Ok so explain why Canada is at fault for this waitress losing her job? Seems to me it would be the restaurant's issue, not a nation…. Kinda a big country, you know?

I live in Canada–one news report said that the owner said it was "offensive" for a woman to have hair like that. I think he should be shut down–what do you suggest we do? All we can do is not go there, let him go out of business.

I love this website, but I think it's soo close-minded to make a comment like that about Canada. I'm sure it's happened in other places as well. I live in Canada and I don't think that what they did can be justified any way, shape or form.

It's not fair to put the entire country into that category.

damn thats lame, not many people would sacrifice something like that for charity and the few people who do loose their jobs over it? what a jackass her boss must be….i bet it would be a different story if someone he knew was dealing with cancer and he appreciated her efforts to help raise money!

im a server in calgary alberta and this is JUST ludicris! my manager today told me that he would never fire someone for shaving their hair. What this boils down to is discrimination. In the calgary sun the manager said that hair and everything has to be at respectable lengths, hes pretty much saying to this poor lady is taht yeeeah your too ugly to work here. Pure discrimanation. and I agree with BRi. Canada is not at fault. this is simply a discrimanatory person who is DEFINATLY in the wrong here.

  28. LoliT@ says – reply to this
    28

Wow, that is horrible that they fired her!! For doing something to charity??

As the employer stated, it was an employee-employer issue. This has absolutely nothing to do with Canada as a nation. I, being from Canada, totally disagree with what happened to this waitress and find it disgraceful, and as you may find so will any other Canadian(one with a brain and a heart that is!!).
    Peace

  34. jeff says – reply to this
    34

I can't believe that this would happen in Canada. At the same time you can't blame 33 million people for one asshole boss!

  35. D. says – reply to this
    35

I dont understand why this happened at all… and even more shocking is that it took place in Owen Sound. They should be firing people for the mullets there not shaved heads for cancer

  36. Meliss says – reply to this
    36

Lets not blame Canada for this. it's the fault of one restaurant owner.

  37. Tyler says – reply to this

Are you seriously saying, what they did, reflects every Canadian?

I am Canadian, and this is offensive.

It is sad by the way

  38. Hollyj says – reply to this
    38

we are all just as upset - it was prominent in the news today and is very unacceptable. BUT as Bri said - one company does not make a nation!!! I think it speaks volumes that this one incident in Canada has received so much press from CANADIANS - I'm sure there are many similar incidents around the world that we never hear of.

  39. Stevie says – reply to this
    39

Wow. This is so ridiculous. I send my regards to that woman.

  40. CADH says – reply to this
    40

That is crazy! Hopefully my home country will help that poor lady and help the man who fired her get his priorities strightened out

  41. 41

I live in Ontario and am captain of a dragon boat team which raises money for breast cancer research and when I read this earlier this week I was appalled. However this is job specific not the whole of Canada Perez. The thing that gets me is why would she have to tell her boss anything, what if she was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo chemo, would she ask her boss if she could start lossing her hair. NO, he needs to apologize and give her job back and make a sizable donation in her name to Cops for Cancer for his grievance against her.

  42. I dont says – reply to this
    42

Yes Perez, it does seem pretty logical to slander an entire country because of the ignorance of one establishment!

  43. Katie says – reply to this
    43

PEREZ- I completely agree with you… BUT… I am from Canada, Owen Sound actually and this is not a reflection on CANADA, it's a refelction of a couple ignorant restaurant owners. Please, all you are doing here is furthering Americans stereotypes of Canadians, you're making it seem like all Canadians feel this way… WAY TO GO.

  44. Britne says – reply to this

Last week it was a woman losing her job at Tim Hortons for giving a baby a Timbit (without paying for it). Now, it's the woman shaving her head. What next? Come on Canadian Media…. Go after the Tories and their Election Scandal, instead of giving us this "wag the dog".

  45. La Lis says – reply to this
    45

    Re: BRi – Nicely worded

  46. Lazaru says – reply to this
    46

Yep that's retarded, just like the woman who got fired from Tim Hortons for giving a baby a free timbit.

    BUT… people,

NOT ALL OF CANADA IS LIKE THIS!!! Don't blame this on a country Perez, it's isolated incidents involving jackass management!

  47. Kris says – reply to this
    47

Perez, I'm Canadian.. Live only hours away from Owen Sound, and it has nothing to do our fine country. Stop generalizing an entire nation because one person that lives in a very small city here, made an 'asshole' move.
You're just as fucking bad. You've just lost a reader.

