"Tough thing about Broadway is eight shows a week. It's slavery. That needs to be adjusted. It's wrong. Actors work three years straight sometimes with one day off. This exhaustion puts you into depression. Like today [Wednesday] it's two shows. I have to put makeup on, take makeup off. Not like in movies with whole departments to fluff and puff you. In between performances, I have to study with my son, who's taking Bible and guitar. And we're filming this play for the archives. Come 7:30, I have to take another look at the script, get into the mind-set again, then sign autographs, pose for photos with fans and thank them for their attention and for coming. Monday, your one day off, you have to cram in all your meetings and appointments and the rest of your whole life, and hope you can survive on Benadryl. I love what I'm doing. No cameraman's saying, 'Stand here . . . look there.' It's not all done in five-minute takes. Your work has to be inside you. You push beyond your comfort zone. Broadway is an actor's revenge. I couldn't do Broadway again if it's more than five a week. I'd just say no. N-O. Not doing it. I'm not saying it has to be my way. I'm saying they can get somebody else. I always listen. If your point is right, then I will make adjustments. It's not arrogance. It's just that I have to live with me the rest of my life."

Terrance is right, its really demanding to be on B'way. Performs are at their best when they are well rested and relaxed. Eight shows a week is very hard on the body, dancers and actors all have to take are of themselves so that they have a long career. Producers need to treat the performs better! Producers only care about their investors, the performers have to have rights that are protected.
I agree with him completely. Broadway actors are very overworked and many of them underpaid(obviously he's not one of them). That's why people have been striking. They're tired of it.

then don't do it. i hate people that complain, especially w/ all the money he has. a lot of actors never make it to broadway even though that may be their dream. others do broadway because they don't have the opportunities you have & just love being able to work as an actor & support themselves. they bust their ass for 8 shows a week because fans who make actors money want to see the star & they realize how lucky they are. i never liked him. yeah he is a good actor & dresses very well but he is so arrogant.

Yes, Broadway is grueling. But it's where you show your salt as an actor. It proves whether you have the stuff to be a REAL actor. There are no cuts and retakes. It's all live; each and every time. Broadway is REAL acting. Suck it up, or shut up and leave.
If he chooses to never d Broadway again, that's his prerogative and he's free to make that decision. At least he knows his limits, and knows what he is willing and unwilling to do. That's a lot more than many other people who over-commit themselves, especially to roles and duties they're not fit for.
Get over yourself! You are so much more special and delicate than the thousands of actors who would give anything and everything to be in the position and the role you are in.

How about teachers who teach the same subject five times a day, and then the next day they have to teach a whole new thing five times a day, and the next and the next. And there's no one there writing their material, the teachers write their plans. New script every day. And then on weekends, you get to read and correct what you've been teaching all week, so you can do five new shows the next week. Please!!! BTW anybody who needs to go to the movies or shows to get their emotions worked up needs to get a job where that happens for free. Come into my school, talk to any one of the kids, ask them their story and in five minutes you will have a monthful of emotions that don't have to be manufactured by a playwright. Me? I go to the movies to laugh. If I want drama, I ask my students how their weekend was. Those stories are real and full of sadness. Oh..i feel so sorry for him. I live in a part of Texas where it is nothing but industrial. Men here work 7 days a week 10-12 hrs. a day in plants. My grandfather died @ 105, but plowed acres with his mule at 102. Get another line of work…by the way women have to put makeup on everyday and touch it up constantly, so they can represent their company well. Then we go home clean…wash…do homework with kids…cook…etc…etc!
Broadway is VERY grueling……You try to memorize 2 hours worth of lines and songs and positions…then perform 2 times a night…….It looks easy beacuse of the talented actors and actresses!!!

I am a friggin actor- 2 hours of work a day -4 hrs when Iyou've got 2 shows IS NOT HARD WORK. I worked much harder when I had a job in a damn factory. Much as I love him, he's needs to stop being a whiny bitch.
