Very Sick

It's a very sad morning for acting legend Paul Newman.

As we mentioned last month, Newman was said to have been diagnosed and undergone surgery to deal with a terminal type of cancer.

Now, reports are surfacing that Newman is said to be dying of lung cancer.

How truly sad.

Paul is said to have been diagnosed at New York’s Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre, where he is currently receiving outpatient treatment.

Thankfully, he is said to be under the care of a leading oncologist in New York.

The 83-year old chain-smoker and his family have decline to comment.

A close family member was only quoted as saying, “It’s so awful. He’s dying.”

If you don't already know, Newman is the founder of "Newman's Own", which offers various food products, like spaghetti sauce and salad dressing.

The company donates all its earning to charity and with earnings reaching over $100 million since it's creation, Newman has made major contributions to those less fortunate.

Let's send our thoughts and good vibes to the Newman family.

How Sad! What a great person he is. More people should use their celebrity the way he has!

  12. biscba says – reply to this

    get educated, per their website:
Actually, Newman's Own, Inc. makes no gift to charity, but Paul Newman, who receives all the profits and royalties from Newman's Own, Inc., distributes all of that personally to the charities of his choice. Since the inception of the company, it is our understanding that the total amount of those gifts to charity has been approximately $200 million.

  13. karri says – reply to this

wow. thats very sad. i did not know they donate all the earnings to charity. what a good man.

Ok Its Sad hes died and everything.but why is it that people get more sympathy when theyre dead than when theyre alive?? Patrick swayze deserves alot of support because the positive comments and toughts help them feel better even if they arent getting better.

this is man is the best actor that has ever lived. Surely he is not going to be known for salad dressing??????

  17. burrit says – reply to this

perez you're such an arse…. i mean you seem all sweet but then you say "the chain smoker" …unless he has lung cancer, the whole "chain smoker" crap is irrelevant. I hate cigarettes but cut the old dude a break.

I love Paul Newman! I'm sorry he blew his lungs out with nicotine!

  19. Maggie says – reply to this

Oh my goodness, what a sad day indeed. The audacity!
Newman was 100% pure sex God in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Hot damn.
And as Reggie in Slap Shot - classic comedy, ha ha putting a bounty on the head of one of the players.

One of the true greats in H'wood. Class act. Very sad. Best wishes to him & his family.

Scary to think of the current ilk of celebrity; nothing like the legends of the past. Hollywood has gone down the toilet.

I am saddened by the news of Mr. Paul Newman. He is one of my favorite actors- Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is one of my all time favorite movies. He is a beautiful man inside as well as out. He has the most amazing eyes. And somehow every time I hear his voice my heart melts. There are no two better looking men or better actors in Hollywood than Paul Newman and Robert Redford. (For some reason when I speak of them people always comment on my age- I am only 31, I guess they feel I am too young to be fans of these amazing men. Who knows)
My heart goes out to his family and friends. Fight through this Paul. Stay Strong.
And to ELLERYMAE: I too believe smoking is disgusting and awful, but you are a cunt. Have some respect.

  23. nan says – reply to this

the actual article said FORMER chain smoker - I know it's more dramatic when you misquote, but it's wrong!

  24. Rash M says – reply to this

My prayers are with you, Mr. Newman.
    You are a Hollywood icon.

  25. freebi says – reply to this

What is so awful about him dying - he's 83 years old and has lived more in his life than most of us ever will live. When you live to the age of 83, something's gonna get you - whether it be cancer or alzheimers, etc. It comes with the age - and the ones of us that make it that long are going to go through much the same. Hats off to Paul Newman for making it this long. He was a Hottie in his younger days, a great entertainer and gave us something to galk at when at the race track.

  26. yali says – reply to this

The fact that he smokes is irrelevant. Smoking is bad for you, but I'm sure it doesn't define him as a person. I can't believe you stooped to mentioning it in this post.

  27. me says – reply to this

He is NOT a chain smoker. In all the years I have known him he has never smoked.

