Disastrous!

It must be hard for an artist to realize they are no longer as popular as they once were.

Sheryl Crow is currently on tour across America and it's a big ol' bomb.

The All I Wanna Do singer's trek has sold so poorly! It's embarrassing!

Sheryl is playing to MOSTLY EMPTY venues across the U.S.

Here's a breakdown of some of her recent gigs, according to Boxscore.

Crow performed at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Pelham, Ala, on May 23rd. The venue holds 10,469 people and only 2,973 bought tix.

Ouch!

Things are so bad, that Sheryl couldn't even fill a small-to-midsize venue in New York City!!!!

Crow performed at the Rumsey Playfield in NYC on May 29th. That venue holds 5,500 people and only 3,489 bought tix.

In NYC!

Similar story in Cincinatti, where Crow played on May 25th. The National City Pavilion holds 4,114 people and only 2,790 bought tix.

It was only a summer or two ago that John Mayer was opening for Sheryl and she was headlining huge venues.

Now she can't fill small ones!

How sad.

That is sad, but I think the economy is really playing on people's entertainment dollar. Only the Important concerts are making money. Folks just aren't interested in these "artists" anymore. They ain't worth the ticket or the gas to get to concerts anymore.

Very sad for the music biz.

    31. 31

I love Sheryl Crow. I think her songs will stand the test of time but as someone else said, John Mayer didn't open for her. I saw that concert twice and both times SHE opened for HIM. Both were excellent though and it would've made sense either way.

Who wants to pay overpriced tickets to see most entertainers? I am older and remember back in the '70's and '80's you could see really great acts for under a way under $100…and that included liquid libations and party favors. At some point in the '90's…entertainers just jacked their prices way up. I am not sure how teenages afford going to concerts now, I guess their P's foot the bill. Just occurred to me too, that concerts are probably singers/bands main source of income now, as opposed to CD's sales? Oh, well, I am glad that I saw all the bands I did, and I'll still pay good $$ today to see the ol' legendary geezers (The Who, Stones, Tull..etc)

    38. trins says – reply to this

      38

Hey it can apparently happen to anyone. Two years ago I saw Aerosmith with Lenny Kravitz..it was a 20,000 seat venue, and only about 6,000 seats were sold. and I thought they sucked. Steven Tyler became fixated on some chick in the audience and started singing directly to her and making out with her - it was bad, bad, bad. I was sooo disappointed.
So maybe Sheryl Crow is just having an off summer

I don't think it's about popularity, as much it is about today's basic cost of necessities far outweighing blowing needed cash on a concert. She's been over exposed the last few years on all levels of medium, and people have been there, done that. Even Tina played the smaller, cozier venues post-Ike, so that's where she should book herself. She'd have a better time there anyway, IMHO.

    43. Dana says – reply to this

      43

Just one ticket to Sheryl Crow's concert (not even counting gas and parking costs) will get me many hours of entertainment sitting at Starbucks with my decaf Americano while listening to my MP3 player and reading a book. I'll take that over a couple of hours at a concert and it's over. Not that I don't feel sorry for the artists but I think times are changing. I can't just blow so much money at one time.

This has nothing to do with Crow but I tried to buy tickets to a nascar nextel cup race few yrs ago and it was almost $300 for 3 tickets so I bought busch race tickets for $150 and it rained all day of the race and stood outside for almost 8 hours to finally watch half a race. I was pissed and will never buy overprised tickets for any concert or race because it is not worth the money they charge anymore. If the artist sees the venue not full they probably won't perform as well as for a full venue.

I have to agreed. Also, with this declining ecomony I dont' think it is smart to pay for a concert so the rich stay rich, Im not in that business. Half these entertainers should pay their fans to watch them perform b/c most of them suck. Also, let not mention the price of admission.

Sheryl Crow needs to come to Canada where good music is actually appreciated. Secondly, what the fuck does Perez know about music anyway. Who the hell pays these ridiculous fees for live music now-a-days? For the price of one ticket you can buy a live concert DVD with perfect surround sound audio and hi-def close ups of everyone on the stage. With the extra loot saved you can buy all their CD's too.
There are only a small handful of acts actually worth the money, time and effort to go see live. I quit buying tickets when ticket master started charging big $$$ for the "privilege" of purchasing a ticket. The whole thing is a scam designed to part you with your hard earned money so these "stars" can live in mansions and fly around in private jets.
I think Sheryl Crow is very talented but I wouldn't pay much to see her. Go spend your dough at a blues festival or folk festival. That's where the undiscovered true talent of the music world is and it's a hell of a lot cheaper. You can see actual real people playing real instruments right in front of your face. It's a no brainer.

I saw her play at Clearwater, Florida to packed house. She gave her all to an audience of seasoned ticket holders who did not return the love. As stated, the economy is the problem so you must really love the performer before you spend the cash.
By the way, she did a fabulous version of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" to close the show. Fantastic!

Ever stop to think it's the economy? and the outrageous prices venues charge for concerts? I don't go to near as many concerts as I used to simply because I cannot, in good conscience, pay $75 to hear someone sing, when I can pop the $10 CD in.
