Times are tough!

Continental Airlines is cutting THREE THOUSAND jobs and scaling back flights.

Expect ticket prices to continue to escalate industry-wide and probably more layoffs too.

Damn this fuel crisis!!!!

I was about to start training for Continental this month. I moved out of my apartment, quit my job, packed up and ready to start and possibly move to New Jersey and then just got a call about 2 wks ago letting me know they were cancelling all training. Very devistating…had to pick up and start my life all over.

GOOD, those Continental employees are a bunch of lazy FUCKS anyway, especially the flight attendants. All they do is stand around and gossip during flights and talk about sucking cock. WHORES! I hope they all end up homeless and starve to death or have to sell their ass on the street for a dollar!!! xoxox Carlie :)

I hate to break it to you, but there is NO fuel crisis. Living in Alberta I can tell you that the reason the fuel prices are the way they are is because the oil and gas industries have learned that no matter how high they raise their prices, morons are still going to drive around in Hummers.

Yeah! Damn the fuel crisis and the Environmentalists who are keeping Congress from allowing oil companies in the US to drill for oil HERE instead of sending out $700 BILLION a year (which is 5X what we pay for the Iraq war in a year) to countries that absolutely hate us. Don't blame George Bush. He tried desperately to pass an energy bill from 2001 on but Noooo…You goones in California spread propaganda about how oil companies would "ruin" the environment…which is just that…propaganda. How many of you are investing money in the "Go green" effort while 85 percent of working people suffer? It's disgusting. Find out the facts…Al Gore has invested MILLIONS in oil …profiting from his Global Warming lies.

The real problem is that no one understands the real problem. Prices are high because now we have to compete with countries like China & India for fuel. The average person in China uses 1/12th as much fuel as your average American - what will we do when they get as industrialized as us? We'll be up shit creek, that's what.

Not to mention that in many states, the GOVERNMENT makes as much as THREE TIMES the profit from taxes as the oil companies do! Nancy Pelosi's state does! You don't see her offering to forego her salary to cut your gas bill.

This idea that the oil companies are raising prices just because they can is PROPAGANDA. And if you buy into it, you are stooooopid. Go take an Econ class.

Not to say that prices will go down, but at least we have a greater chance of them remaining the same.

      Karma's a bitch, isn't it!

Continental destroyed many airlines in the 80s, bought them up and spit them out, they are responsible for the downfall of the time when it was glamors to fly. My mom flew for Eastern, they were amazing and still portrayed in cinema as a symbol of the era, after Continental bought them they riped their planes to shreads and fired only the Eastern people (the good looking lfight attendants) that's why you see old haggs serving you now, no standards!

They picked and prodded until flying became cheap and equivalent to cattle herding! I hope they sink! I'll never fly them!

PS: I still feel bad for the employees, but the corporate ass holes can go rote for all I care!

No offense to those who've lost their jobs in all this. My comments are directed to the airline companies, only. As far as I'm concerned, the airlines deserve all the bad karma they have coming. For years, they've benefitted from running their show like cops, while pretending that they care about us as customers. Recent incidents regarding tarmac detainments, and the airlines' efforts to deny us a passenger bill of rights, prove to me that they only care about money & control. I rarely come right out and just say things this way, but fuck them. I have absolutely no sympathy whatsoever for their situation. They should all just stop pretending that they care about the passengers and just become another branch of the government, so they can justify treating people the way they do (considering that most government agencies don't give a crap). Okay, I'm done.

Fuel Crisis?? You think you have it bad in the US? Whats your gas at the moment, from what I can tall its about $1 a litre (sorry if you dont work in litres! And sorry if im misinformed!) Here in the UK it works out at about $3 a litre! But thats just our government whacking tax on, we have the highest fuel prices in the world at the moment. Its a shame for the people at Continental though. People here are starting to loose their jobs, because they cant afford to drive to work or the companies cant afford the fuel. Its just all got out of hand!

In the 60s they use to hire sexy girls….now it's the ugliest, low rent, meanest folks they can find. All the customer service lookers have gone to other jobs where they can make a buck…they airlines are stuck with the bottom of the barrel when it comes to employees. Low renters who take this job as a step up from their last Wendy's job. Seriously when was the last time you saw a flight attendant who was a looker or flashed anyone a smile?

The oil companies claim they need all of this profit to research the alternative that we will be turning to in the future. IN REALITY, we are on the brink of switching to a variety of alternative fuels, so the oil companies are trying to profit as much as possible off of us, while we are still dependent on them, & THEY KNOW THAT THEIR TIME IS RUNNING OUT. Soon- we will be running our vehicles on everything but fossil fuels. PLEASE BE REASONABLE- HYBRID/ELECTRIC CARS ARE THE FUTURE. It does not mean that you are a hippy environmentalist. Tell the oil companies to f@*k themselves! Vow that your next car will run on alternative energy.

    64. 64

I've never gotten anything but grief from Continental employees. Maybe now they can focus on the quality of the people they hire rather than the quantity. It's not like they're firing skilled people anyway..if you want some job security maybe you should go to college and stop pretending that life will get easier for you once a Democrat is in the White House. I hate to break it to you, but there isn't some magical economy lever that Bush switched to "shitty" when he took office.

    65. 65

      Re: $10/ga

You are a complete asshat my friend.
I'm sitting in the offices of an international oil exploration company as we speak and I can tell you for a fact that what you just said is asinine. The demand for oil is greater than ever, and a handful of electric cars and some guy making a VW bus run on french fry grease isn't exactly a great threat to our industry. We find the oil. We sell it to the highest bidder like BP who refines it and makes gasoline. You don't feel like taking the bus to work, so the highest bidder recoups their expenditure by bleeding you dry at the pump.

You want the price to go down? Stop using so much friggin gasoline and quit acting like we should scale down our profits because it's costing you $100/week to fill your SUV. Would Macy's decrease the price of a pair of pants if everyone really really wanted them at the same time? No? Then why should we do the same with the crude we're digging out of South America?

I used to work for Continental until I left last year because their benefits for employees were horrible. Employees had not received raises since 9-11, many of those emp. had to take paycuts and still haven't gotten back what they were making. I will say, though, that they are one of the best, if not the best domestic airline out there in terms of service and quality. As for waiting on tarmacs and such, that's not the airlines fault, that's the government's fault too. The FFA controls the tower, which in turn controls when the pilots can take off. They tell them when to pull away from the gates and what number they are in line to take off. And once you pull away from the gate, you can't pull back because of other FFA rules or some other BS. The pilots want to get to their destination as badly as you do. I do feel bad for CO employees since I still have friends that work there but if you keep increasing prices, have people pay for even bringing one bag and other such nonsense then people won't continue to fly. In the end, everything is increasing (food, gas, electricity prices, flights, movies, etc.) except our paychecks. And no, I don't work for an airline.
