The New Hobbit Is…?

wenn5101210.jpg

To all of you Lord of the Rings fans, reports are surfacing that the new prequel movie they are working on, The Hobbit, might have found its star.

Said to take the lead role of hobbit Bilbo Baggins is Scottish actor James McAvoy.

The J.R.R. Tolkien novel is hoping to be the next blockbuster big hit and will be directed by Guillermo del Toro.

The film is scheduled to begin filming later this year in New Zealand.

Also returning to the prequel will be Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf.

In regards to choosing the main lead, an inside source says, “A number of names have been doing the rounds, including Daniel Radcliffe and Jack Black, but James [McAvoy] is the one the film's bosses really want. They're expected to have talks soon so hopefully it could be confirmed in the not too distant future."

As for director del Toro, he adds, “I can tell you it's down to a few names that we all agree upon. For our first choice, completely magically we all have the same name."

We’d prefer to have seen Daniel Radcliffe, but we doubt they’d pay him as much as he’d probably ask for.

What do you think about casting James????

      Re: Great

I think they must have thought Jack Black was good because he was short and a little fat.

But Jack is more suited to comedies.

      37

perez, have you even read the hobbit? daniel doesn't fit the role at all! far too young-looking, for one thing–bilbo was a middle-aged hobbit when the story took place! mcavoy doesn't look old, but he could pull it off!
mcavoy actually seems a perfect fit- so i hope you're right!!

      39

Ridiculous. He's MUCH too young for the part, just as Elijah was for Frodo. Both characters are in their 50s in their respective books.

    40. Clara says – reply to this

As a Lord of the Rings fan, I would love to have Ian Holm star as Bilbo Baggins. Seeing as that will not be happening due to Holm' age, the next dilemma of who to cast as the lead is a big step in the entire project. First of all, I'd like to disregard the other so-called candidates for the famous hobbit…Jack Black? Absolutely not. Even as a "serious" character Black is not convincing to me, and he would probably not be the best man for the job. As for Daniel Radcliffe, I believe it would be a terrible choice as well. Although I'm no Hollywood make-up artist, I can't see Harry Potter as Bilbo Baggins. Radcliffe should stick to wizards, no hobbits.

At the present time, I cannot think of another actor that could even be considered for the role of Bilbo. James McAvoy is a fairly talented actor who has proven to his audiences that he can do anything from drama ("The Last King of Scotland") to horrible chick flicks ("Becoming Jane") and romance ("Atonement") to fantasy ("Narnia"). Perhaps the former experience as Mr. Tumnus would help ease his transition from this summer's "Wanted" to "The Hobbit". Make-up is an extraordinary thing, and I guess the only thing I'm worried about is McAvoy's appearance. As a Lord of the Rings fan, I want to see Bilbo as well, Bilbo, not just some modern day actor who happens to have a really good agent. I think McAvoy could pull it off and thus far, he seems to be the best candidate for the part.

James is from a place in Glasgow, Scotland called Drumchapel - the pits of the earth really. How he got himself not only out of that shit heap, but onto the worlds acting stage and A list, is something that we can all only marvel at. Good luck to James, I hope he gets the role, he surely deserves it after the road he has travelled. p.s I'm from Clydebank, a bit better than the Drum!!!
