Ingrate or Honorable?

An actor that doesn't want an award???
Shocking!!!
The LA Times says that when Grey's Anatomy's Katherine Heigl was asked why her name is not on the TV academy's list of Emmy contenders, she issued this statement:
I am truly grateful for the honor that the Academy bestowed upon me last year. I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the Academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention. In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials.
Some have said that Heigl's right on — her Grey's material did suck this year.
We don't watch the show. We wanna know…is she right and was this an 'honorable' thing for her to do cuz it leaves the field open to more 'deserving' actresses?
But, if she did have shitty material, was it right for her to call out the writers and show suits like she did?
Another theory is that she just forgot to submit her name for Emmy contention and she didn't want to admit it.
Does she think she's above the Emmys????
What do U think?

Tough one…I think I side with her, though…if they gave other people better material than herself, for one reason or another, then–
she can do what she wants
firstttt!! LOVE her anyway

and yaa
You don't watch Grey's Anatomy? Really? I'm curious as to why not.
And no she definitely was not given the material this year, not that it's necessarily a bad thing just previously her character was going through a lot of emotional issues that Katherine portrayed very well.
Katherine Heigl is total class. She is correct in her assessment of the Grey's material this year. She is very honorable.
love the show, yes she did suck this year….1st?
Good for her!!
I think she is classy and I agree with her fully.
But sometimes she's a bitch….

