Kristen Dunst is still speaking up about her time spent in rehab.
The unkempt actress spent some time a few months ago at the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center, a Lohan favorite, in Utah.
However, she has adamantly denied it was for drug or alcohol abuse.
Dunst says, "I didn't go to Cirque Lodge for alcohol abuse or drug abuse. I went there for depression. I was struggling, and I had the opportunity to go somewhere and take care of myself."
Riiiiiight.
According to Star Magazine, though, the Cirque Lodge usually doesn't treat patients suffering from just depression - only if they also have some type of chemical dependency.
A sources says, "They would refer you somewhere else if it's just depression."
Wonder who to believe!
Our bet is that Dunst was probably there for something more than depression.

Drugs cause depression. Even marijuana does have that affect. And we KNOW she's been smoking pot. Just like Britney did before she want all apeshit. A LOT of people turn to drugs and alcohol for untreated depression. MANY people who go to rehab come out saying the same thing because they have not yet "become full blown addicts/alcoholics" or they are in denial that they are.

I apologize to bring up other gossip blogs but another I'll leave nameless pointed out, "You go to the bar when you're depressed and get drunk, and if you're really depressed you're always at the bar which means you're always drunk, and will eventually need rehab. See how that works?" I think that sums it up nicely.

Depression is often a comorbid mental disorder. She could be telling the truth, she could have had depression AND substance dependency. However, you can't tell which one came first or if one produced the other disease.

I don't see why this is so hard to believe. Depression, bipolar disorder, etc, they all carry a stigma STILL. It just seems like when someone in Hollywood had a drug problem, all is forgiven- but when someone has depression they're a nutjob.
Which is really upsetting, but I would assume she'd know that- and wouldn't make that up. Hell if she wanted to get away from the drug/alcohol abuse rumor- couldn't she get away with the good ol' "exhaustion" excuse? instead of depression? come on now.

My son went to a traditional rehab center for his depression. Often times they WILL take depression cases because they work on depression secondary to drug/alchohol/sex/video game addictions. Either way - why crucify the girl - if she has either problem I COMMEND her for recognizing that she needs some assistance and tools to improve her life. I BELIEVE SHE WAS DEPRESSED.

It's true. I went to the rehab across the street from Cirque in Orem, and I used to attend Cocaine Anonymous meetings at Cirque, and it's definitely a chemical dependency treatment center. Kirsten is totally lying.

Sorry perez, I have to agree with some of the people here. She used to have a career and just went downhill. Everybody has had those moments in their life. Just not a Hollywood one…with money and a movie career. Cirque Lodge DOES do a treatment programme for depression - I've been on it, twice.
In this day and age it's actually harder and more embarassing to admit to having depression than to admit to substance abuse. Cut her some slack.
being alcoholic usually come from depression so it all fits together, she's not lying - her main problem is obviously depression which is probably why she drank her sorrows away at times. So going there would have been to deal with her depression and how 'not to' turn to alcohol
The claim seems fishy to me. If she was only suffering from depression, why not just go to a shrink or hire one to come to her house if she doesn't want to be seen going to their office. It doesn't make sense to go away to a "treatment facility" just for depression. I'm not really buying this story.
Most rehab centers have a program for what they call "dual-diagnosis"…aka substance abuse and depression. Most people in the depths of substance abuse are have an underlying depression and many people with depression use substances to self-medicate. She was most likely there for both…and good for her for getting help.

When Heath Ledger was in London working on the Terry Gilliam Movie and even earlier, there were some pictures of him with Kirsten and another girl, a friend of hers. They were sitting on the grass at a park in the daytime, just hanging out, talking. They were all smiling and looked relaxed, happy and really into their conversation. Kirsten checked into rehab just weeks after Heath died. So did Eva Mendes and a couple of others. Joaquin Phoenix, who was a very close friend of Heath's sort of "disappeared" from public view for a while, too. I think Heath's deaht had one hell of an impact on a lot of people. If so, then at least some small good came from a terrible tragedy.

True, depression is not a joke. But neither is it an addiction. Visit Cirque's website. They are quite clear about the nature of their treatments, which are all explicitely catered towards drug and alcohol addiction.
