The late billionairess hotelier Leona Helmsley (also known as the 'Queen of Mean') left her doggie, Trouble, $12 million when she passed away recently. Yes, MILLION.
However, according to new reports, a NYC judge has quietly reduced the pooch's $12 million trust fund to $2 million and signed off on a deal to pay the late billionaire's two disinherited grandchildren $6 million amid allegations that Helmsley wasn't mentally competent when she signed her will.
The trustees of Helmsley's estate argued that Trouble doesn't need the full $12 million she was left.
The judge gave them permission to place $10 million of the dog's trust into Helmsley's multibillion-dollar charitable foundation.
Trouble is currently living in Florida with the general manager of the Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel.
The Queen of Mean's will had asked that either her brother or grandson care for the dog, but both passed cause the dog's a notorious biter!

In an affidavit filed by Trouble's care taker, he says $2 million is more than enough for the dog to live off of, "Two million dollars . . . would be enough money to pay for Trouble's maintenance and welfare at the highest standards of care for more than 10 years, which is more that twice her reasonably anticipated life expectancy."
The glorified dog sitter put her annual expenses at $190,000, which includes his $60,000 guardian fee, $100,000 for ’round-the-clock security, $8,000 for grooming, $3,000 for miscellaneous expenses, $1,200 for food and anywhere from $2,500 to $18,000 for medical care.
That pooch has it better than a lot of people we know!

Wills should not be tampered with. This is unlawful to go against the wishes of the deceased. It should be contested. It doesn't matter what a mean old bag Leona Helmsley was. The grandchildren should have waited until the dog died and then put in a claim for the money. This is downright scary and could set a precedent.

It is wrong to disinherit the dog. The dog provided her with more comfort and love than any disinherited relative. This decision she be reversed. Thank heaven common sense reigns. Each case has to be looked at on its own merit for justice to actually BE justice. She was a vindictive old woman who had as much responsibility to take care of her own human family as to a non-related dog. If her grandchildren weren't around her enough to merit a mention in the will, if you read her bio, you'd know exactly why. It was her will, but it was not what a sound person would do; disinherit your family and leave ALL of it to an animal. A lot of people may disagree with me here, but pets shouldn't be able to inherit anything (money, houses, cars, etc). They can't do anything with that stuff. That dog isn't going to stroll into the local Petco with a wad of his cash and go on a shopping spree. Pets don't get social security numbers. We can't claim them as dependents on our taxes (though I'm sure a group is trying to get that changed). They're not recognized when we're alive, but when we die it's a different ballgame? Just because it's in a Will their legal status changes and they become recognizable as dependents/heirs/whatever you want to call it and entitled to inherit whatever we designate to our dependents? And the pets can't write their own wills and stipulate who gets what at the time of their death. They aren't legally recognized in society as people/humans (taxes, court, no ssn), but if they're in a will that makes it all different? It boggles the mind.
Have ANY of you read the entire story behind this? Leona left BILLIONS, yes BILLIONS of dollars to charity. The $12 million lef to this dog was chicken feed to her. I repeat, she left almost her ENTIRE BILLION dollar fortune to CHARITY.

I think this is disgraceful!!! Leona Helmsley had a right to leave her money to anyone or thing she wanted! this was very unfair for this judge to change her will! SHe was FINE mentally - the grandkids just wanted her money and she knew that - that is why she left them out and said so! This is disgusting!
