rugs are really nice.

Re: faker – Um, according to CharityNavigator.org the fact that Arzu is not on their site, does not mean that it is not a valid organization. Rather, as quoted on the site

"It simply means that our program team hasn't been able to analyze them yet….You may know that there are now approximately 1 million charities in this country. We evaluate a lot of them, but there are many still to do."

Thanks for posting a worthwhile story, Perez. I'm sad that there aren't more comments on this. Oh, and to that dumbass Leila, no, they have not been living like that forever. Many people had to leave the country and now it's in ruins due to the invasions by the Russians and the rule of the Taliban. So, yes, they need help.

People like you, Leila, or the ones that money should be withheld from.

I've been an interior designer in Beverly Hills for over a decade and have seen many purveyors of rugs from all over the world. I am very familiar with that business and have been quite impressed with the Arzu organization. It was founded by an extremely successful Wall Street businesswoman who, after 9/11 retired so that she could do good works such as this. Before calling a company that legitimately and peacefully helps the US to fight the Taliban by empowering women a "sham", one read past its tax classification. alexandrabeverlyhills.com

the oldest trick in the book. sell the rug for five grand and give the poor a nickle of it, and then a dime to perez.

perez: do not endorse these causes; do not treat your readers as if they are as dumb as you.
scam, scam scam: and what are your proceeds for running this expensively produced web-ad for the poor?

Re: LaNon – LaNon-Your comments sound so stupid. If you don't have evidence to back up your claim, that Arzu does not give much back to the weavers, then you really should keep your mouth shut. From what I have read about Arzu, they give a lot back to the women and their families. Maybe you should actually read about the organization before you blurt out nonsense claims that are not true. I think this is a great organization and everyone who can afford it should buy a rug.

The extreme living conditions in Afghanistan today are largely due to Western political manipulation. Leila is originally an Arabic name.
