Banned! The Catholic Church Hates Tom Hanks!

Filed under: Film Flickers > Mel Gibson > Tom Hanks

tomandron.jpg

Looks like nice guy Tom Hanks and director Ron 'Opey' Howard couldn't charm their way into the hearts of Rome's Catholic diocese.

Rome church officials have banned the crew of Hanks' latest film, Angels & Demons, from filming in two of the city's churches.

Angels & Demons is the 'prequel' to the blockbuster The Da Vinci Code.

The Da Vinci Code book and flick angered many Catholics across the world.

According to a diocese spokesman, the movie's filming requests were turned down because the movie "does not conform to our views." said Monsignor Marco Fibbi, a spokesman for the diocese.

The source reports that calls to Sony Pictures (the studio in charge) in London and Rome were not immediately returned Monday.

Too bad super Catholic Mel Gibson isn't a producer!

What hat did you pull Mel's name out of, if THE CHURCH feels it does not confirm to there views they have every right to not let them film there. Tom and Howard will find another way…let it be. Any other faith would be left alone.

The Catholic churches are considered sanctified Houses of God, not the house of profit or Hollywood movie sets. They should have offered them more money for charitable purposes, religious differences aside; not that it would gaurantee a change of mind. Catholics are quite tolerant of other spiritual views outside of their own faith, but don't mess with their churches.

Maybe it's Tom Hanks and Ron Howard who hate Catholic church if they decided to make a movie based on this crap book.

Btw I wonder if organisers of the Love Parade in Berlin would agree to use this event to make a movie showing that homosexuality is dangerous and disgusting sexual deviation?

I assume Perez you would be all in favour of free speech and would support such an idea, right?

Im pretty sure that Mel Gibson's sect of Catholicism (the one his father believed in and that Mel was baptized in) is not in league with the Church of Rome/Vatican. His sect- Sedevacantists believe that every Pope since Pius XII is a fraud. Benedict wouldnt have approved of the filming if Mel was the director either.

    54

To all you Catholic haters out there…check out what they do in the world. What do you do, if anything?

Do you know - the Catholic Church educates 2.6 million students everyday at the cost to your Church of 10 billion dollars, and a savings on the other hand to the American taxpayer of 18 billion dollars. Your graduates go on to graduate studies at the rate of 92%, all at a cost to you. To the rest of the Americans it's free.

The Church has 230 colleges and universities in the U.S. with an enrollment of 700,000 students. The Catholic Church has a non-profit hospital system of 637 hospitals, which account for hospital treatment of 1 out of every 5 people - not just Catholics - in the United States today.

Mel Gibson isn't Catholic.. he's Dopus-Day, which is right up there with Scientology as far as the "what the hell are you thinking" factor goes. I understand why the church would want to keep a hollywood movie shoot out of their churches: they are historic buildings, not movie sets.

LIKE U HAD TO BRING MEL GIBSON INTO THIS. LEAVE HIM ALONE ALREADY. SHOW SOME RESPECT TO OTHER RELIGIONS. YOU ARE MAKING IT SEEM LIKE THE CATHOLICS WERE WRONG FROM BANNING THE MOVIE INTO THEIR CHURCHES.

No surprise the misogyny runs very deep in the male dominated Catholic Church! Needless to say I think the belief system that hates women and places them as 2nd class citizens is a load of crap. Job well done Hanks & Howard…..I don't find it out of bounds at all that women were treated as equals by Christ and God. It's only the word of “men” who tells us what the bible “says” who thinks women are 2nd class. I don't support organized religion by attending or giving of my money until every person is treated equally.

  61. 61

Angels & Demons was a waaaaaaay better book than The Da Vinci Code.

    65

Yeah like they were really going to let them film in their churches for a film that doesn't represent their beliefs. Why did they even borther to ask it was going to be an obvious no. Its like can we film a movie that discredits your beliefs so we can make money? LOL give me a break.

  66. 66

What a bunch of shit. They won't let them film a movie due to their "beliefs" but when a priest fucks a small young boy in the ass, that is ok with the catholics! Religion is such bullshit and the bible is a fucking man made lie.

  67. Pffft says – reply to this

Ok, before I say what I'm about to, I wanna say that I AM a catholic, baptized and confirmed!! I've never officially LEFT the church, but I also haven't been to church in about 4 or 5 years now…

    THAT SAID…

Small minded catholics of the world need to realize that neither of these books bash the catholic church!! There are radicals in the world…and they are mentioned…but in no way does Dan Brown suggest that the catholic church OR IT'S FOLLOWERS are evil doers!! They bring up theories as to what happened centuries ago…and it would serve the world much better if the half wits would open their minds to other possibilites!!

Did Jesus Christ have a child with Mary Magdaline?! I don't know…I wasn't there…. Is it possible that they were in love and people covered it up to protect the image? Absolutely!! Afterall….just look at what happens TODAY in Hollywood with certain celebs…and their publicits covering up raunchy behavior….

Seriously….the ignorance behind blind faith….pisses me off!! These two stories, no matter how controversial, are damn good…very on the edge of your seat gripping good reads…. For people to be…. NO…. The bad guys in both stories…yeah, Angels and Demons has a pretty far fetched twist at the end, but neither story suggests the catholic church is evil….

To give this a little perspective, if a director wanted to film a movie that has ties to Scientology, he would never be allowed to film in one of their churches if the story conflicted with Scientology's beliefs.
