Steven Tyler's geriatric feet just can't handle his wild stage performances.
The Aerosmith frontman is going through a lot of pain and suffering to get back on his feet, and supposedly it's the feet rehabbin' that drove him to the Dr. Drew treatment center, at least that's what he's said in his latest statement:
The doctors told me the pain in my feet could be corrected but it would require a few surgeries over time. The 'foot repair' pain was intense, greater than I'd anticipated. The months of rehabilitative care and the painful strain of physical therapy were traumatic. I really needed a safe environment to recuperate where I could shut off my phone and get back on my feet. Make no mistake, AEROSMITH has no plans to stop rocking. There's a new album to record, then another tour.

Take it from the oldfart here — look after your feet, they are your only pair and have to last a lifetime! I had an ingrown toenail once which had to be partially cut away, let me tell you the injections to numb the toe were the most painful thing I have ever experienced, if you have ever stubbed a toe then you experienced 1/10th of the pain. I feel for him — all we old farts are paying for years of neglect — to all the young uns don't do as we did! Protect your feet! And yes, chronic foot problems, and foot surgery can lead to pain med addiction. He probably recognized that he was on the slippery slope again and good for him — he sought help.
Actually insiders from his camp have said that he checked in for controlled access to the painkillers post surgery because he's rehabbed. He doesn't want to chance falling off the wagon again when he can just do something like this and prevent it

Kudos to Steven for trying to stay clean - he's well aware of the fact that he'll need medication to help in the recovery process - he came off some heavy shit prior to Permanent Vacation - he knows what he's up against - those demons don't go away easily - I don't care how long you've been clean -Bravo! That's bullshit I think. I was dating this guy whose uncle was recovering from coke addiction and stayed with them for a few months. His feet bothered him often and doctors told him it was related to his drug use.

What's so hard to get about this? He's had substance problems in the past, now he probably needs to take pain meds for his current foot surgery. He can't just have a big bottle of pain meds laying around, so he probably needs to take them in a controlled enviro.

He also seriously injured his right foot back in the drug days when he pretty much tore off the heel of the foot in a motorcycle accident.
Forget heroin, alcohol withdrawal will kill you in a God damn heart beat if you are a heavy enough drinker. I doubt he was in there for heroin. Herion withdrawal is not life threatening, and most people will weather it on their own for several days..Alcohol withdrawal, however, will kill you and most very heavy drinkers need medical supervision to detox from heavy alcohol addiction.

Here's the deal. Steven is being real that there IS a problem. Whether he's been forced to medicate due to surgery (I'm a nurse and even addicts have legitimate pain concerns, you just have to be more careful with their management). OR.. there is a real problem of abuse starting to slip in and he's dealing with it BEFORE it becomes a big ole sloppy issue. I'm proud of him for doing the right thing, NOW. It takes a real man to do that.

Indeed it does. My feelings? He started taking the narcotic pain killers for his feet Under-stabl, and probably got hooked on em again. Once a opiate addict, you always are. I've been there and back. No fun.

If it's true that what you give, you receive back tenfold, I wish Steven Tyler all the energy, love and strength he's given to us over the years - multipled.
"Recuperate in a safe environment" means exactly that. Steven is not being deceitful with this statement; read between the lines. It's not safe to be left alone with the type of meds he probably needs, he's aware of that, and wants to make sure he doesn't get hooked. They're called "controlled substances" for a good reason. His willpower thus far has been admirable, and so is his courage to admit needing help to stay in charge.
I think he's the greatest American rock artist ever. He's shaped modern music in more ways than many people realize, and sacrificed his own osteopathic integrity in the process. Some singers think their job ends at standing in one spot looking cute for the camera. I saw him do backflips down a ramp onto the stage in his late forties. He holds the patent on decadent magnetism and wicked lyrics. He doesn't just slap on guyliner and call it a day. He rocks unforgiving, skin-tight concoctions and looks a helluva lot better in them than any other granddad who comes to mind - and most younger dudes too.

I work for a producer in Vancouver who known him really well and the real story is that he has been told that he must take painkillers as part of his meds for the foot problem. He doesn't want to take them because of his past addiction problems, and so the compromise was that he'd spend some time in a rehab facility so that the meds could be given to him in a safe place in case his mind tells him that its party time!!
