this may very well be a good organization, but this is irresponsible — not a shock — to just be saying donate to this. There are a lot of bogus charities out there and scams so people, read up on your own. I wouldn't take this guys recommendations — think about the things you are interested in and then do the research on your own. I'm sure he's getting a piece of the donations — or something — to promote these organizations.

Thanks so much for highlighting this charity Perez! My niece Amanda died at the age of 7 from neuroblastoma in 1994. At the time she was one of the longest survivors of the disease (she was diagnosed at the age of 4 and at the time the prognosis was only a few months). This is a very rare cancer and it only affects children. Thanks again Perez.

Neuroblastoma is a horrible horrible cancer. After my 3 year old was diagnosed with two types of Leukemia 1 year ago, I've met many many families with children that have Neuroblastoma and every month I get an email that a child has died. It's very sad and it SUCKS! Cancer Sucks! No child deserves this.

Yes cancer sucks but medical advances have also changed the course of evolution. The unfortunate reality of life is that some living beings are not for this life.

I agree that you should donate to children's cancer organizations if you know they are legit. My niece, who was 6, just passed away in February 2008 of this same cancer, Neuroblastoma. This is a very rare and fast growing cancer. From my understanding there is not a lot of funding from government for pediatric cancer. I do not know about this particular organization, but there is one called Lunch for Life (LFL) (www.lunchforlife.org) It is a very good organization for donating. This past year with the fundraising for my niece and LFL matching her donations, LFL gave a $65,000 check to Texas Children's hospital located in Houston in her name and a friend of hers that has the same kind of cancer. If you can, please do your part in donating.

Not only do these kids have to fight for their lives, but they lose so much if they do win. Notice the hearing-aids? The poison to save them destroys so much. Neuro is horrible, all of it is horrible.

For those of you saying mean things, I DARE YOU to visit bandofparents.org and read the stories. You might feel different, but you are not as strong as these kids so I don't think you could handle it.

      Relapse is all too common.

Thanks Perez for calling attention to finding a cure and a safer way to save our children.

It's great that Perez supports causes like this, but how can he be so generous to some children on the one hand, and insult some babies' appearances on the other? What would happen if one of these "less cute" celebrity babies got cancer? Would he say they got what they deserved? Ignore them? Or, in true Perez fashion, would he change his tune and cry "so sad?"

      What a fucking hypocrite.

All childhood cancers suck! Relapsed neuroblastoma is generally not survivable. Diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas are brain stem tumors that are almost fatal. Ewing's sarcoma, hepatoblastoma … the list goes on and on. So much money and research is given to breast cancer. Very little goes to pediatric cancers. Too many beautiful children are dying daily. All donations are appreciated.

    27. Jenna says – reply to this

      27

This disease is horrible and the Magic Water Project is one of the few organizations whose funds do in fact go entirely to researching a cure for Neuroblastoma…to help save kids who are fighting this cancer now. Who cares about Perez's motivations (or even if he were to be paid for posting this post) - the cause is extremely important and if he can raise awareness than that's a good thing.

    28. dmd says – reply to this

I know of 2 families who lost very young children to Neuroblastoma and our 10 year old was diagnosed with Leukemia 3 years ago at age 7 and almost died..He is now is remission but had to endure hospitalizations, surgery, grueling chemo and had 15 blood transfusions. We are very grateful and thankful to the Canadian Cancer Society and Children's Wish Foundation for all they have done, and to people who have donated(donated both blood, and money, to the cause) to have made this battle a success.God bless you all.We also banked our baby's cord blood last year in case he relapses and needs a stem-cell transplant and I suggest anyone having a baby make this investment as it may save a life, either the baby itself or a sibling.

      33

Yes, it sucks. What else sucks is the fact that my husband & his team of doctors at UCSD have been fighting an uphill battle when it comes to funding for their cancer project.

My husband spent years with all his heart and $$$ on this "melanoma drug". We finished the animal models. Now we need money to fund the human trials. It is sad because we only need 3 millions to get it going.. We got doctors, hospital.. The money needed is only going to produce the drug & administrative costs.

3 mil is not a lot in this day and age. But it is an impossible when you dont have it. We exhausted our own $$$, because we funded everything up until now.

Everytime I read another case of someone dying from cancer, I am mad and sad at the same time. My husband is purely a science person, not a business man.. We've approached big Pharmas, but we were told to come back when the data for the first trial… It is a catch 22!

Perhaps I can start a site where I can ask for donation! Just a thought!

      Cancer Sucks!
I know first hand. My son who is now 9 is just finishing up his 3yrs and 3months of chemo, he takes his last dose of chemo on June 28th, he has ALL - Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He has had a very hard road and we almost lost him twice. But he is a fighter and we are so very lucky to have him in our lives. We are so excited that he is almost done, now we just have to pray that he will not relapse, if a child is going to relapse it will be in the 1st year OFF treatment, so we are very nervous.

Supporting Cancer is the best gift you could give a child w/ Cancer, I am sure they are close to a cure and we want to help them find it soon, NO CHILD should go through this horrible disease EVER!

      39

I'm the mom of a kid with neuroblastoma. He's been in treatment now for close to four years - with no end in sight because there is no cure for this disease and therfore no protocol for the doctors to follow. Each child with this cancer will go through a different set of treatments all in the hope of giving them more "time." Hopefully quality time and not time spent in the hospital recovering.

MagicWater project (MWP) is a REAL charity. A grassroots effort started by NB parents where every penny (yes EVERY penny) goes to research. There is no payroll. The parents and friends who help with MWP donate their time in an effort to give our kids more time. Click on the link and read about MagicWater.

I did not know anything about this organization until last year when they came home from school with a fundraiser "coins for cancer". Towards the end of every school year they try to raise as much money as they can for Sam! To those who think that this is not a real organization, I can assure you it is. This truely is a worth wild cause to donate to.

Re: John – BOOYAH…That is absolutely right. It does suck but thats life, things you have to deal with. What's more painful having a horrible disease and suffering through years of treatment just because people sympathize and get ruled by compassion. If a animal in the wild is injured that is usually the end of it and that keeps a natural ballance. Humans are animals too but think because we have adaptions and cognitive capabilities that it makes it ok to cheat the natural course of life.

      49

Re: dmd – Really? Do you agree with that thinking as it pertains to any disease treated by drugs? How about blood pressure medicine? Are you against all drugs and treatments that save lives or just kids in general? Maybe 12,000 kids a year get cancer…if it is overpopulation you are so worried about…try handing out condoms…or outlawing antibiotics. Better yet, do us all a favor and go get yourself snipped.

    50. la la says – reply to this

      51

Re: Really – haha funny…actually i like my balls and my dick so dont think ill volunteer for any cutting. Yes you are absolutely right, condoms, education should help over population but that is not my point. Do I think cancer is bad, yes, does heart burn suck it sure does but the point is is that we are curing people or prolonging their lives because we dont want to let go due to human emotion. I'm not wishing death upon anyone with an illness I just have mixed views on the human condition that people can't accept the cycle of life.

And btw very little cancer money is used for pediatric cancers. You can also check out university of vermont study of nifurtimox to see where some of your money will go if you donate to magic water.
