Top Chef, Jr.

topchef.jpg

Top Chef Junior is in the works at Bravo!

The spinoff to Top Chef will feature teenage competitors aged 13 to 16.

Looks like the popularity of the original Top Chef with kids prompted the move to create a show featuring teens.

The last season of Top Chef ranked in the top 15 shows among kids/teens 2-17.

There's no word as to when the show is scheduled to premiere.

So odd! What's the appeal of Top Chef to the tweens???

Now that's an odd idea; a blogging queen who decides that his opinion on divas is going to make good tv - the show was a FLOP!!!……………………………………………………Not to mention his hideous clothing line, desperate radio show and the hyprocritical advertising that's infected his site! americans kids (sadly) are bunch of fatties… fat kids like food… its not a stretch to see why this Top Chef is popular with the tween.

seriously, i drive by a school on my way to work… holy shit balls, its not like it was when i was in school. in my school there was like one fat girl and one fat little boy, who sadly got teased mercilessly. now its like 8 out of 10 kids that are obese!

A lot of younger people are interested in cooking. It's fun and has some delicious results after all.

      Perez,

My 12 year old loves cooking shows.
She loves Top Chef, Rachel Ray, Iron Chef… You name it.
She watches Food Network by choice.

Of course, she also loves the "tweeny shows" (even the "evil" Hannah Montanna"), and let's not forget Project Runway (HUGE fan of Christian).

But yes, the cooking shows are a hit with the young-uns.

    36. ness says – reply to this

      36

only because the tweens are smoking pot and catching themselves watching food and competitions like realword, road rules BS whatever happened to road rules any way. Mixing both competition and food you got a hit with the stoners and stay at hom kids with no lives.

Liking eating and cookings has nothing to do with being fat; plenty of people love to eat good food and love to cook and are thin. Look at Japan. People there are more obsessed with food than Americans and they have many more cooking shows or segments on their stations than we do. And Japanese are, overall, very thin people.

Perez: what is wrong with you today? boy trouble? so negative….. top chef is a great show. especially for kids. it promotes healthy competition, passion for a chosen profession, and excellence and pride in one's work. why are you so surprised that kids respond to that? have you no faith in our youth? should they all be watching TMZ and every piece of crap mtv puts out? News flash, the world is not made up entirely of young people who's every thought revolves around LC or what kind of adult diapers madona is wearing.

I'm a teen Top Chef watcher. I can't even explain the appeal. I guess it's just a break from most other stuff I like.

But, seriously. Top Chef Tween? Sounds good to me. Wholesome, appropriate, interesting, might even get kids cooking (and more aware of what they eat, junk food wise). I can't find a downside.

I love Top Chef. My kids (10 & 8) love it also.
It could be good - good way to get kids interested in culinary arts, pay more attention to what is in th food that they eat, etc.
But on the other hand - could be very bad. I know that there is NO way they can hold teens to the same standards as they do the adult contestants. I'm just hoping they don't dumb it down too much, which they probably will.

Can't wait for Wedding & Restaurant Wars.

uhhhhhh, 13 to 16 years old makes you a TEEN, not a tween. Tweens are 8 to 12, because they are beTWEEN being little kids and being teens. Any age with TEEN in the number (thirTEEN, fourTEEN, fifTEEN, sixTEEN) is a TEEN. Duh.

i love Top Chef, i have been watching it since the first season. The show has a gravity that pulls me in, along with many other teens. At first, i thaught i was the only kid at my school who watched it, but then when i asked kids if they watched it, a lot of them had seen it before. I have been cooking since i was 12 ( i am now 16). I have trained in France, and i won a cooking competition in my school, ansd in a worcester county competition. All i do now is cook and watch cooking shows. I would fuckin love to try out for top chef jr. Just imagine all the bad ass chefs you'd be able to meet; Anthony Bourdain, Ming Tsai, Tom Himself, Rocco Dispierto, Tod English. WOW! I would absolutely shit on fools if i joined. I think it would be a great idea for a show. And fuck all the people who doubt teen cooking abilities, just cuz u douche bags cant cook deosnt meen a kid cant. Im better than my culinary instructor( not to toot my own horn)… so shut your mouths.
Peace!…. future top chef jr winner.
