Sex & The City's Big Eff Up!

| Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueSex & The City

sjpeepeeeeeee.jpg

We've received quite a few emails from several PerezHilton.com readers who've been lucky enough to see the new Sex and the City movie.

They've all said the same thing — that boom mics litter a few of the movie's scenes!

WTF????

How could they let this happen????

Why wouldn't they fix such an obvious gaff in post-production???

In a scene where Carrie and Big discuss their wedding vows, a microphone is seen hanging down at the top of the screen the entire time!

We're sure SATC was given a huge production budget…so, why weren't the microphones 'erased' during the editing process?

Did they blow the editing money on wardrobe?????

In addition to counting the number of cute shoes Carrie wears, we're going to be looking out for stray mics when we watch the flick this weekend!

    303

If the screen is the wrong dimensions you will see the boom mics. I bet these people saying they saw the booms didn't watch the movie in a normal theatre.

    ewweeee, she looks OLD

  5. capri says – reply to this

    305

that happens in a lot of movies, if the screen isn't fitted, it takes 30 seconds to fix in each theater

Did anyone else notice that her hair goes from blonde… to dark, to exactly how it was at the beginning, roots and everything!

  7. 307

Well SJP did wear 98 different outfits throughout the whole thing!! lol

Speaking of "gaffes" you misspelled "gaffe." I mean, seriously. You should be mildly embarrassed.

You would think that at this point SJPP would get that fucking thing scraped off of her chin! It is hideous! She looks like a witch.

  13. brian says – reply to this

    313

perez… u obviously have never been to a movie premere outside of LA or New York… its pretty common for early copies not to have the mic edited out of it… its unfortunate, but it happens

  14. karine says – reply to this

    314

EW! She looks like a witch with that big wart-thingy on her chin! She should get that removed.

    319

    hey perez,
just got home from a midnight showing here in SoFla and the microphones where EVERYWHERE! I would say about 60% of the movie… no joke. I have seen 100s of movies and I have never seen a movie with this kind of problem, not even a crappy movie with a low budget. I don't get how SJP would be okay with it! it was extremely distracting and took away from the movie. However, i still enjoyed the movie, but they better fix it for the DVD!!!!
Cannot wait to hear what you think!

  20. ego says – reply to this

    320

i just got back from the showings. The boom mics were EVERYWHERE.
at one point you can even see the production lights!

  21. Agnes says – reply to this

    321

and Carries phone is ducktaped, can you imagine this???
Big's pants in one of the scenes are way to short, otherwise great great movie . I loved it

    322

i just got back from seeing the movie and the sound mics totally effed the entire experience. SATC should have been an awesome movie and instead I was focusing on the black mics hanging in more than 20 scenes :(

I guess my great sexpectations were too high

  23. sam says – reply to this

    323

it's not just a little mic. it's HUGE. the audience was laughing over it. and it's not quick…. it's there for a good 30 seconds

  24. M says – reply to this

    324

Ummmm.. DUH! A lot of times in the sneak previews there are scenes that are still in rough cut, and so the mic's can still be seen. If it is like this in the theaters today with the official opening, then yes, they did screw up, but until then….. Be happy you were able to see it early!

  25. Jean9 says – reply to this

    325

OMG i didnt even noticed and i tried looking for it…
the movie was amazing I LOVED IT!
5 stars…who ever gave it a bad review has their head up their ass..

    =D

  26. ashley says – reply to this

    326

OMG I just saw a midnight showing and the microphones show in about 5 or 6 scenes, to the point where they are almost hitting the actors' heads……how the F**K does an editor not notice that?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  27. cindy says – reply to this

    327

Ont hing I did notice is that Miranda and Steve's bed from the TV show is now in Charloette and Harrys bedroom and vice versa. Still fabulous to watch SATC again!

  30. Tracy says – reply to this

    330

This was SO disappointing and very distracting, The entire time when you're seeing all the mics and stuff I thought this has got to be a joke right, they're going to come out and end up that they're filming a film within the film or this is a tacky dream scene or something, but no it was just a VERY VERY disappointing and tacky error which took a lot away from what should of and could have been a great movie!

