What's in a scarf????
Well, Rachel Ray wore a scarf in a Dunkin' Donuts commercial that threw the conservatives into a tizzy, according to reports.
Ray wore a scarf that looks like a keffiyeh, a traditional headdress worn by Arab men (see photo above).
Fox News talking head and columnist Michelle Malkin explained, "The keffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad. Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant and not-so-ignorant fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons."
Dunkin' Donuts at first dismissed the complaints, claiming the black-and-white wrap was not a keffiyeh.
But, the right-wing firestorm continued on the internets and by yesterday, Dunkin' Donuts decided it was easier to yank the ad.
Dunkin' Donuts said in a statement, "In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial."

Those scarves have been really fashionable in the UK and Europe for a while now and there has been no controversy whatsoever. If you have a look at any UK clothes websites you'll notice them (topman.co.uk).
I think people have too much freaking time on their hands if they complain about her scarf…Just looks like a plain old scarf to me…granted not a very attractive scarf, but nothing more than a scarf.

I have one of those scarves and I knew what they represented. Has anyone been to New York lately? Its the new accessory. I've been seeing people wear these for almost two years and finally got a red and white one (which is the typical color of these type of scarves) from New York. Well anyways I did have someone stop me in a bar once and said it gave him flash back from being in Iraq. These scarves are a double edge sword that represents what is going on in the world. Fashion has always been a reflection of real life. I still rock my scarf but I have respect for the troops that risk their lives to the war.

It sucks that they had to pull the ad, but I can certainly understand the reason. It's probably best that the ad is no longer on tv so that no negative sentiments arise.
