No wonder Nicole Richie was trying to hide behind her friend - her hair was a hot mess yesterday.

The new mom took a break from baby to indulge in a little shopping with a friend Wednesday on Melrose.

A visit to the hair salon might be good too!

But, hey, at least she's looking healthy and happy these days!

It is very normal for you to lose a lot of hair…esp. at 3-4 months postpartum. Mine came out by the fistful each time. Give her a little break.

Or, of course, alopecia. Which is a horrible, horrible 'illness' and is triggered neither by pregnancy nor diet. It just happens and most doctors have no real idea as to what causes it ('stress' is the keyword, but I suffer from it and I sure as hell am not, and never have been, stressed).

I'd assume in Miss Richie's case, her scalp is patchy because the weight of extensions may well have damaged or pulled a lot of it out.

She looks fantastic though, and her daughter is adorable.

It's normal to loose a lot of hair during and after pregnancy.
So I don't think her hair is in "bad" condition. Could have better, but nothing terrible imo.

Acutally it looks like what most moms go through, after you have a child around 4 months your pregnancy hair starts to fall out, thats it, the lush hair you grew while pregnant now seems to fade..super normal and happens very often to mothers. Once it falls out new hair will grow in its place.

I hate how people are like "hair extensions look so fake"! Hello, when the extensions look natural/good, YOU CAN'T TELL! So you automatically assume it's their real hair… and then when you see someone with bad extensions, thats the only time you know someone has extensions (unless they tell). So of course everytime to notice someone has extension is when it's bad.