  31. ILUVNY says – reply to this

    331

I saw the midnight showing and there were mics ever where in one scene you could see the entire arm of the microphone, you could not overlook it. every time they would pop up, the audience would start whispering or grumbling. it ruined the film, I would wait till someone fixes it before I would suggest seeing the film. This was the first showing of the real cut film & not an early edition, It was in a very large theater and NOT the projectionist fault

  32. may says – reply to this

Re: Megan – are you talking about her hair color? how it turns back to the dirty blonde towards the end?
because Carrie distinctly says, something like… she has a new appartment and is back to her old self including her hair & presonality!

  35. may says – reply to this

    335

Re: Bahama9 – Carries hair olor is supposed to change. the movie is cast over a year, would your hair color change if you dyed it brown? then left itto turn back to its original state… probaby!!!! Carrie even says at the end… i was back to my old self again, and one of the things she is refferring to is her hair colour was black to a dirty blonde

  36. Caroli says – reply to this

    336

There were boom mics EVERYWHERE. It was so distracting. I LOVED SATC on HBO, but the movie was a real disappointment.

OMG I saw it last night and they were sooo distracting!! How unprofessional! I actually thought our local cinema had received a dud copy of the film…..really liked it though - when I could see what was going on! Oh and Carrie was sooo stupid for going back AGAIN!!!

You numpty - this was a cardboard cut out of Ted Danson's character. It was supposed to be some kind of promotional material as his character was an actor. Have another look - you'll see.

I saw the movie at 12:01am and it was the perfect ending to the series! It was a true session finale filled with ups and downs, a big dick, and a lot of laughs. The only thing that I wish was that the theatre would have stopped all those girls from coming into the show with their Payless imitations of Manolo Blahniks! That was hard on the eyes, hurt my soul or at least their soles!

    348

this is true of many episodes in the tv series. it's almost like they do it on purpose.

  49. Peacoc says – reply to this

    349

It is a digital projection "problem", not the filmmaking. I guarantee that the editors watched the print on film, and it looked good (due to title safe areas), then it was transfered to digital for the new digital projectors which display ALL the viewable area (no title safe area). The theaters that still use film will not have this problem. Welcome to the death of movie theaters.

  50. JT says – reply to this

    350

So I went to the midnight showing last night, and I know it wasn't the films fault at all, it was the people who set the picture in the frame at the movie. The movie was good minus the mics, it was sort of comical to see the mics move around when they were talking, even though it totally distracted from the movie. Anyways the movie was good, and dont judge it based on the boom mics showing, because chances are its the theaters fault.

  51. Linx0r says – reply to this

OMG the movie was so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    353

I loved the movie. I have been a fan ever since I was younger. I watch all the ON-DEMAND episodes every month. I have the book and the trivia game. LOL. Im obsessed with it all. I didnt think the movie deserved all the negative feedback it got from the critics and viewers. It seems like everyone who waited this long to see the movie was let down because they for some reason thought it was going to be even bigger and better then all the episodes of all the seasons. It was the perfect ending to the series. I loved it and advise anyone and everyone to go to see it and take it for what its worth and not what went wrong with it.

  54. perezi says – reply to this

    354

definitely saw it and there were no mics in any scenes….the mics were clearly in the rough cuts only

  55. JNE111 says – reply to this

    355

Ok, so it's the projectionist, not the movie…Question: why are we all seeing the same "screw up" in the same scene in so many theaters around the country?

  56. JNE111 says – reply to this

    356

    Re: perezi
Nope, saw it in the theater - if that's not final cut then where does one see the final cut?

  57. cionna says – reply to this

    357

    okay wow

  58. 358

i completely agree… how the hell did they let the microphone issue happen? they spent millions of dollars making this movie and its like they let some kid from the local high school do their editing. also, cynthia nixon said that a character would die in the movie… uh… nope.

  59. Bekahi says – reply to this

    359

Yeah, saw the movie last night, did NOT see the boom mics….thats because there was obviously a good projectionist that framed it right. I did though in one of the scenes in the apartment when it was dark, see a reflection of one in one of the windows, but that was it, and it was only for a second. Loved this movie though!

  60. Meliss says – reply to this

    360

Just saw the movie and the boom was in 60 percent of the time it seemed. I even had projectionist try to fix earlier with a perf issue. Movie was good but how could this happen. Sarah why?

  61. Amber says – reply to this

    361

Yes, I saw the midnight viewing of the show and there are mic in a lot of shots. It was so bad that everybody in the theater thought it was some kind joke. It was like I was watching a bootleg copy of the movie instead of the actual thing.

