While many of us in America prepare to celebrate Gay Pride this coming weekend and throughout the month of June….
Many of us take such a public act for granted!
However, this past weekend a small group of brave Russian men and women defied a ban in Moscow and held their Gay Pride parade.
They were far outnumbered, however, by those opposing their public display of pride.
Russian Orthodox and far-right opponents hurled eggs at gay activists and, in one instance, were seen punching a gay man to the ground and some elderly ladies were holding an anti-gay vigil on the pavement, dressed in headscarves and holding icons of Orthodox saints.
Sunday's event was timed to mark the May 27th anniversary of a 1993 change in the law that decriminalized homosexuality in Russia.
Don't take your ability to show your pride this weekend for granted.
And, thankfully, in California, we can now celebrate the right to marry!
We are lucky to live in a state that sees all residents equal under the law.

It's such an exciting time for this new recognition of equality. I am beyond thrilled that California is taking this HUGE step forward. Obviously, there will always be a backlash, as people feel they need to continue to judge others for who they intrinsically are. Ironic, as many of them are staunchly religious… and, in truth, Jesus was the biggest forward thinking "hippy" of all time. It's a shame people forget about love and tolerance, huh?
Anyway… it's wonderful to live in a country where our freedom to demonstrate our pride in anything is legally upheld. And, I'm actually thinking there's a good chance my daughter will be born on the actual day that California recognizes gay marriage (June 17th). What a great time to clelebrate, indeed!

The point of Gay Pride is to represent a faction of people who have struggled and faced discrimination their whole life. Most if not all of these people are forced into an underground scene because of the heterosexual norms that are pervasive in society. Gay Pride exists to remember and celebrate the individuals who have struggled to make the world a more enlightend and tolerant place. It is similar to African-America Pride month, Women's Pride, and other months dedicated to minorities who have suffered at the hands of the ignorant majority.
Hetrosexuals do not need their own pride parade because they have never been described as minorities based upon their sexual orientation. Heterosexuals are allowed show public displays of affection in public and are constantly flaunting their sexual preference to the world. Homosexuals do not feel comfortable exercising the same rights. Hetrosexuals are allowed more rights in America than homosexuals. A hetrosexual is rarely killed for being hetrosexual, and yet just a few months ago, a 14 year old boy was murdered for being a homosexual.
If you would like to experience the pain of being a discriminated minority, then you too shall have your pride parade. Pride is earned not given, and by any justification, the gay and lesbian population has deserved their march.

You might have a point here. But we heterosexuals can reproduce more children to make up for the misguided one. I suggest that you gay people ban together and start a halfway house for underage gay teens who families abandom them. That way, you can all help support their cause and their families can be assured they have a safe place to live. I don't think parents would stop loving their gay children, but many would find it extremely hard to raise, claim and defend them for their lifestyle choice. I would even be willing to send in monetary support if I had a family member of friends' child that could be sent there.

OMG! I so feel sorry for you. Who says we can't have children. I have defied the odds when at age 18, while in a hetrosexual relationship had a child. The mother turned out to be a straight, disgusting, tramp and decided on a life of prostitution and I did not want my child raised around that and I took her ass to court at age 18, a gay man at the time, and won custody of my kid. I raised him without his mother's help for 22 years now. I went to all of his school functions with my partner, his friends came over to the house and played with him like normal children. His friends parents were all very supportive and are true friends to this day. I am still with the same partner and we own a nice home, have wonderful hetrosexual neighbors and a respected, straight son who would be the first to defend his TWO DADDIES.

I agree that what Meg wrote sounded very harsh and cruel, but she does have a good suggestion for those families who find it unbearable to accept their child's sexual orientation. There are some parents out there who do disown their kids once they find out they are gay. These kids often have little choices but to turn to crime and and drugs and be further sexualy mainpulated. If you really care about and support gay rights, pride, etc., then what she proposed is actualy a good thing!
