Wow, I didn't even think she was still ALIVE! She worked with so many legends. It's sad seeing the older stars pass.

So sad.. I LOVED Cyd Charisse. I'll never forget her in that green dress in the scene with Gene Kelly on "Singing in the Rain"

Beautiful! And these were in the days prior to cosmetic surgery. Loved her dancing. Her and Sinatra/Astaire? Now that's talent. If you don't watch the older classics you should start. You could learn a thing or two! :) CHARISMA!

cyd charisse is the WOMAN in the pic. young people don't know her; she was in most of the musicals from the 40's and 50's. she was also in Janet Jackson's "Alright" video; the lady who came out of the store in the red dress and danced with Janet.

That's unfortunate to hear. She and Ann Miller were my favourite female dancers from that era.

  33. 33

I hear she had KILLER Beef Curtains. :D Her, and Claudette Colbert. And I hear that Milton Berle partook in them. Yep.

Wow some of you are idiots who obviously watch newer and stupid movies if you don't know who Cyd Charisse was. She was an amazing dancer and a great talent and it's very sad that she has died. And for those who said "He" honestly just shut up and if you were refering to Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire just kill yourselves if you don't know about them.

Taylor your comments a deplorable!! Cyd Charisse was a beautiful, classy, star. She was in some of the great musicals of the 1940s and 1950s. Loved her most of all in BRIGADOON. Saw her in person once at a 'meet and greet' event at the Claremont Colleges in Claremont, CA. She was a real lady.

She was the reason I became a dancer. THe only thing that makes me less sad is knowing that she lived an amazing life and inspired many of us to go for our dreams. The dance/dream sequence in Singing in the Rain and the entirety of "Brigadoon" are my faves. I thank my parents for insisting that I watch these films, rather than just plugging me into crappy Sat. morning cartoons.

Perez plz let us know more about the absolute greats from the GOLDEN ERA of movies - Cyd Charisse was beautiful, an absolute class act - i luv luv luv the scene from singing in the rain when that huge silk scarf is floating behind her - and for all you ignorant ppl plz take the time to watch some of the greatest movies ever made during the 40's and 50's you eyes will be opened as to what a "MOVIE STAR" truly is!!! P.S. Im only 20 and i believe the movies made in the golden era are truly the most magnificent you will ever see!!!!

  52. 52

Re: rding – I'll take you up on the bet that if you asked your parents who are 50 they wouldn't know who she was. Anyone who has an interest in show/dance/music, and some of the most entertaining dance scenes of a whole genre would know 50 or 15, these peeps are classic. If your parents are 50, if they have any culture at all, from any point in their lives, they know. And that lady had legs that went on forever. The manufacturered "stars" of today can't patch the ass of half of the ones who truly earned the term "star." Go ahead, ask your parents….

I can understand how some people might not recognize who she is. I just had this conversation with a co-worker, I was like WHAT? You don't know Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire??

But remember - this is the internet. There are people from all over the world who come to this site. I wouldn't expect you to know the names of the legendary performers in say Ireland, or India, right?

But if your from the USA or even canada (where I'm from). And your parents were born here, you should know who they are. If you are first generation american or canadian and younger than 30 then I suppose you will get a pass on this one. :)

Oh I loved her and her movies. So cool, chic, classic, and beautiful. The times(for the most part) were so wonderful back then in a lot of ways. Gentlemen were gentlemen, ladies were ladies, and people actually had manners. I don't see that nearly as much today. The last of the old-timers. God bless you Cyd for sharing with us your beautiful talent. Cyd will be dancing forever.

Bridgdoon is coming on this week on TCM. Watch and learn! She was a great
dancer. Oh, her legs were out of this world. Plus, she could sing and act.
Stayed married to Tony Martin for over 50 odd years. I'd like to see someone
in Hollywood top that! She was A list all the way. RIP! There will never be another Cyd!

That's back when dancers were really dancers.
But when did PerezHilton.com become an obituary site? Is everyone who drops dead reported here???

I wanted to be Cyd in "Singing in the Rain" when I was small. The legs, the black bob hair, the green dress…

  67. 67

I remember seeing her in Janet Jackson's "Alright" video (from Rhythm Nation album). Even then, at 68 or 69, she still had the legs and the IT look that made her so famous back in the 50's and 60's.
Children who don't recognize who people like Cyd Charisse are—should come up for air, occasionally, from the cesspool of pop culture that most youths drown themselves in and wallow in these days.
Read a book. Google REAL OLD-FASHIONED CELEBRITES AND STARS. I'm talking REAL stars famous for something, not famous for nothing. Check out imdb.com or nndb.com sometimes.
Paris Hilton says she wants "to be famous for doing 'Stuff' ". For Christ's sake, shoot her—and the Lohan whore and the Spears trainwreck—in the head.

I feel sorry for those of you who don't know her! This girl was the hottest chick on the planet in the technicolor movies! I think she is waaaay hotter (swagger) than Marylin Monroe. This is coming from a straight female Hispanic in her early 30's. I learned how to give an effective strip tease through her! HHHHOOOTTTTT! I will miss you honey!

    By the way dear Perez,
