Tough Times!

youngfrankenstein.jpg

To keep the show Young Frankenstein on the Great White Way, creator Mel Brooks and billionaire producer Robert F. X. Sillerman have taken the very unorthodox step of asking the show's lead actor to slash their salaries by 50%, according to new reports.

How rude!

The actors, whose contracts are up in August, were told last week that if they want to stay on they need to accept the cut.

To show they're serious the show suits openly met with possible replacements.

Producers not involved in Young Frankenstein call the drastic salary cuts unprecedented.

The actors and their agents are understandably upset about the pay cuts, but unless they get a TV series, they're unlikely to find a job as lucrative as Young Frankenstein–even at half their original salaries.

Decisions! Decision!

if they are true actors, it is about the work not the salary. Suck it up and keep doing the work or quit, pretty simple really.

perez's hot topic line bombed! why don't you write about THAT perez?! or do you not want anyone to know only 6 people showed up and that nobody would take wrist bands from the creepy guy that was desperately trying to hand them out to anyone? Karma sure is a bitch. poor Mario.

Execs are playing hardball. Take it or leave it. The question is, is it really necessitated financially, or is it just a play for a bigger cut, hanging the actors out to dry?

I loved YF, it's such an amusing show. Mel jinxed it by over-hyping it.
I don't see the cast staying after their contracts are up, as they are so insanely talented they probably know to move on to the next thing where they will be appreciated. Sutton Foster's leaving to do the Shrek musical anyway.

I hope they take it. It's an amazing show, and it would be a shame for it not to keep running. The set is incredible!

Doesn't matter much for Sutton, she's already up to be in the musical version of Shrek. But that does suck for all those actors - maybe if tickets to the show weren't so ridiculously high, more people could see it!

  16. C.C. says – reply to this

Does it really matter? The lead actors and those from the first run never usually stay with a production for more than a year or two. It's about time for those actors to move on to other productions, and some C-listers to take their place. Which is a pity, because they have some good people in YF.

Maybe they can get Haylie Duff to do a reality show to replace them?

Megan Mullally already has a tv series pilot so i don't think she'll get to upset by the news

Perez Hilton Bombs at Hot Topic

Perez Hilton may have made it to the top ten of the gossip heap with free publicity from lawsuits, and free appearances on radio and TV shows, but in real life no one cares about him. Last evening Perez held a meet-and-greet at Hot Topic in Hollywood where he was launching his cheap a** clothing line, and NO ONE SHOWED UP!!! HAHAHAH!!!!!!!

A witness who goes by the name Ester said:

"Some freaky lil employee with a handful of wrist bands asked if I wanted to meet Perez Hilton at 6pm! I was like NO, I just ate. NO one wanted wrist bans it was kinda funny."

Besides the embarrassment of having no "real life" fans outside the cyberworld, who launches a clothing line at Hot Topic? That’s trashier than launching a clothing line at Walmart, and yet Perez couldn’t even pull that off. WOW! That’s gotta be a blow to his HUGE ego.

I WAS AT THE SHOW ON FRIDAY JUNE 6TH, NONE OF THE LEAD ACTORS/ACTRESSES WERE IN THE SHOW….COULD THIS BE BECAUSE OF THEIR PAY CUTS????????????????????? I WAS MORE THAN DISSAPOINTED THAT I DID NOT GET TO SEE MEGAN MULLALY!!!! show was still good, however nothing could be better than the movie!!

I paid full price for this show last November, tickets can currently be had for half price. They were expecting another hit like "The Producers". that was so huge it won every theatre award the you had to get tickets months in advance.
Seven months after opening tickets are already at half, no major Tony nominations and a theatre far to big for any show to fill nightly.
A good start would be to move to a smaller theatre and in the future price tickets realistically, don't set the prices so high that they're out of reach for most people.

This entire production was a greed-fest right from the beginning…Brooks knew he could rake it in based on the success of the movie, even though it is now an amputation of the original screen play to fit the confines of a stage production…Mel Brooks used to be a "mensch" until his wife, Ann Bancroft, died…now he's just a money grubbing asshole.

Its no Producers! Quite boring, with few Tony nominations (Igor and Andrea Martin deserved the noms they got but it got virtually no other nods) - so, it not going to keep the business if it can't say "best musical"! (Which I hope goes to Xanadu with my future husband Cheyenne Jackson!- watch out PereZ!)

The fact is that this show is crap. The leads, who are all successful actors, are probably making a bundle and if they want to continue working, take the cut in pay.