  35. Virgo says – reply to this

Paul Newman is an all around class act. I adore this guy and wish him all the best.
I wish I could say the same for you Perez, you are being completely inaccurate about a few things today. I don't think he is a current smoker.

  36. BeBe says – reply to this

Handsome, talented like no one else, philanthropic like no one else and also always knew how to live well and be happy! Good luck to a real movie star!

  37. cogrrl says – reply to this

He's also a phenomenal Oscar-winning actor whose work spans over 5 decades. But yeah, the salad dressing, that's what he'll be remembered for. Not Cool Hand Luke or Color of Money, but Lowfat Raspberry Vinaigrette.

  38. Carlie says – reply to this

WHO THE FUCK CARES! He's an old fucking cunt anway. Big deal. I just took a big steaming dump and I dedicate it to Paul and his cunt whore of a wife and daughter. I use Newman's own salad dressing to lube up my own anus and twat before I shove my butt plugs and dildos in. It kind of stings though. Happy Monday! Xoxoxo :) Carlie Gurl from North Long Beach

  39. Mona says – reply to this

Please say it isn't so. He is so talented and sweet!

To 'ELLERYMAE' who says, " I have absolutely no sympathy for smokers. they know fine what it does to them so they deseve it" I have two things to say : 1) Learn how to spell! 2) This kind of RUDE, JUDGMENTAL and compassion-lacking comments are what HATE is all about. Be kind, show a little compassion and when your time comes, as it will come, compassion will be shown to you!

  40. oatcel says – reply to this

Obama is a smoker, too. He can't very well talk about the environment if his OWN BODY means jack to him. What a crappy role model.

  41. Lucy says – reply to this

The life you save will be your own.
There are programs out there that will give you free patches and gum and even drugs to help you quit. Take advantage of the help.

My father died of lung cancer and my mother has COPD and is on oxygen. All because of smoking. This is singularly the most important thing you can do to improve your health and life. Just think of all the extra money you will have too. Cigarettes are expensive.

  42. Maggie says – reply to this

Are "good vibes" more powerful than prayer? I'll certainly be praying for him and his family.

  48. kar says – reply to this

what is wrong with some you people. So what he smoked, it was another time. the article clearly says ex-smoker, and we really do not have confirmation it is lung cancer. Are you just such little people that you have to post such crap to make you crappy lives feel a bit better. where in the fuck is your compassion. this is a guy who at a minimum gave away over $100 million dollars. What have you done Ellemae, have you moved out your mom's basement yet. and Carlie, you are a turd. a big stinking gooey piece of shit. this is the shit that happens when you give the prison population use of the internet.

I want to know who the hell is releasing all of this highly confidential medical information to the public. Medical records and information is my career, and I am disgusted by people who violate confidentiality laws to give out information like this about celebrities–or anyone–to the press.

Nooooooooooo I love Paul Newman!!!!!!! he's supposed to live to 100!! :*( Please get well soon Paul, we need you!

  51. studsy says – reply to this

We just lost our mum to colon cancer; I feel terrible for him and his family, knowing what cancer will put a family through. I wish them all the best, and for the posters who are mad he smoked? Go fuck yourselves, it doesn't matter how anyone gets cancer, the pain and suffering they and their family are going through is what should concern anyone, not "what they deserve".It's too late to argue the right and wrong of health habits. I would love for anyone who thinks Paul Newman 'deserves it' go sit in a hospital room with anyone dying of lung cancer and tell them alllll about how 'they deserve it'.

  52. sasa61 says – reply to this

It is very sad, but please do not blame it on the smoking. Only 20% of smokers actually get lung cancer and over 50% on new cases are in Never smokers or people who quit more than a decade ago. The mortality rate is still at the same level as in the early 1970's - less than 15% live 5 years!

Please stay sympathetic - no one deserves this.

  53. lynne says – reply to this

83 years old and a chain smoker sounds good to me He has lived a long and good life.

I love Paul Newman. So sad …

  57. Christ says – reply to this

How sad. On another note, why can't you just offer sympathy without saying "The 83-year old chain-smoker …". It's very rude and crass. How inappropriate. You didn't say anything about Bo Diddly and his diabetes.Nothing like "The overeating with a poor diet Bo Diddly died.." People who smoke know it's bad. Smoking is still legal, so leave the smoking aspect out of you "well wishes".