  62. elizab says – reply to this

    362

it's not really a spolier…that's one of the first scenes in the movie. it's sort of what the entire plot is based on.

  63. lola says – reply to this

    363

yeah i saw the midnight showing too, and the screen was all messed up too during the scenes where they left the mics in so you could only see like half the screen, it was so shitty that they didn't fix that

  64. Sex Ma says – reply to this

    364

Saw the movie on opening day at the first showing…it started off great all the women in the audience cheered, then tears for the big plot and then BOOOM MIC!!!!! Tons and Tons of BOOM MICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!WTF!!!! Funny movie filled with plenty of legendary moments…..But who the hell let this edit of the movie out? The BOOM MICS were so distracting I thought it was sad!!!!!!!!!!

  65. Courtn says – reply to this

    365

I saw the movie last night and loved it! However, I noticed the microphones thoughout the entire movie and was a little distracted.

  68. STEPHa says – reply to this

    368

boom mics EVERYWHERE in the midnight showing. EVERYYYWHERRRRREEE. it was so freaking annoying.

  69. Micah says – reply to this

    369

Perez.. I couldn't believe it…. I mean the Mics where everywhere.. in very important parts.. that people in the movie theatre were talking and laughing and missing intimate moments…

I was very very disappointed in this movie.. I love this show.. I love all of it.. but man.. with a budget that big…. they could have done much much better with the Mics..

and I don't mean I saw a mix like 2 times by mistake.. I mean they were hoovering over their heads…. and in the scenes for very very long time… also some scenes showed them from the neck up..

I couldn't believe it.. it actually ruined the whole mood of the movie… I know I should focus on the story.. but guys… see how many mics you can count.. I bet you can count at least 15 throughout the entire movie..

I was stunned…. everyone will defend them and say give them a break.. no.. when you have that budget.. and you hype this show up as much… we expect the best… anything less just isn't FABULOUS!

  70. Jen says – reply to this

    370

    Re: chadii
    EXACTLY.
Perez should do his homework before making such an obnoxious post.

  71. Micah says – reply to this

    371

    Re: perezi

You wrong on this one.. I saw this today and 1:00 in Shreveport Louisiana.. So apparenetly the "rough cut" made it all the way here.. I think not…

It wasn't the theatre.. it was the movie…

  72. Angeli says – reply to this

    372

So after reading a few websites and all these comments I get that it was the projectionist's fault. BUT how did so many theatres screw up the alignment country wide?? That is the only thing that totally baffles me. If so many people seeing the boom mic throughout the film is a coincidence, then that is one HUGE EFFING coincidence. I hope I can see it again without a stupid mic hanging down like an annoying turd the whole movie, because it was truly an awsome movie. Also, I read that someone thought her hair being blonde again at the end was a mistake, it wasn't, she mentions that she is "back to her old self again" including her hair.

  73. Domini says – reply to this

    373

I hope they didn't think any one would notice! Talk about DUMB ASSES! Lmfao

  74. Megan says – reply to this

    374

A FEW of the scenes!?!? It was in EVERY. SINGLE. SCENE. IN. THE. MOVIE.
And yes, I guess now I understand that it is the theatre's fault somehow…? But oh my god, literally every scene. I am not exaggerating. I hope it was not like that in the premiere, because if I was one of the actresses and everyone in the theatre I was in was laughing at the ridiculousness, I would not be happy. Here's hoping it is the theater and not the film!
    Otherwise, loved the movie!!!!

    377

Why the eff are so many people commenting on Carrie's hair color??? MONTHS HAVE GOBE BY and that is why her hair is lighter by the end…. really, does anyone pay attention? She even says something about it, how her hair was "back to its regular self" or something along those lines.

  78. Micah says – reply to this

    378

Re: Megan – Guys.. production companies send out a Standard Format…. they wouldn't leave room for Human Error at the box office in that sense… I mean this was the wrong cut of the movie sent out… Someone on the SATC staff just lost his job and future jobs…Geez… I mean

it ruined it.. I was no longer in the movie enjoying it… I was watching it from the outside with a different perspective… it completely ruined my train of thought..

