This is truly amazing!
Some more changes are taking place in Cuba - for the better.
The newest development is pushing the country towards more of a capitalist state!
Cuba is set to abolish their equal pay system and will allow for workers to earn performance bonuses.
The average worker in Cuba earns about or less than $20 a month, with everyone making around the same salary - a system that was put in place back in 1959 during the communist revolution.
Can U live on just $20 a month????
According to Cuban officials, the new wage system should improve production and services, since the current one has removed all incentives to excel due to everyone earning the same regardless of performance.
Workers will receive a minimum 5% bonus for meeting targets and will have no ceiling on salaries.
As for managers, they could earn a 30% bonus if their team increases production as well.
A rep for the government said "It's harmful to give a worker less than he deserves, it's also harmful to give him what he doesn't deserve."
Wow.
And it just took 50 years to realize that?????

That's one of the problems with communism…this idea of economic equality. There is no incentive to perform better than others. Rights of the workers, my ass. Get paid for your performance. If others can't work at your level, screw them.
Let's hope that Cuba will finally be open to Americans. If you want to bring down communism in Cuba, get some crazy kids and Spring Break down there. That's the ticket.

I honestly do not know where you are getting your facts (lies) that cuba is getting any progress. Because there is NO progress but just lies that Raul and the government are trying to let the U.S. believe so that they will lift the embargo, and allow more money to be sent to cuba. Porque my parents family members that are living there now as recent as 2 weeks just came back and they reported that its still the SAME cuba as its always been. They allow cell phones but they are no towers!!! computers but no internet! and not to mention the inhumane ways they treat homosexuals. so no Mario there is NO progress. Maybe your too far out west to sympathize with us here in miami. So please YOU of all people should understand and realize that cuba is far from being "progressed"

Even though I realize this is your blog and as such entitles you to your own opinon I find your posts in regards to Cuba incredibly biased. Capatalism is not the pinnacle of economic existence nor has it ever proven entirely beneficial to the West.
Obviously the vast majority of readers of this site have little knowledge of the revolution or Cuba's history in general (specifically Tyler) or they would have a quite different opinon of Che.
While I applaud your movement towards posting political news on your site, I also fear for those who use this website as their only source of news.

What would you have our economic system run by? The USA no longer reflects true capitalism, but some bastardized version, why else would you see the Gov bailing out companies left and right (auto/airlines etc), as well as private citizens (like idiots who didn't know what an ARM was and how it would effect their monthly mortgage). Where are your facts supporting that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer? The US has actually seen an increase in middle class to upper middle class. There are, unfortunately about 17% of US children living in poverty…why? Maybe because of too many single parent head of households and unplanned pregnancies.

Just google 'countries with universal health care' and look at the map to see who it IS working for. Then look and see who the countries are that DON'T have it that the U.S. is lumped in with.