  58. sTAR says – reply to this

  59. toopst says – reply to this

I have to say I just returned from the funeral of my grandfather who died of lung cancer, just because they were a smoker (and I am not one) doesn't make the loss any less painful. So Ellerymae, before you open your trap about something you have never experienced, please think twice. Your ignorance is deafening.

  60. Steph says – reply to this

Sniff!! :( The most beautiful Blue Eyes in the world.. My prayer and well wishes to you Sir Paul!!!

Everyone send great vibes to Paul!!!

  61. Jen S says – reply to this

Smokers are not the only people who get lung cancer.

There are 170,000 cases of lung cancer in the United States each year, and 10% of those are found in non-smokers. That's 17,000 people a year just in the U.S. who don't smoke and have a cancer that too many people are unsympathetic about.

Anyone who has ever loved someone who had to go through cancer would never ever say someone deserves it. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

I hope Mr. Newman and his family receive the respect and love and privacy that they deserve during this challenging time.

  62. audrey says – reply to this

toopst: Your grandfather deserved to die! It's a shame that everyone else's insurance have to get increased premiums becuase your grandfather was a STUPID ASS! I hope he suffered before he died!!!!

Paul Newman and his wife Joann woodward are truly 2 of hollywoods last legends and icons. When i was growing up my parents loved Paul so i saw all of his movies at least once and followed his life somewhat. God be with you both in this time of sorrow. Paul lived a long beautiful life and our loss is heavens gain. Joann I'm truly sorry for your pain at losing the love of your life. May god be with you both and guide you through this.. The world loves you both.

  72. Just S says – reply to this

My positive thoughts for Paul have been "tossed" out into the universe, pun intended - [salad dressing]. I also have to say that as ill as he might be and considering his age, Brad Pitt should look as good, but won't. People use the word "icon" far too loosely today - after all, Paris keeps trying to sell us that bullshit line to describe herself, LOL- but Paul Newman is a real American Icon.

  73. Jessic says – reply to this

He's old, he's lived a long and rewarding life with many opportunities the average person never has. I am not sad for him or his family, I guess it's because there are many that never get as far as 83. I personally seen my mother and Aunt bury their sons at the ages of 17 and 21 which is a tragedy. This Paul Newman, is just life.

  74. Stanto says – reply to this

Same thing that happened to McQueen. When these guys started racing the fireproof masks/hoods that they wore were made with asbestos fibers.

  75. hollyw says – reply to this

When someone gets breast cancer or brain cancer or cervical cancer, do you blame them for wearing tight bras, using cell phones or being promiscuous? When someone has diabetes, high blood pressure or a heart attack, do you blame them for eating McDonalds and not taking care of themselves and say they deserve to die? As an earlier poster wrote, 60% of ppl diagnosed with lung cancer are people who NEVER smoked or are former smokers (most of whom quit decades earlier.) 15% NEVER SMOKED. Lung Cancer is the NUMBER ONE cancer killer in the world, killing more people than breast, colon, uterine and cervical combined, yet it receives the LEAST amount of funding. Know why? Because of the vast maority of people who blame the victim, blame the smoker, when NO ONE deserves to get lung cancer, MANY people who get it never smoked, and NO ONE is safe from lung cancer.

  76. Corinn says – reply to this

    He's 83. Everyone dies.

  77. Kelsey says – reply to this

His charitable donations are past the $200 million mark now. It is a very sad day when such a great philanthropist is losing his battle with cancer.

  78. Pffft. says – reply to this

Re: ellerymae – Everyone on here will all die of something. Even YOU. Do they all deserve it too? You sound like a sociopath, or at the very least, an illustration of what people without empathy sound like; nasty, preachy and self-important along with judgemental. On the other hand, I'll bet Paul Newman has hundreds of friends.

  79. Slap. says – reply to this

Re: Carlie – You state "who the f*ck cares". Millions of people care about Paul Newman, that's who. Now as for you, I doubt anyone would even notice you were gone, or care. Some might even be glad.