Re: Penny – I know what you mean…..I'm pretty disgusted myself!! :(

  50. g says – reply to this

  51. kstini says – reply to this
    51

I shaved my head in support of my sister having cancer, and the same typs of thing happened, my employeer asked me to take some 'time off' for my hair to grow, or to get a wig!
Needless to say I called h.r and got it dealt with no wig or time off for me

  52. stepha says – reply to this
    52

I agree with BRi. It's not the nation's issue, it's the restaurants. That could happen anywhere in the world. Don't blame it on Canada.

  53. elo says – reply to this
    53

It's sad when an employee thinks that they can harm the hand that feeds them and then play it off in the media as a misunderstanding or victimization.

  54. 54

Ridiculous. People are so prejudice. She should not have lost her job. Once again, "Can we all just get along?" ………. "We Got To Live Together" ~ Jimi Hendrix

  55. Rachel says – reply to this
    55

He wasn't blaming EVERY Canadian, it was a generalized comment.. I am Canadian too so I have every right to say CALM DOWN to you all. Put your anger towards the owner, not Perez. I say the restaurant should be BOYCOTTED. Also EVERY employee there should shave their heads in protest for their fellow worker.. what is the owner gonna do? FIRE ALL OF THEM???

  56. EssJ says – reply to this
    56

I WANT to know the name of that restaurant so i will NEVER go there!

To me Owen Sound has always been the mullet capital of the WORLD!

  59. Kateri says – reply to this
    59

Canada is not to blame, the owner is.
She'll easily get her job back, it's against the law to fire someone for a stupid reason like that. I bet she'll even get job offers way better than the one she had before.

  60. merrra says – reply to this
    60

I am from a town very close to Owen Sound and this is the first time I've ever heard of anything like this in our area. I agree it is completely unacceptable and I will never be eating in that restaurant again.

  61. Are yo says – reply to this
    61

Come on Prez, you cannot blame this on a whole country!! I bet this shit happens in the states too and I find it very offensive that you blame this situation on Canada and not the douche bag restaurant owner.

Also if you were properly informed of the whole story I doubt you would be saying 'shame on Canada'. This woman actually has the option to file a human rights case against her former employer and she has chosen NOT TO because she just wants to move on and really wanted to bring light to issues such as these.

  62. sess says – reply to this
    62

i dont really like how you call the whole country out on this though. we're not all douches, just because he is. are you proud of EVERYONE in the u.s.?

  63. Palma says – reply to this
    63

I think this is one of the first bad things I've heard happen in Canada, ever! Really though, this is horrible. Would they fire a man for shaving his head, for any reason? Anything that helps cancer or any disease should be greatly applauded. This really is a horrid story, the owner should be put out of business, he's a disgrace to society.

  64. Brian says – reply to this
    64

I always know the Ontarian where stupid i got my proof now…lol from a Quebecker

  65. Fort says – reply to this
    65

Yea well - not as stupid as the entire American public supporting whatshisface. Him and his people will not help the US. And here minor news in Canada hits your site….stupid but it happens everywhere and this case is nothing compared to what is happening everything around the world with worse worse worse and double worse issues.

Plus, everything hitting Tim Hortons makes the news in Canada these days. They should start hitting the news on walmart, zellars, country style and every place else for that matter. I hear of incidents all the time. Guess just depends what people wanna make hype….

Still the only thing I would contribute is the second grade a food stuff Tim's serves. Yuck. But that's my only complaint.

  66. 66

PS ~ WE love you Canada. This is obviously an isolated case…

  67. Taylor says – reply to this
    67

Wow that's one of the most disgusting things i have ever heard. That man needs to be taken out and beat with a bat.

  68. cl says – reply to this
    68

Technically, the restaurant laid her off for the summer and she's decided to not return to work after that period. I don't agree with what's been doing but that wouldn't happen in most spots in canada for the record. Clearly you've never met most of the assholes that actually live in ontario. As shocked as I am, I wasn't surprised to hear that it happened in ontario.

and to Amy the woman who got fired from tim's actually got her job back once headoffice found out.

  69. fghf says – reply to this

  72. Jen says – reply to this

I also don't see how this is Canada's fault. It's the restaurants fault. American's don't like it when other nations judge them based on George Bush …are you not doing something similar?

  73. Tif says – reply to this

She didn't such a nice and thoughtless thing (not a crazy Brittney thing) and this is what happended to her? They SUCK!!!

  74. n. says – reply to this

Oh, jeez. Perez, it's not the whole of Canada that is doing it. It's one restaurant i
