Just when you thought Hollywood couldn't get any sillier, it does.
Turns out Cheeta the chimp wants to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Well, not Cheeta exactly, but his handlers do.
Cheeta has appeared in several acting roles such as 1967's Dr. Doolittle and in the Tarzan movies, of course.
This chimp is a legend!
This will be the 7th time his handler's will be trying to get a star for Cheetah. Team Chimp have even launched an online petition to get supporters to urge the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to grant a star for him in 2009.
The petition states that Cheeta's "inclusion on the Hollywood Walk of Fame will not only give recognition to one of the international, animal megastars of all time, but focus attention on his fellow primates in the wilds of Africa who now face extinction."
Well, why not?
Three stars on the Walk of Fame already belong to dogs, such as Lassie.
Why not a monkey????
This is chimp discrimination!!!!!!
Oh, and there's also some fictional characters with their own stars, such as Godzilla, Snow White, Woody Woodpecker, Kermit the Frog, and Mickey Mouse.
Cheeta is real, bitches!
Ana Martinez-Holler, a spokeswoman for the Chamber of Commerce, said Cheeta's going to be "up against really big celebrities" for next year's nominations.
There's about 200 entertainers to consider each year, with only 24 being chosen.
Cheeta is currently 76 years old and holds the Guinness World Record for the oldest living, non-human primate.
It would be nice if he received one while he's still alive.
Please, if David Hasselhoff has a star, Cheeta definitely deserves one!

Chimps should not be in films. Giving cheeta a star would only encourage chimps in films, and thus abuse of chimps. Chimps are taken from there mothers as babies, and by the time most reach their teenage years they become too big and strong to "handle", so they ship them off to cheap zoos, or other deplorable holding facilities. These animals are not treated with any kindness or respect. Their gentle spirits are broken in order to get them to do cute tricks from tv and film.
The trainers should not get a star on the hollywood walk of fame, they should be jailed for animal cruelty.

Perez - dude. Chimps are NOT monkeys, they are APES. I know you made fun of John Mac for "not wanting to pullout" but you should know the difference between a chimp and a monkey. Aside from a thumb, the lack of a tail makes CHIMPS Apes.

Actually, Chimpanzees live about 60 years in captivity; their life span in the wild is only about 35-40 years (like most animals, they live much longer in captivity).
Hey if they give these stars to all of the above named idiots, they should take into consideration giving Cheeta one now. My god if Lassie has one and not to mention that big tool Hasselhoff, Cheeta deserves one more. Give Cheeta his Star on the walk of fame!!!!
He should get a star. I almost cried when I found out he was still alive. The first movie I ever went to see was Dr. Dolittle and I remember himin the film. He's a star, human or not! He's a part of my movie history as well. Wow, he outlived all of his co stars! I signed the petition and am probably going to buy one of his paintings (benefit animal welfare).

What Perez forgot to mention is that Cheeta the Chimp also edits and spell checks this blog.
Why the hell not, he's more talented than half the "actors" in Hollywood. Besides, he made a boatload of cash for the studios, and that means more than anything in the industry. (He's a chimp, so he's great ape, like people, rather than a monkey.)

baby chimpanzees are taken away from their biomedically researched chimp parents in labs…or they're smuggled from Africa, taken from a loving nuclear family that was slaughtered in the jungle (…as many as 15 chimpanzees die for the sake of 1 being captured)… as few as 80,000 total are left in the wild to this date…why would we want to endorse giving a streetside award so meaningless to a chimpanzee who deserves so much more (ie his family back)?

To think that some untalented, unintelligent so-called "stars" have received more recognition than an incredible performer like Cheeta is disheartening. Denying Cheeta the chance to be recognized only serves to make the committee that decides who gets a star look like the real "animals." Cheeta has had a far more prolific career than others that have been honored, which is an egregious wrong. I say, show some love for Cheeta!!!
