As someone who specializes in singers, real singers, devoted almost the entirety of my 20 year career (now over, I guess) to working with real singers, your posting on Mariah Mania wound me up.

The elephant in the room with Mariah is that she is thought by many (especially the younger generation) as the singer’s singer — and she doesn’t even sing live. Anybody in the industry (and I’ve had this confirmed by her sound engineers and producers) will tell you that when performing "live", she drops in live vocal lines only occasionally and when she feels comfortable. The live vocal parts are interchanged with pre-recorded vocals that differ from the recorded versions. She is, therefore, essentially, a studio singer.

Of course she's lip synching. Here's the evidence:
1. Why do you think there are NO close-ups of her during the whole piece? Because that would show her lip synching far more clearly. So Mimi says, no close-ups, lambs. She's not stupid.
2. The sound quality of the vocals is WAY too good to be live. Given, she's not exactly exerting herself on stage, but the quality is too even, too edited. It's just not raw and real.
3. Please, enough already with the "it's different from the cd/album/studio version therefore it must be live" crap. Jesus, you lot would never make it as lawyers. Let me spell it out, as you clearly can't grasp this on your own: it's different because she recorded another version, which she has then proceeded to lipsynch to.
4. Mariah is a spent force, but can't bring herself to accept this. When was the last time she laid down some truly stunning vocals? So she resorts to getting attention in other ways when her singing won't cut the mustard - she barely wears any clothes, has a quickie marriage, blah blah blah. Yawn.

Only a true Mariah fan would clearly see that Mariah is not lipsynching. The album version has different vocal arrangements, the tracking is slightly different, & I think Perez needs to get accept that Mariah can perform an amazing vocal LIVE - whether he wishes to believe it or not.

First of all, the quality of that video isn't the greatest, so I don't know how can anyone tell whether or not she's really singing? Second, this version was a bit different, especially with the high notes at the end, so more than likely she was singing. I'm sure she sang with a backing track, but who doesn't??
