Something Republicans and Democrats have in common!

According to reports, former president and Democrat Bill Clinton AND the wife of presumed Republican nominee John McCain, Cindy, BOTH entered plagiarized recipes into Family Circle magazine's 5th Presidential Bake-Off.

Wife of Barack, Michelle Obama, also entered a recipe. Hers appears to be legit (for now).

The Clinton entry was reportedly swiped from the Betty Crocker cookbook and McCain's, from hershey.com.

Why bother entering if you can't come up with an original (or at least a handed-down family) recipe???

      I believe it was for cookies. They probably asked them to submit their favorite cookie recipe and so that is what they did. I'm so sure Bill Clinton has his on special recipe for anything.

      99% of the recipes people "hand down" are taken from cookbooks by their grandmas! The point of this is to give your favorite recipe, not one you made up yourself. Who the hell makes up their own recipes besides Martha Stewart?

      Considering how long the Betty Crocker cookbook has been around, it's totally become the source of most "Mom" recipes for the past 30 years or more. It's ENTIRELY possible that Bill gave Family Circle a recipe he remembered his mom cooking, never knowing where it came from.

      And I don't know if Hershey has a similar cookbook but I do know that they have been printing recipes on their boxes of cocoa forever. So probably same thing happened to The Homewrecking Bitch.

      Once again, Perez moves ever closer to being Star magazine. Check your facts idiot.

      not everyone has a handed-down family recipe. Cindy's was not the exact recipe from hershey.com, but they also were told to submit their favorite cookie recipe. plus, many recipes are copied over and over again, how can anyone say for sure if she or he knew where the recipe came from?

      Well, the article even says that the recipe was from Clinton's chef, so I don't know how you can say Clinton stole it or plagiarized. How do we know Betty Crocker didn't get the recipe from Clinton's chef? I was watching one of the cooking shows over the weekend, and to my surprised, watch someone make corn bread using the same "family recipe" my mom taught me when I was a kid.

      Actually, I don't think any of them actually submitted their own recipes. Remember not too far back when Conan O'Brien was said to have submitted recipes on not one but two seperate occassions to Family Circle and it turned out not only had he never made them before, but he never even heard if it. He even said on his show that they wanted to make the Irish dishes sound more authentic.

      Family Circle lies and should stop putting people's names attached to stuff that they aren't involved in.

      You cannot copywrite a recipe. Most cookbooks get recipes from other sources. Only 'secret ingredients' can be protected, so there is infringement here.

      Most family recipes are from cookbooks. Face it, how many true chefs do you know, people who CREATE recipes? It's rare, and having a family favorite found in a cookbook is no shame. It's also likely that someone copied that recipe and would have no idea from where, or when; it's just a damn recipe.

      Oh please, I don't believe either would have interacted with that magazine directly for a freaking cookie recipe. Maybe reps for both just knew they needed a cookie recipe, knew of one they liked, and submitted it without researching its origin. It wasn't about them creating a recipe. Just about everyone passes along favorite cookie recipes in day to day life that they did not create.

      The Family Circle bit with the cookies is beyond stupid anyway.

      Michelle Obama, unlike Cindy McCain, strikes me as the woman who will be proactive in her husband's presidency instead of just sitting back and looking pretty. Mrs. Obama is an intelligent, well educated woman who will make a great First Lady and will represent our country on behalf of President Obama well.

      This was reported on a while back relative to Cindy. Her personal assistant admitted to copying the recipe & Cindy said she didn't know. That is still kind of bad because Cindy had he assistant submit something. However, the lady is amazing especially given all the money she has had all her life. With all the chrity work she does I will let this slide. As for Bill, he was probably too busy scoring chicks to have time to submit a legit recipe.
