Tori Amos is going indie, y'all.
The musical genius is sending a big "Fuck you" to her evil record and deciding to pursue alternative routes to get her tunes to her fans.
The goddess' manager, John Witherspoon, explains the exciting new development to Billboard magazine.
He says:
"After 22 years of being in the shackles of the major label system, Tori has chosen the path of independence for her next work. As with many of her contemporaries Tori is devising new and exciting ways of getting her music to the masses without the boundaries and limitations of the major music companies."
He continues, "This will commence with a project of new music and visuals which is being started in the summer and due for release in Spring 2009."
Until then, fans of Amos should be on the lookout for the new graphic novel Comic Book Tattoo, based on Amos' work, due in July through Image Comics.

Good for Tori her last 2 record labels have done nothing to promote her. Yet when another artist does "the piano" thing they shove them down your throat (ex: Vanessa Carlton, Fiona Apple, Alicia Keys…….I like all of these people but they were totally force upon us when they first came out)

I LOVE Tori Amos' music and own/have owned nearly all of her albums, but if she was so in chains, she would not have signed with Epic in 2002 after letting her Atlantic deal lapse. She would have gone indie THEN when it wasn't so in vogue. I'm thinking her sales has gone steadily downhill since the mid 1990s and Epic is letting her go. Love Tori, but this is a dumb announcement.

I think that the public is finally realizing that the recording industry is a bunch of bloodsucking leeches, and now that mainstream alternatives are opening up, people are realizing that the emperor's got no clothes and artists can free themselves. Her contract was only for 3 albums. ADP was the 3rd. She didn't extend the contract and instead left - thank gods.
She hasn't made a good album since 1999's To Venus and Back. She is quite awful now, which is a shame. Hopefully her new work will be better than the crap she's been putting out for the last seven years!

finally, she has been wanting her independence for a very long time. she no longer wants her "girls" stolen from her, her girls are her song by the way! tori is a beautiful soul that should never have to answer to anyone.
I liked her in the 90's, and she put on a fabulous show, but she's getting really weird with age. I saw her in a recent interview and she was just way out there. Couldn't understand anything she was saying. She seemed more like an alien than a gifted artist.

Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson and all those no-talent, good-for-nothing barbie dolls) and she was not going to bend down and do something that wasn't her. And if you think her music sucks, you probably have no brain and are probably into trash like Rihanna, Fall Out Boy, and Soulja Boy. Tori's music is amazing, because she speaks out against Bush's administration, the chains of religion, the difficulties women face, uses her voice and actual instruments. I love you, Tori keep doing what you're doing.