Also.. I should would like to be the company that will transport the New Versions to the theatres once the producers realize that his happened! Think of how much money they are going to make! LOL

  79. MG says – reply to this

    379

Hahaha, the one I saw today was soooo bad. The movie was great, loved it, but the mics were literally hanging in every single scene after the scene where Big and Carrie are talking in the kitchen. Literally every scene, whether they were outside or inside. It was crazy! Most of the time, it was just the tip of a mic bobbing around, but several times it was the whole rod!!!
Stupid effing projectionist, I'm calling the theater :P
    GREAT MOVIE THOUGH!!

  80. Rachae says – reply to this

    380

omg i just saw the movie and it was great but the microphones were EVERYWHERE!!! i noticed them in at least 3 of 4 scenes. how could they not have noticed that!!!???

  83. Danni says – reply to this

    383

Not only a few scenes where the boom mics were shown it was like the ENTIRE movie. Like seriously now. For such a highly touted movie thats BS. and the comment about it being the theaters fault…really every theater effed it up? I doubt it.

  84. Lilone says – reply to this

    384

This movie abso-f*cking-lutely fantastic! Not mic problems.

  85. N says – reply to this

    386

I just saw the movie and other than the boom in EVERY scene it was great even though the bozos in the booth knocked the film off center and took 20 mins to fix ,but how is it possible that all acrss the us the people in the booths are all idiots?

  87. babii says – reply to this

    387

The mike is in more than a few shots! I couldnt believe the first few times, but after that it was almost steady and constant. You could even see the whole arm of the boom in one, I think that was Samanthas place. It was incredibly ridiculous. Worse than a low grade movie.

  90. jeremy says – reply to this

    390

Okay Perez and others, I read this post a few days ago, and I went to see the movie tonight. The scene during the vows… no mics, no booms, no arms, no nothing. I dont know wtf half of you are talking about, but the movie was flawless… a total 10

  91. danid3 says – reply to this

    391

I have to say, I am glad to hear that it was the theaters fault because there were literally boom mics in the majority of the movie when i saw it tonight and it distracted me to no end (not to mention the whole theater laughing when the mics came into the shots). I loved the movie and was looking forward to it for so long and the mics in all of the shots ruined it for me. I was not looking for something to pick at, it was just so obvious! Sometimes you not only saw the mic, but the entire poll as well. It was REALLY hard to miss.

  92. JJ says – reply to this

    392

Went to see it in ATL tonight and saw mics the entire time, it totally distracted from the movie!!

  93. duh says – reply to this

    393

it is not the theaters fault… unless every single theater messed up but, only when showing sex and the city.

    oh and it was shit.

  94. ellie says – reply to this

    394

there are the mics in every fcking scene basically!

  95. Pickly says – reply to this

    395

How can it be the projectionists fault if the same boom mics scene is seen in multiple theaters…unless the same guy works across the country!
I think its probably a running gag or something…or maybe some trick they are playing on us…
hope its not a stupid editing problem…that'd be ultra stupid.

  96. j says – reply to this

    396

Saw it. BOOMS in EVERY scene. ESP. in group shots in mexico. So distracting- but loved loved it! Apparently its the theaters fault in projection?- not post production.
    xo

  97. Mattie says – reply to this

    397

Saw it Last night and while I must say WONDERFUL MOVIE… I totally lost my shit because you guessed it, the mics, I saw them in the wedding vow scene, the hospital, I might have even seen one in the costume store… And while I know it' a projector thing, it seems to be happening to a lot of projectors non? maybe there are soo many mic issues because some of the prints need a lot of frame adjusting between scenes which is something not every film needs…

did anyone have sounds problems during scenes with Jennifer Hudson because the theater? I saw it at seemed to turn her scenes down and back up the moment she was off screen… odd but true…

  98. imajon says – reply to this

    398

Just saw it in Las Vegas. Boom Mics. Very Distracting.

  99. anubis says – reply to this

    399

I thought it might have only been at our movie (I thought it was just the projectionist not adjusting the film to set higher on screen) but yeah it was pretty bad it went on for 10 - 15 minutes thru many many scenes. It was so bad that it was hard to even follow what they were saying, I almost went back and asked for a refund. How are you supposed to suspend belief when you see boom mike thru out the movie? It just kept yanking me out of the film and instead I was just watching actors read lines. And we paid for that? Please skip a few of the Minolo's and spend some of that money on proper cut and editing…

  100. disapp says – reply to this

    400

A FEW scenes? Try like HALF the movie! You could also see the cameramen reflected in the window in the hospital scene. I also saw a cup that said SJParker….I want my money back.
