Ginormous basketball star Yao Ming is also big-hearted.

The Houston Rockets center created a foundation with a $2 million donation to rebuild schools devastated by last month's earthquake in his native China, according to reports.

Yao told the press that the Yao Ming foundation will help raise funds to build earthquake-resistant schools in China.

"As everyone knows about the recent tragedy in China, the earthquake tragedy was the worst in history," Yao said. "For this reason, I am working to give back funds."

Since rebuilding will take many years, Yao also said he plans to make further donations and raise public awareness about the earthquake victims.

      it is really inspiring to see someone useing thier celebrity for good. this idea of "fame" is so demented and twisted at times, that it can leave a person feeling very negitively about the entertainment industry in general. Things like this prove that good can come out of fame.

The chinese people have to live with a shitty gov't and deal with a devastating earthquake, and almost daily afterquakes, and they need help. Kind of reminds me of New Orleans, except we have insurance to conteract an uncaring gov't, as inadequate as it sometimes is.

      We saw him at the Cheesecake Factory in Marina del Rey a couple of years ago. My son's friend (9 years old at the time) was a huge fan of this bitch and nicely asked him for an autograph.

Taking joy or at least the "they deserved it" attitude towards the deaths of innocent people, many of them school children is disgusting and deplorable.       Many were found with flashlights and books in their hands - reading until they suffocated and died. Can you imagine the pain their parents and family are going through, especially in a country where people are allowed only one child? You are NO BETTER than that which you hate. Even WORSE, I would say because you have the gall to pretend that you have the moral high ground. So I want to teach you a few things about the US. Basically, we (yes, I am an American) live in country that more or less exterminated the Native Americans, taking their lands and heritage; where slavery was outlawed less than 150 years ago; where racial segregation only ended 40 some years ago, racism persisting to this day.

      And let's not forget the Iraq War, which has resulted in the deaths of over 4,000 Americans and over 50,000 Iraqi civilians and various abuses of sacred rights (coughPatriotActcoughGuantanamoBaycough). All of this is happening before our eyes more or less. So Brahm, while I agree that China has done many, many wrong things that has hurt many many people, I think you should stop and think before you post something like that. And if you happen to be an American, take a good look at your own country first and try to do something there first.
