Back in April, funnyman Jay Leno was in the LGBT community's dog house because of the way he teased Ryan Philippe for playing a gay teen on the soap One Live to Live and asking the actor to give him his best "gay face" on the show.
Leno eventually apologized, but it was his attendance at Wednesday's "Vow to Vote No" commitment ceremony benefiting Matthew Shepard's "Erase Hate" campaign that got him 100% back in the good graces of gay rights advocacy group GLAAD.
"You stood alongside Judy Shepard and T.R. Knight, you spoke about your gay friends and co-workers, and how you're supportive of their relationships and desire to marry," Damon Romine, Director of Media Entertainment at GLAAD wrote in an open letter to Leno posted on GLAAD's web site, US Weekly reports.
Romine also said, "Straight allies like Jay can be some of the most effective and powerful voices in our struggle for fundamental freedoms."

What freedoms do gays actually not have? Last I checked the only thing they were not allowed to do is get married. That no longer is the case in Cali but come on, they equate that as if they aren't being allowed to love or have a relationship which just isn't true. Jay Leno is a comedian. The best comedians are always pushing hot topic social buttons ie: Lenny Bruce, Sarah Silverman, Richard Prior, even Eddie Murphy. Comedians offend people because they want to poke fun at the seriousness of the world. Although Jay Leno is not funny, he should be able to say what he wants off the cuff and not have to apologize. No one is allowed to say anything funny because it always ends up offending someone. Perez you should know that by now. You offend people everyday.

This is the first I've heard about the "gay face" thing, but it doesn't surprise me. Mainly because I don't think it's wrong. You say gay face all the time. I think we should be having a dialog about equality and speech. Not allowing straight people to use terms that gay people use regularly just furthers the divide between people. I hate it when people say the word fag, but I hate it when gay people use it too. AND i hate it even more when I call out my straight friends using it who justify using it by saying their gay friends say it.

Jay was doing nothing more than trying to get a laugh when he made that comment to Ryan. This is what comics do…they are always trying TO GET LAUGHS, and first and foremost he is a comedian. He jokes around with Ross the Intern but always treats him with respect and keeps having him back to do the videos. Not sure why there was such a big deal about this Ryan thing.

Listen you bigots, the "small group of judges" who are "going against the will of the people" and legalizing gay marriage are actually mostly conservative and appointed by republicans. It just so happens that they're following the will of the Constitution. I don't know why Perez thinks GLAAD is a useless organization, but I do know that when we all support gay rights, we're supporting our fellow Americans to have equal rights under the Constitution, just like every American deserves.

Perez, you're nuts. I have personally volunteered for GLAAD on several occasions over the past year. I've been to their NY offices, I've volunteered at the last two Media Awards in NY. I can personally say that I've never met kinder, more dedicated people than those I've met at GLAAD. I was treated with dignity and respect and have been thanked over and over again by them showing a true humbleness and seriousness for the cause. I think I know what your problem is though. They don't like you because you out celebrities. You're not so opposed to the good work they do (because you benefit from it). You're more opposed that they'd dare to insult YOU. Hey Perez, I read this site every single day at lunch and I love to read it. I never comment though. It's blithe opinions like what you just put out there though that causes more harm than good to the cause. Please retract that statement. I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels like you should.
