Mea Culpa

As you (hopefully) already know, earlier this month - on May 12th - a deadly earthquake hit China's southwest Sichuan province.
The tragedy left almost 88,000 people missing or dead, with estimates that nearly 70,000 people were killed.
Then just a week later at the Cannes Film Festival, Sharon Stone said something that has sparked controversy worldwide.
She blamed the Chinese for getting the earthquake, due to their bad karma!
WTF?!?!
Stone said, "I'm not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don't think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And then all this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, is that karma — when you're not nice that the bad things happen to you?"
The remarks have caused uproars in China.
They have already promised to boycott her and her films.
Of course, after the bad press, Stone has apologized for suggesting the earthquake came due to their bad karma. And to try and do good, she's offered to help with the relief efforts and cleanup.
Stone says, "My erroneous words and deeds angered and saddened the Chinese people, and I sincerely apologise for this. I'm willing to participate in any earthquake relief activity and to do my utmost to help Chinese people affected by the disaster."
Some celebrities should just stick to acting and keep quiet when it comes to politics.

Well she is right in a way. Karma always comes back to you. However in light of the several thousand dead or missing, this is a very inconsiderate comment to make when people are suffering. My thoughts go out to the families in China suffering.

well, she does have a point. karma is a bitch and china is pretty horrible when it comes to civil & human rights. i mean, does that mean innocent people should lose their homes and lives? no. but still, i understand where she was coming from. i don't think she meant everyone deserved it but that they should possibly take a look at how they treat people.

I think she is damn right, what happened to the Chinese is the best example of Karma. Now that's what I call the righteous hand of God striking down. I know lots of innocent people and kids died during the earthquakeand I feel sorry for them BUT SO DID DURING THE YEARS AND YEARS OF TERROR the chinese brought upon the Tibetian people. We as American stood Idle and watch the vile things the Chinese had done to us, and their own people. We did nothing! Sharon stated Karma, as just a thought, and the world come crashing on her. the Chinese people and victims are innocent, its the Chinese GOVERNMENT that is doing what they do to Tibet. And no, it's not fair what the government does, but it didn't cause that earthquake and that tragic loss of life of innocence, and mother's burying their only children. I'm more pissed at Sharon Stone for apologizing than for what she said. She should have stood by her right to free speech and refused to apologize or make amends until the Chinese government fixes their massive human rights violations.

I'm on Stone's side about the treatment of Tibetans and the heartbreaking animal cruelty (google China and Animal Cruelty - you will be shocked, even if you only have somewhat of an idea already), but, as a celebrity, that was really dumb to proclaim. Stars have to be super PC - some of my favorite celebs are NOT PC, but that's not the point - Sharron Stone has been in the industry long enough to know better…
Besides, it was really a horrible disaster that I don't wish on anybody.

As a Canadian I think that you Americans get a lot of bad reactions to comments made by public figures. Maybe the next time a person of different origin or religion makes a comment about Americans, you as Americans should boycott there movies and religion.
