On Friday, Oscar winner Kevin Spacey was named Professor of Contemporary Theater at Oxford's St. Catherine's College.
Fancy school!
In a statement, Spacey said he was delighted to be appointed to the one-year post, which requires him to give lectures, workshops and seminars.
"It really is an honor for me to have been invited to follow such illustrious names and take up this role at Oxford," he said. "The university is steeped in tradition and has a great heritage in the arts, and I look forward to working with the students and staff."
Like Bryan Singer, Spacey's a total chicken hawk.

Not as big a deal as you would think. Oxford University is made up of smaller colleges. Some better than others. Christ Church is the big prestigious one, St Catherine's not so much. It was founded in 1962.

a fellow pepperdine student i went to london with was being harrassed by kevin after we met him backstage at one of his stage performances. gosh, kevin kept calling the london pepperdine house (in kensington) looking for my friend for days. all 20 of us students that school quarter could vouch for this…sleazy if you ask me.
yeah, it's not like it's even a big secret. I saw him a couple of times at the Pit (the bar in the lower level of the old vic theatre in london) where he spent most of the evening chatting up young looking dudes. Everyone there knew he was gay, I don't think he really even hides it.

2. It is not, was not, and never has been, and all girls college.

Actually, St Catherine's is not and never has been a women's college; the architecture is modernist and it doesn't have the ancient history of Christ Church or Magdalen. But that's probably why Mackintosh chose to host the chair at Catz.
Admittedly, recent holders have scraped the barrel somewhat: Tim Rice was a recent holder. Basically Cameron rings round his friends every year to see who's available. Presumably Kevin Spacey has been too busy - or in the US - up till now.

Thanks for the correction! There are so many colleges that make up the University, I just hate when people refer to it as "Oxford" it's really so different than our American Universities.
