Paul Newman shows how philanthropy should be done.

According to reports, the ailing legendary actor turned over the entire value of his ownership in Newman’s Own — the company that makes salad dressing and cookies — to charity.
The turnover was completed over a two-year period in 2005 and 2006.
The total amount of his donations to Newman’s Own Foundation Inc. comes to $120 million.
The source also reports that the actor personally gave away $8,746,500 in 2006 to a variety of groups that support children, hurricane relief in the Gulf Coast, education and the arts.
Such a class act.

I often wonder what celebrities do with all their money. How much shit does a person really need? Bravo to Mr Newman for being so generous and doing it quietly! I don't doubt the good intentions of celebs like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, but such public generosity can seem insincere, even if it's not.

What amazing human beings he and Joann have been all these years. He had spent his youth in the lime light and in turn has given everything back. We could all learn something from people like him.

guess what? we have no idea what a lot of other celebrities donate to charities. not all of them speak about it. So now are we just assuming that most don't donate a lot of money since they don't speak about it? Then if they did speak about it and promote it, people would take issue with that and think they were just doing it for the publicity. No one can win! Mr. Newman lives in my town (Westport, CT) Whoot! And he is extremely nice and so are his daughters. Modern Hollywood in itself is so trashy. Hollywood has really lost it's class.

I've always admired the Newmans for the anti-Hollywood lifestyle, far away from LA-LA land. I'm sure that has helped their marriage and their ability to lead quiet, semi normal lives. They had some tough times with some of their children, as most couples do, but they have stayed together through it all. And "Newman's Own" products/charity work? Just tremendous. Yes, if only everyone's surplus funds could be put to such great work. He also has a private camp for disadvantaged kids called "Hole in the Wall."

This isn't breaking news, this has been known since before he did it. Maybe you should start paying closer attention to the older celebrities before something huge happens to put them in the spotlight again. 10 to 1 if he wasn't battling a terminal illness you would have classified him as Z list. They say first impressions never fade, that is true in this case. However, what he has done with his name, fame, family and foundation have set the gold standard for excellence and a high stature that is Earned in life. I cant wait to go out and buy me some Newman's Own, knowing ALL the proceeds go to where they should. I wish I could say the same about my taxes, then I might even feel ok about those. This is a wonderful thing. He's a great example of the celebrities that don't need to publicly announce their charity work for publicity. There are a lot of examples of celebs that do it because it's the right thing to do, not because it would help clean up their image or distract the press from their bad deeds in their personal lives, unlike Brad and Angelina. This actor, unlike those two, doesn't feel the need to talk about what he does in every single interview and doesn't suspiciously always have a camera crew videotaping his acts of philanthropy. There are several celebrities that are just as popular, famous, and equally hounded by the press and paparazzi as Brad and Angelina are, that also do charity work and are occasionally photographed doing it. Yet Brad and Angelina never fail to have their charity work caught on film. They often are seen in the most remote and adandoned places and yet there are always the most elaborate photops of them doing their so-called charity work. I find that very interesting. Yes, paparazzi often spend money traveling overseas to get such photographs, but with Brad and Angelina it's unusually over the top. It screams b.s and pr tactics to me.