  80. carrie says – reply to this

  85. M says – reply to this

I am sick to death of when someone gets diagnosed with lung cancer they are immediately labeled as a smoker or ex-smoker, thus basically letting people know that it's their own stupid fault. Not all people who get lung cancer smoked. And not all smokers get lung cancer.

When someone has a heart attack or diabetes or any other cancer people don't blame it on the person. They don't blame the fat person or the person who ate crappy food and processed food or the person who didn't exercise.

The fact is that illness is almost unavoidable. Everyone does something that can supposedly give them cancer. We are all going to die someday. So quit picking on Paul Newman for having smoked. He's lived his life decently and if that was his vice, then so be it. When all of you who have no sympathy due to his smoking get sick someday, let's see how you feel when all of your vices are thrown into your faces by some stupid jerks.

Perez, you DO realize that one must die of something….correct? He's 83 years old for heaven's sake.

  89. Ash says – reply to this

This is really just too sad. Paul is not only an extraordinarily talented actor, but a philanthropic warm-hearted individual as well. His charity is testament to this. I also know Paul - albeit distantly - through a chain of friends and family. During the few occasions in which I have met him he has been nothing short of hospitable and generous. He is truly a wonderful man. I wish both him and his family the best in the struggle they are about to embark upon. My thoughts are with them.

  90. LORDSA says – reply to this

I'm a chain smoker, and I'd be thrilled to live to 83 years old! ellerymae, you can suck my balls- I don't give a shit who you have sympathy for. Prerez- having no sympathy for smokers who get lung cancer is exactly the same as when people say that people who have gay sex deserve AIDS. Both are idiotic statements. Oh, and being a fatass isn't good for you either, Tubby! Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!

Paul Newman is an amazing person. Smoker or not, when you smoke you get addicted. The contributions he has made to society and people all over the world are admirable. His movies=amazing. I remember watching Cool Hand Luke in my high school English class and loving it. That man is PURE CLASS!
All the best to Paul Newman and his family.

  96. Carrie says – reply to this

This is so personally sad for me. He is my very favorite. Truly one in a million, not just in Hollywood, but in the world. The classiest and sexiest there will ever be. But, I hope he is forever remembered for his acting as well as his charity.

And as amazing of a person he is, he was the sexiest in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." If anyone out there who loves Mr. Newman has not seen it, rent it ASAP!

  97. Cathy says – reply to this

My 63 year old non-smoking mom died of lung cancer. Shortly after her death I saw a shirt that read - LUNG CANCER: IT'S NOT JUST FOR SMOKERS ANYMORE. I couldn't have said it better - cancer sucks let's not blame the vicitms, let's increase the funding

  98. Connie says – reply to this

Re: audrey – What is your problem in that you state many times that you hope people suffered as they died of cancer? If it makes your twisted mind feel any better, the majority do. My son works in a major cancer hospital in the city where we live doing post-graduate research into cancer. He sees people on a daily basis who live with the knowledge that they are suffering a terminal disease, undergoing awful treatments such as chemotherapy and very often coping with constant pain. Regardless of whether these people contributed to the likelihood of their developing cancer, or they were "unlucky" and developed it for unknown reasons, they all deserve compassion and support. My own mother died of colon cancer which took 3 years of hell to kill her. Does that give you a thrill? We will all die one day, so I wonder what will be in store for you? You are already one sick lady, but in the mind. EEWWWWWW!

  99. auds says – reply to this

he grew up in an age where smoking was the norm and it's so hard to quit, especially when you've been smoking for decades. poor paul! at least he seems to have lived a full and long life and i hope he's comfortable on his way out!

  100. 100

Honestly, 83 years old is a very long time to live. Combined with the fact that he was a chain smoker-this is inevitable. With all his money, if only he tried to quit earlier.

Don't start smoking ever!! If you do, quit now before it's too late. Lung cancer is extremely painful and a horrible way to go. And it usually ends up in the brain, which is awful.

    Learn from Paul's mistakes!
