Maybe you should just look at it at how much more acceptable it is, even within only two years, for someone to be gay. Maybe your willingness to report honestly has opened the door for other sources to do the same thing without it being a big deal that someone is gay or experimenting or whatever. Ok Perez since nobody seems to be taking this posting shit seriously, I wanted to give my insight to the "outing" of celebrities by mainstream media. Here's what I think; I think that the reason nobody is saying shit to 'People' or 'OK!' or any others, is because you've paved the way for it to be ok for them to report on that kinda shit now. No offense, but 2 years ok, you weren't the hugh media star you are now…maybe you were famous, but not to the same caliber as these big magazines. Now, everybody knows you break stories and most of the time you're dead-on, and so they started to play your game, and taking chances, and grew some fucking balls and are now calling people out on their preferences, lifestyles, habits, etc.

Maybe since you were getting all that grief years ago, you have unwittingly changed the way mainstream entertainment "journalism" operates. I use "journalism" in quotes because I'm an actual journalist and I don't believe "entertainment journalism" is real journalism. That, and, as a blogger, people assume you don't always check and double check your sources because you don't have to, whereas with a mainstream magazine, readers assume that checking has been done. Well, in my opinion, if there was a way for you to access the things about Lance and his boyfriend, then obviously people in public were seeing it…so maybe "out"ing him wasn't that bad… But, then again, it's kind of sad that we have to put labels on ourselves that are contingent upon our sexual preference.

I don't think it is every okay to out someone — even if they are a public figure and it can technically be considered "reporting". Anyone who has come out should know what an important event it is and everyone should be allowed the dignity of coming out in their own way and at their own discretion. As a gay woman, I don't want myself represented in the media by people who are forced out of the closet. I want to see strong, unapologetic gay men and women making it in Hollywood. Rather than trying to "out" closeted celebs, let support the many celebrities who are already out and proud, but who have not yet made it into the "mainstream". Check out musicians like Tegan & Sara, actors like Jill Bennett and Leisha Hailey, comedians like Bridget McManus, Liz Feldman, Julie Goldman and more. It's much less morally ambiguous to throw support at them than to shine light on gays and lesbians who are obviously not completely comfortable with who they are — or who are not interested in being spokespeople for the LGBT community.
I think you're completely right about lesbians being held to a different standard than gay men. It's like the world thinks it's fine (or not so bad) for women to "experiment," whereas a guy with another guy is a big deal and is rarely seen as experimenting. I guess it's like 'outing' a lesbian isn't necessarily outing someone because she might actually go back to boys, but 'outing' a gay man is seen as yes, this man is gay. It's sad that so many double standards exist, but hey, life's rarely fair.

I think the difference between Lindsay and Lance is that Lindsay has pretty much outed herself by being so public with Samantha. I don't think she's trying to hide it. Lance, and definitely Wentworth, were consciously trying to hide their sexuality.
