Clint Eastwood sat down with the British media and let loose on everything from his feud with Spike Lee to his support of John McCain. A Hollywood Republican! GASP!
Here are some of the sit-down highlights:
In regards to Spike Lee's gripe that Clint Eastwood failed to tip a hat to the contributions of a small African American unit on Iwo Jima in the war flick Flags of Our Fathers: "Has he (Spike) ever studied the history?" asked Clint. Yes, there was a small detachment of black troops on Iwo Jima as a part of a munitions company, "but they didn't raise the flag. The story is Flags of Our Fathers, the famous flag-raising picture, and they didn't do that. If I go ahead and put an African-American actor in there, people'd go, 'This guy's lost his mind.' I mean, it's not accurate." "A guy like him should shut his face."
On being labeled a Hollywood Republican Clint says, "I don't pay attention to either side. I mean, I've always been a libertarian. Leave everybody alone. Let everybody else do what they want. Just stay out of everybody else's hair. So I believe in that value of smaller government. Give politicians power and all of a sudden they'll misuse it on ya."
And what about John McCain? Eastwood tells the Brit reporter, "My wife used to be an anchorwoman in Arizona, so she knew John McCain and she liked him and I kinda liked him. In fact, we sort of supported him when he was running the first time against Bush eight years ago. But we haven't been active as yet. It's kind of a zoo out there right now. So I think I'll kinda let things percolate."
One thing Eastwood also makes clear is that he will definitely not be making Dirty Harry 6, despite rumours to the contrary. "Some idiot came up with some theory," he says. The crime flick Gran Torino, which he is due to film at some point, is emphatically not part of the Dirty Harry cycle. "Not at my age," he stresses. "There are certain age limits on police officers. They'd have retired me out at 65."

Agree with Clint. If no blacks participated in the historical event, then why should blacks be featured? It wouldn't be historically accurate. A Native-American man helped and he was featured in the movie. He was played by Adam Beach. That's accurate. Lee clearly has an agenda: A MOVIE TO PROMOTE. At this point, people like Lee, Sharpton and Jackson are like the "boy who cried wolf." No one cares anymore. These people have made names for themselves "crying wolf," and playing the race card.

Flags of our Fathers was a great story and a significant moment in American history. If an African American was not present for the raising of that flag, then let it go - it's not part of the story. Sadly, military units of the US were segregated, there were many many incredible units made up of Black soldiers, but the films are meant to show a specific part of the campaign, for example, the munitions supply unit on Iwo Jima, a Black unit, was not present for the flag raising, they had too much s**t to do! You can hardly think there should have been black actors as Japanese soldiers, do you? So Sands of Iwo Jima is a non issue. Facts are facts, and lets show more of the whole army but not denigrate them by making crap up.
Clint spoke at my college graduation and he is probably one of the most gracious, classy individuals ever. He shook hands with the graduates as we were getting ready to walk in. That was a big highlight of my college experience!

I would have been all aboard with what clint was saying (I'm not a big spike fan), however his facts are incorrect. Over 900 black men served in iwo jima (my grandpa included). They may not have been the people who raised the flag, but there would have been black soldiers somewhere in the background, as well as hispanic men. Spike's point was that, like most t.v shows and movies, it does not tell the full story or give accurate repesentation to all. It may not be a big deal to whites, but it does mean alot to people who have actually served and were there, to see people like them in the movie.
And to the loser who compared the holocost to slavery, saying the holocost was worse, is really ignorant. They were both horrible, and slavery was spread out over 400 years and had harsh segregation after that. So to say one is worse then the other is just plain stupid. I also have to raise a big point, I have never heard a black person complain about slavery, but I have heard numerous whites telling us to "get over it", when no one is complaining in the first place. Just because we want accurate history being taught does not mean we are harping on the past, we just want our history to be acurately shown. However the same can be said for hispanics and asians, who actually have it worse then blacks in the movie industry.
