Legendary musician Bo Diddley passed away today, Monday, due to heart failure.

He was 79 years old.

Diddley had suffered a heart attack in August 2007, three months after suffering a stroke while touring in Iowa.

Diddley's often credited as a key figure in the transition from blues to rock and roll with his hard-edged guitar sound. He was also known for his characteristic rectangular guitar.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Huge loss. The guy was the king of rock and roll rhythm guitar, not to mention a great performer. He had more style in his little finger than any pop or rock stars out there today. His lyrical style was also a direct forebearer of what would become rap nd hip hop. He'll be missed.

A true pioneer. Rock, rap, pop, R&B, even country as we know it today was built on the backs of guys like Bo Diddley, and the others that came along with him. Without Bo, there is no James Brown, no Beatles, no Garth Brooks, no Led Zeppelin, and almost everyone since. RIP.

I met Bo diddly in 1970. He and his hippie girlfriend were hanging out with a whole group of us. Someone brought in some peyote. everone did it but Bo. He just said no thanks , smiled, and proceeded to play his guitar. That was all he needed to get high. needless to say, we all had a great time.

#27 dmd or numnuts! Don't be a hater, there are genuinely nice people in the world who are sorry for families and friends left behind.
btw - - did you know; "Who Do You Love" best known sung by George Thoroghgood, Bo wrote … "Desire" U2, Bo wrote … "Faith" George Michael, Bo wrote DID YOU KNOW ANY OF THOSE…BET NOT!

    39. Kim says – reply to this

      39

Bo Diddly created the "Bo Diddly beat" which is used in songs such as The Who's Magic Bus, the infamous song "Candy" and U2's "Desire" to Bruce Springsteen's "She's the One" to George Michael's "Faith". The man's beat lives on.

How truly sad that this wonderfully talented musician only got 43 comments about his passing and the most inane untalented people you post about will get hundreds or thousands of responses :( Seriously Perez most of the music you promote on your website is horrible and people love it…Sad day for music indeed and this lack of concern or knowledge about who this man is/was tells me exactly why so much of todays music is utter crap!!! :( R.I.P. Bo, thanks for all you did.
