Well, there's more to take into account!
Looks like O's Emmy nominations were on the decline this year, too.
Oprah nabbed three nominations — all technical noms (lighting, sound, video control).
Ellen, on the other hand, received eight noms, including nominations for Best Talk Show Host and Outstanding Talk Show.
Ellen is the new queen of chat!

I actually think it has more to do with her weight than anything else. Her ratings have always gone down when she gains weight. Everyone knows about her struggle with weight and its hard to watch when she fails in the battle. Oprah's decline is about way more than just her Obama endorsement. It's because her show has gotten boring! It's become about the rich middle to upper class, only.
She does nothing else but incredibly indulgent shows about self-improvement - clearing clutter from your McMansion, change your life with The Secret, getting a makeover to look 10 years younger with expensive designer clothing, smart investing, etc. Even her celebrity choices for interviews are boring.
Oh, and let's not forget the Favorite Things episodes where people faint all over themselves to get a bunch of really, really expensive stuff that most people can't come close to affording. Remember when she did the one for the Katrina volunteers in the audience? What about the victims? They don't have HOMES for God's sake, yet Oprah decides to give the volunteers (many of whom were victims themselves) a diamond watch and Burberry coat. And they have to pay around 40% taxes on all of the "gifts" they get!?! That's practical and sensitive, WTG Oprah.
There's nothing necessarily WRONG with any of it, but it alienates the average person living payday to payday, and there's only so much you can watch without it becoming boring and repetitive.

My 14 yr old and 8 yr old daughters watch ellen with me in the afternoon. It is fun and entertaining like old variety shows used to be. Oprah got increasingly uncomfortable and hard to watch. Ellen is hilarious and fun. We love how she never lets anyone lose, even if they lose they get a prize. She is great.
