The Office Spinoff Coming Together

Details about The Office spinoff are still under wraps but Variety reports a few bits of information that fill in some of the blanks!

The entertainment industry's trade rag says it's looking more likely that the show may not be a spinoff in the traditional sense.

It also states that it's unlikely that at least one Office character will segue to the new show, despite early reports stating otherwise.

Instead, the show could potentially be a "planted spinoff," in which characters are first introduced on The Office before moving on to the new series.

It's just as possible that the show won't be a spinoff at all (which could impact who's involved with the show), but a wholly separate series in the same comedic vein as The Office.

The producers have also made their first 'hire' for the 'spinoff' — Aziz Ansari of MTV's sketch comedy Human Giant.

    can't say that i'm excited yet since its still very up in the air as to whether its a spin off or not. If they introduce characters on the Office, which is a show that I love, and they are funny then maybe i'll tune into this new show that has no name or any actors in it that i've heard of….I hope they don't take any characters from the office because i would be devastated and more angry than excited about it!!

    Let's be real… The Office is struggling itself to keep up its freshness and quality. Do they really need to put waning energy into a spin-off? And shouldn't the spin-off come naturally, not needing a bunch of thinking in order to make it happen? If a spin-off were meant to be, then it should come naturally.

    The Office used to be amazing each and every week. Now it has its off weeks, sometimes crossing over into the completely unbelievable (even by the show's loose-reality standards). Let's focus on the mother ship and then spin-off once it seems to come about naturally.

    The executive producers of the show were announced. Greg Daniels; the inventor of the American office and Mike Schur a writer in The Office are going to be two executive producers for the spin off. Also, it is rumored that Rashida Jones may be in the spin off but that has not been confirmed. Just a little more info from an office geek :p