DAMNED writers stike screwed up everything. IZZIE (her on screen character) was boring as hell this season.
Good for her to withdraw her name and let someone else get the glory.
Gey's Anatomy sucked so bad this season, I made my DVR stop recording it. As for Katherine, she is so annoying and full of herself, i wouldn't be surprised if she thought she was above the Emmy's
I'm an avid Grey's Anatomy watcher, and to be quite frank, ever since the first & second seasons, it has been a pretty bland show. I don't believe that Katy got enough of an opportunity to shine, so I agree with her full heartedly.
I think it’s an honorable thing though should have been worded differently. It should be “my performance” not “my material.” That is a slap in the face to the writers. I good enough actress will turn crap in to gold.
What do I think? I think you're an asshole, P-boy
I think Katherine did the honorable thing to withdraw her name from this year's Emmys. Personally, I have not seen the show since the second season when it began to go down hill, but the few times I watched ten minutes of an episode, I was disappointed with the performances and the substance.
whatever she wants
I think it's stupid that actors/actresses have to submit their own names to be considered for an Emmy. I guess that award isn't really an "honor" to win because you nominated yourself.
She is so done with that show. I have to say, that is pretty big talk pointed at the writers/creators. THAT SAID, I think she always has balls and that she is a hot tamale! Cheers to folks with STANDARDS!
This girl is such a class act .
She would not do anything to intentionally diss or hurt anyone that has not provoked such.
I believe her intentions regarding this matter are sincere and good.
Didn't she do CPR on a deer or some stupid shit like that. You tell me, is that good writing??
I love her!
I side with Katherine. I watch the show and while she is a great actress, her material was not that great. I dont think its a slam against the writers either. She just was not a main focus this season, and with the strike i think they had to concentrate on bigger story lines
Jordan is the shiz
Her stuff was pretty bad this season. I think it is right to call out the writers because the rest of us would also get called out if we weren't doing our jobs well
She's awesome, she's just pointing out the bullshit that is acting awards.
She's HONORABLE most def! She iz most def a class act! But I feel liek being the lowlife I am so I'ma say STUCK UP BITCH! And WTF Perez, nONE of my comments have been showing up!
I think this is her way at getting back at her Grey's Anatomy staff members. Didn't she get denied when she wanted to get out of her contract earlier this year or last?
QUENTIN TARANTINO IS ONE HOT MAN
i love katherine heigl but what an insult to the writers. she should not have called them out like that it is so rude. she could have said she didnt perform to emmy standards or something else
She is right. Her story line was not that great this season. Good for her!
shit perez you love spinning those stories, your almost as bad as fox news hahaha love it
I think she only ment it good. She is a great woman, and she´s sooo cool!!
FIRST
Ingrate! obviously her peers saw somehting she didn't. I hope she is never nominated for ANYTHING ELSE!!
FIRST!! I think it's awesome! You go, smokey and the bandit!
Her character on Grey's this season was not very significant. So I would definitely say it was an honarable decision she made. Although it does sound kinda cocky…
i'm thinking ingrate. in fact, i'm thinking stinkin diva ingrate. she's irritating, like fingernails on a chalk board irrating!!! get ova yourself hun….
She's way cool
Sounds a bit cheesy and like she is trying to hard to sounds honorable. Oh well. Next topic…..
I like her more and more everyday. Seems to be very classy. And she looks soooo gorgeous there.
Yeah she didn't get any big storylines this year after the Gizzie disaster as well as Denny trauma. Still, she did fine with the material she got - I just hope she didn't offend Shonda.
However, the other actresses, especially Ellen Pompeo and Chandra Wilson have both been outstanding so deserved the material I suppose..
She "saved" a dying deer in the last season's Grey's…. not exactly award winning material.
Awh! That was nice of her…
I believe when she won the emmy it was for the post Denny Izzy. This year Izzy isn't as intense, there are other more important and crazy storylines. I think she actually has a sense of decency, so good for her.
I think she is being bitchy. Although Grey's did suck this season, it is pretty ballsy to call the writers out like that.
Her material did suck this year, so good for her for realizing that. Not sure if blasting her writers in a statement was the best idea, though.
i agree with her. Dr. Izzy wasn't given any new cases or interesting situations to deal with.
I remember Candy Bergen doing this, but only after she *won* five times, to make space for others.
Very odd stuff. It would be like… me… pre-emptively declining an award… I may not even be nominated for? Odd.
What's unambiguous is the jab. She says flat-out that the material she was given was lacking. That's… what is that? That's an insult to a team that… kinda made her who she is. Dozens upon dozens of writers. Yeah, I don't like it.
I think she was smart enough to realize that she got a lot of celebrity attention this year, and wanted other meritous people to get awards if they deserved it. Actors also know when their roles have been a bit of a yawn.
She didn't deserve the emmy she won in the past anyway. Chandra and Sandra are MUCH better actresses than she is. The problem is…they aren't white and blonde.
As a big fan of grey's her material really was awful this year especially when you compare it to the last few years - (Denny stuff). Even more odd is after she won an emmy her role on the show was greatly reduced. I think that this was honorable yet also a f*** you to her show as she supposedly wants to leave to focus on the movie career.
her character on greys was just too damm annoying for me. I couldnt be happier that she isnt a contender.
Her storyline wasn't good. It wasn't her fault but still, it does show integrity.
She seems pretty honest and I admire her position. It may not be the best career move, but in the end, will we remember her for being nominated, or for saying, "hey, reward me for my good work and not for the bad"?
This season wasn't really about her character "Izzy"–like in past seasons–She was the only one with solids storylines (circa season 2/3.)
They began to build more on characters that haven't quite had their time yet. I think she is for real in withdrawing and should be applauded for some class.
:)
Grey's this season has been playing off Heigl's commercial success like "knocked up" and "27 dresses" and has been taking her character down a path that doesn't line up with prior seasons. They gave her character a goofiness and slap stick quality that doesn't match the show. And yes.. the overall vibe of Grey's this season has been disappointing.
first! Kath's comments are a bit of a backhand slur arent they, with the writer's strike etc? did Kath give writers credit when she won last year?
honorable
i agree with her
I think that once you win and award for playing a role, you should not be allowed to win the same award again for playing the same role. This way more deserving people will win and not the same people year after year.
I think it was honorable. This seasons Greys Anatomy sucked. the fault lies with the writers. Fucking Hollywood… I'm sure the writers get paid just fine but NO they have to go on a stupid "strike" and cause great actresses like Katherine Heigl to feel like they have failed their viewers.
Personally i am a HUGE fan of Grey's Anatomy… the writes strike ruined this season.. it was like watching a new episode every 3 weeks so half the time i fuckin missed one! GAY! GAY! GAY! in the words of Perez…
You go Katherine Heigl make it public that the writers for ABC are fucking whiny bitches who choose to ruin a moment in television history (dramaization! haha) just to protest for more money as if driving to work in their freshly detailed corvettes isn't a good enough life style for them….
Vent Session Complete
So ungrateful. The "Grey's" writers made her the big name she is and she gives the show no respect at all.
Good for her. Most famous women are self righteous cunts. Think Avril Lavigne or Paris Hilton would give up a chance for recognition?
She is being an ingrate but Grey's sucked bad this year. Her character what was up with her going from heartbroken to breaking up George's marriage.
I agree with her that the material did not warrant a nomination. But I think it's a bad move to call out the writers like that. Why would they want to give her good material if she says things like that?!
Honorable.
she forgot to submit her name
She's right on. Last season, her story line with Denny/George called for amazing and challenging acting. This season, her character hasn't really been given a chance to truly act. Hopefully the writers will work on this next season.
i think she is calling out the writers so that they will get mad and kill her off or something. this means she will be able to concentrate on her films and get out of the grey's contract that she has so disparately been trying to.
Izzie became a whore and annoying… she used to be my fave and now she blows.
YWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhh
I dont watch the show, I wouldnt know this woman if I passed her on the street, but I would like to say how refreshing this is, if true. Nice to see there is someone left in Hollywood without an ego the size of Mount Everest. Her lack of self-entitlement is a lesson that so many need to learn.
