Keira Knightley is in talks to play Eliza Doolittle in the re-make of stage to film classic My Fair Lady.
The studio, Columbia, declined to comment on casting of the project, being produced by Duncan Kenworthy (Love Actually, Notting Hill..fab flicks!) and theater legend Cameron Mackintosh.
According to reports, while it's being called an update, the film will use the original score and retain its 1912 setting.
Where possible, Kenworthy and Mackintosh intend to shoot the film on location in the original London settings of Covent Garden, Drury Lane, Tottenham Court Road, Wimpole Street and the Ascot racecourse.
Keira is no Audrey Hepburn!!!!!!!

I'd hope that they'd cast someone who can actually sing the part. I think Keira might be a better choice than Emmy would be, acting wise… that whole being British thing and all. Emmy was sweet in "Phantom," and she has a nice voice, but I never thought she had the vocal chops to actually be an opera star like she was in the film.
While I'm not crazy that they are going to make a remake, I think Keira would be a great Eliza! Except can she sing???
I just read this on Variety.com. I think she'd be okayas Eliza. We already know she can sing. This movie could never be as good as the original for sure. But I think I'd still enjoy watching them try.

I absolutely adore audrey, but you have to remember, she wasn't able to bring the vocal chops needed for the role, and was recorded over. in my opinion, the ultimate eliza is julie andrews, who originated the role.
i love keira too, but i agree. she doesn't really seem musical material.
the only reason its called 'my fair lady' is coz americans wouldnt understand the 'pygmalion' reference, i hope they keep its original name.

Audrey Hepburn didnt even sing in the original movie and Keira Knightley doesnt have NEAR the acting chops as Audrey Hepburn. Why cant Hollywood leave well enough alone. They are going to butcher this movie like they did when making Sex and the City into a movie.
I like Keira a lot, and think she's a great actress, but come on, you're right Perez, she is just all WRONG for a part like this. Gemma Arterton, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Evanna Lynch, Bonnie Wright…Christ anybody but Keira.

As a regular West End theatre goer, I can firmly say that Keira is NO Eliza Dolittle. Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn can never be replaced. Why are they even doing a remake? The original My Fair Lady is fantastic!

i actually think this is a good choice! what was a bad choice is when jennifer love hewitt actually played audrey hepburn in that made for tv movie that was out a few years ago. talk about horrific. keira seems to actually have the class to carry this role.
