As you (hopefully) already know, earlier this month - on May 12th - a deadly earthquake hit China's southwest Sichuan province.
The tragedy left almost 88,000 people missing or dead, with estimates that nearly 70,000 people were killed.
Then just a week later at the Cannes Film Festival, Sharon Stone said something that has sparked controversy worldwide.
She blamed the Chinese for getting the earthquake, due to their bad karma!
WTF?!?!
Stone said, "I'm not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don't think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And then all this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, is that karma — when you're not nice that the bad things happen to you?"
The remarks have caused uproars in China.
They have already promised to boycott her and her films.
Of course, after the bad press, Stone has apologized for suggesting the earthquake came due to their bad karma. And to try and do good, she's offered to help with the relief efforts and cleanup.
Stone says, "My erroneous words and deeds angered and saddened the Chinese people, and I sincerely apologise for this. I'm willing to participate in any earthquake relief activity and to do my utmost to help Chinese people affected by the disaster."
Some celebrities should just stick to acting and keep quiet when it comes to politics.

Well she is right in a way. Karma always comes back to you. However in light of the several thousand dead or missing, this is a very inconsiderate comment to make when people are suffering. My thoughts go out to the families in China suffering.

I know lots of innocent people and kids died during the earthquakeand I feel sorry for them BUT SO DID DURING THE YEARS AND YEARS OF TERROR the chinese brought upon the Tibetian people. the Chinese people and victims are innocent, its the Chinese GOVERNMENT that is doing what they do to Tibet. And no, it's not fair what the government does, but it didn't cause that earthquake and that tragic loss of life of innocence, and mother's burying their only children. I'm on Stone's side about the treatment of Tibetans and the heartbreaking animal cruelty (google China and Animal Cruelty - you will be shocked, even if you only have somewhat of an idea already), but, as a celebrity, that was really dumb to proclaim. Stars have to be super PC - some of my favorite celebs are NOT PC, but that's not the point - Sharron Stone has been in the industry long enough to know better…

I think it was just a really dumb thing for her to let come out of her mouth, but have any of you heard the quote in its entirety? She goes on to say that Tibetans helping the Chinese despite the "bad treatment" caused her to reevaluate her view.

IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH KARMA. This was a natural disaster. Because of its location, China gets hit by earthquakes on a regular basis. This quake proved deadly because of its magnitude and intensity and because it occured in a highly populated area. The Chinese government's policy in Tibet had no bearing on the event. Such a tragedy could still have happened, even if the Chinese had been treating the Tibetans with the utmost kindness.

I said the same thing when I heard about the earthquake. I hate China as a country. They treat their people and animals like shit, torturing and killing them both in heinous ways.
