Rupert Everett issued an apology on Monday for the idiotic statements he made about current British service people being whimps in a Sunday Brit newspaper.
In an interview to publicize his new film, The Victorian Sex Explorer, he had said: "The whole point of being in the Army is wanting to get killed, wanting to test yourself to the limits. Now you have to fly 15,000ft above the war zone to avoid getting hit. I don't think there is any point in having wars if that's how you're going to behave. It's pathetic. All this whining!…The whole point of being in the Army is going to war and getting yourself blown up. That and p—ing on prisoners. Yet we all get shocked by Abu Ghraib."
But, on Monday, he issued a lengthy statement apologizing "without reserve" to the "many in this country, and hundreds and thousands of others across the world who have lost their brothers and sisters, their fathers and mothers to the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and all the countless others".
Everett explained he made his remarks to compare war now to war in Victorian times, saying, "I compared his longing to get into battle to the way we engage in war today. Then death was glorious. Today it is what it really is. Each and every death is a terrible tragic loss."
Another actor, another stupid comment outta the mouth.
We're not sure why Rupe apologized, though. It's not like he's actually got a thriving career he's trying to protect!

I watched the Victorian Sex Explorer last night. In Cairo, Rupe gets a massage from a man who asks him if he wanted a 'hard sex massage' (fucking) or 'soft sex massage (masturbation). Sadly, Rupe declined, though he said he had nothing against sex massges or 'happy finishes'. He also seems to think that everyone is gay - some comment about 'well, faced with a nice lubed-up bumhole, you would, wouldn't you, even if you were straight.' Er, no, Rupe.
By the way, Perez - Holy Moly is reporting that Madge has called in a divorce lawyer. Why no word from you?
What an asshole…just because the British don't have the same agenda doesn't make them cowards. They were attacked as well in their home country…they went to war, defended their honor and now they are basically done. The did what they felt they needed to do, they don't want the oil/petrol nor do they have past grudges against any of these Middle Eastern leaders…good for them, I actually feel bad that they are our allies and had to really get involved.
I don't think his comments were all that stupid.
And in my humble opinion,
While it's terrible that soldiers (and families) are lost in war - on ANY side - anyone who joins the army without expecting that he/she could potentially be killed is making a big mistake.
And let's face it: While most men and women join the military to fight a battle for personal freedom and ideals, or the ideals of their particular country or religion, there are indeed some men and women who join the army so they CAN exercise their "right" to kill others. (The "gung-ho" factor.) And "whining" about getting killed, or losing family members is bound to happen, because that is WHAT WAR IS.
Wars are BEGUN by men behind desks wearing fancy suits for tons of money.
Unfortunately, wars are FOUGHT by people who kill or get killed. Plain and simple.
Until humanity realizes this, we will continue to "lose" our brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, because those who pick up a gun and learn how to kill someone with it cannot whine about being shot at.
And if one wants to sob at the loss of their son or daughter, one must also realize that their son or daughter has probably caused the same loss on another continent. Period.
P.S. And as a student of history & psychology, and an ex-member of the Canadian Armed Forces, (honourable discharged due to illness) I speak of this from experience. War kills people. People pick up guns to kill people. War furthers agendas. War protects and defends.
But in war, there is death.

Do you really man the 'we' who defeated the nazis are the same 'we' who defeated the British in the War of Independence - - ie the Americans? Honey, you need to learn some history. The Nazis were defeated by the Allies, not just the Americans - that's a shed load of countries - America, Britain, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, the list goes on. All together, allid. as a student of history and war studies i have to agree with rupert. 100 years ago men were forced to fight against their will in diabolical conditions, but they did it because it was expected of them. soldiers nowadays CHOOSE to fight and complain when get called out to war. soldiers i know see it as a steady, easy job. it's terrible that so many get killed, but every time you hear of a young man getting killed in his CHOSEN line of duty in iraq, remember the 1.2 million conscripts who were killed or injured on the somme.

Like it or not, the man made a good point. The people the US military is recruiting are not always the most mature. My family has a Corps background and I have seen it for myself how some of those young men behave. They are kids, fresh out of high school with no manners and no respect.

Yes, it's also true that when New York was attacked, after that, the whole fucking nation (or just about) wanted to blow up somebody, anybody. I have NO issue with his statement. In fact, he needs to take it much further. Rupert has clued into the fact that we are raising nations of sissies. Kids are GIVEN things by a two or single parent household working outside of the home. In order to assuage their guilt the parents give their children video games, cell phones and overly scheduled playdates and athletic activities where the parents hoover and run to solve any rising conflict. The result is that children are lacking the skill set to solve life's problems without the help of mommy and daddy. Do you feel comfortable knowing that they are inheriting the running of a nation? I don't, after all, mommy and daddy litigate all their problems away now if something is the LEAST bit OFFENSIVE to them. How will the future change that fact?
