Songstress and Marc Jacobs model M.I.A. was paid a pretty penny to perform at an MTV Movie Awards after-party on Sunday.
Tongues were wagging when she disclosed at the event how much she was paid to perform and what she plans to do with the money.
Mid-song, M.I.A. announced, “They’re giving me $100,000. Not bad, eh? I’m going to use it to build schools in Liberia. It costs $52,000 to build a school for 1,000.”
Building a school in Africa…she's just like Oprah and Madonna!

Fuck Africa, we have a problem with schools here in Africa. In stead of giving money, food, etc. to every other country in this world (They dont appreciate it anyway), spend that money here.
There are plenty of kids without an education, plenty of folks without a home.
Hell if they took the money wasted on this election and spent it on the homeless, trust me it would make a dent.

tg - I DO study history, I also know that Africa was NOT this perfect utopian society before Europeans ever came there. Africa has a long history of intertribal slavery and oppression. The slave trade in and among Africans was well-established long before the WHITE MAN, as you put it. Africans used slave labor on their own farms for centuries. In fact the first non-Africans to engage in the inter-African slave trade were Arabs, who brought the religion of Islam with them. The first Europeans to go into Africa were not even looking to buy slaves, they wanted resources such as gold, etc… but they kept getting approached to buy slaves, because Africans made a great deal of money from dealing with each other in slaves. Does that make Africa any different than any other continent? No. Europeans enslaved each other, as did Asians. Chinese slaves built the Great Wall.

Part 2 - The slave trade does not make Africa unique, and it is not something invented by Europeans to perpetuate upon Africans. Granted Europeans and Arabs did cause the demand for slaves to go up, and they are not innocent, but by no means did they invent it. They participated in a legitimate economy at the time, and they purchased these slaves from OTHER AFRICANS who profited mightily from it and had plenty of incentive to do it. Should we be angry that all this happened? Yes. But if you think Europeans went in to the jungles of Africa and bonked black people over the head and drug them onto ships, then you are mistaken. It was other Africans did the dirty work and made it possible. Everyone shares equal blame for it. But I will also say this - the Europeans did not invent or start slavery in Africa, but they sure are the ones who stopped it, aren't they? Anti-slavery movement came from the Western world, and Africans were the ones who did not want to stop trading in people. It is/was so ingrained that it has never completely stopped to this day.
