On Monday, they were amongst the first to be legally wed in California now that the state recognizes gay and lesbian marriages.

Gays may be able to go to the courthouse and obtain a piece of paper stating they are legally married, but they will never be married in God's eyes or allowed to get married in a traditional house of God. It is not the same type of marriage most hetros have, and we will never allow them to take this away from us. But you have no right to tell others how to believe. There is this little thing called SEPARATION of Church and State. PERIOD. If a certain church does not want to perform the ceremony that is their right. But if they do then more power to them. I come from a family with 7 aunts and uncles all who have been with their spouses since I was a child. One uncle has been in a loving caring relationship for 35 years with his partner and I consider his partner my uncle the same as all the other members of the family who married into it.

I don't know if you've ever studied american politics at all, but in reality the votes of the people don't actually mean anything. The politicians generally follow the popular opinion so that they can get re-elected, but they don't have to.

I'm in shock over some of these comments. I didn't get married in a church — or a"house of God"….does that not make me married in God's eyes? I was taught that God is everywhere. Also…my sister in law is infertile….does that mean that she and my brother shouldn't be married because they're not making children? I am a married hetero and I think that it is wonderful that after 55!!! years of being completely devoted to that one and only person, these 2 can finally be considered 'married'. Us heteros get married and screw it up all the time. If marriage is so sacred to us than why do so many of us get divorced?
Marriage, to the vast majority of people, is considered a legal, social and religous institution. The gays may be able to get a piece of paper that states they are legally married, but the vast majority of Americans will not consider them married in the eyes of society or God, and probably never will. Sorry that sounds harsh, but it is true.
