It gets so ridiculous that every time something happanes to somebody in the news industry we are forced to deal with day after day of tributes. I didn't see this much coverage when Mother Therasea died. Can we please get some perspective here? Ok, We get it people on NBC, CBS, FOX, and ABC, he was your friend, fine, but this shouldn't be a weeklong festival of mourning, have some dignity and professional standards.

It was beautiful! I was driving in NW DC yesterday evening and saw this. In fact, there was ANOTHER, lighter, rainbow that arched over the one showin in the video. It was insanely beautiful. I've never seen one on top of the other like that before. I risked crashing the car to snap a picture of it with my phone. What a nice tribute!

  32. 32

do rainbows never happen in dc usually?? i dont know…

  33. Devor says – reply to this

    33

I can not believe serious journalists would report on rainbows and unicorns.
Russert's death was untimely, he was well respected and a pro but other people died that day too. I hardly think a rainbow appeared to commemorate one person's death.

  34. p-lip says – reply to this

    34

OMFG!!! this is like GOD or something, maybe an alien lifeform, like bigfoot or Godzilla, Santa Claus???

  35. ncook says – reply to this

    35

I was in Annapolis yesterday - and we were in amazment over this rainbow!
I have seen many of them, of course - but there was something so sureal about this one……. We didn't know we were watching Tim's rainbow.

    He will be missed

  36. Angel says – reply to this

    36

Somehow perhaps the rainbow was a rendition of Tim Russert way of saying I hear you, Thank you. I will miss Tim Russert's Meet the Press and his luminary smile.

  37. R.I.P says – reply to this

    37

    That's beautiful. R.I.P Tim Russert.
And can we stop writing how this is unnecessary seriously people nobody asked for your opinion on that but on the rainbow that they saw that day. Sometimes in life you just need to keep your opinions to yourself. If you don't understand why they are covering him than you obviously never got it. It was not just because he was their friend so many people went to his funeral because he was more than that he went above it.

  38. emm says – reply to this

    38

Apparently he was a devout Catholic :)

Eternal rest grant unto him oh Lord.

    40

Perez - you don't follow politics - you're just putting stories like this up so people will think you have half a brain - seriously fag, stick to amy winehouse and madonna - that's all you really know.

  41. nicol says – reply to this

    41

ok, that's beautiful and all…but it really bothers me when people use the word ironic improperly…it wasn't ironic that the rainbow showed after that…it was a coincidence…now if they were playing some song about how rainbows are stupid and never appear and the rainbow shows up, then it's ironic…urgh!

  42. peasn says – reply to this

    42

major goosebumps! I saw the whole memorial and cried the entire time! and then to have the rainbow after the song was played-wow

  43. OdJob says – reply to this

    43

Yeah, like that got something to do with the funeral - NOT.

  44. ceece says – reply to this

    44

With ALL the coverage of his death, I just knew that some would connect the rainbow after the thunderstorm with Tim. Yes, he was an incredible man, a fair man, an intelligent man, but, please, people are going overboard. I am sorry he passed away, but the news seems to have forgetten about everything else-something he would not do. Thousands have lost their homes in the midwest. The war is still going on. earthquakes, fires, etc.

  45. cambe says – reply to this

    45

    Re: R.I.P
You wrote "If you don't understand why they are covering him than you obviously never got it."

Oh, we understand quite well, if you die and you are friends with somebody who works on TV then you get an entire week of them trotting their grief out for the cameras. Meanwhile thousands of other people, some who led better lives, some who led worse died that day too and we heard nothing about them. The guy was a TV presenter. Time to get over it and move on. If Katie Couric dies are we going to have to spend a month talking about how wonderful she was at giving out baking tips on the Today show? Get over it.

  46. 46

AND STILL WE HAVE PEOPLE BELIEVING GOD DOES NOT EXIST! SUCH A GOOD, DIVINE EXAMPLE OF GOD'S LOVE RIGHT THERE

Our lovely Father in heaven has shined down today to comfort the sorrowful souls. God needed Tim in Heaven and is happy he is there. This sign is our sign that everything is going to be ok as long as we trust in Him.

  48. Rumor says – reply to this

    48

Its one thing to not speak ill of the dead; its quite another thing to re-write them into sainthood, once they pass. All over the airwaves the talking heads are calling this a tragedy. No…a tragedy is what we have in Iraq — a tragedy that Tim helped create, by carrying water for the Bush administration. A tragedy is to stand on your honor, like Joe Wilson did, only to be smeared in the public circle and have your wife's career ruined (i.e. - Valerie Plame, for the bubbleheads) — a tragedy that Tim facilitated. Tim died of a heart attack. Last I checked natural causes were not tragic, as they go with the territory called life. Sad? Of course; especially for his family and friends. Tragic? Let's get a little perspective, folks.

and no, this is not a coincidence.

  54. Twigg says – reply to this

    54

Aw come on guys cut them some slack. He was their friend and you would be sad for more than a day too if your friend suddenly died? And they were just reporting his funneral (which is their job) and so what if they wanted to show the world how it all synced up. No one said you had to watch it and really it is only what like a 30 sec clip? So just chill out and look at the wonders of God.

    56

Wow! That's awesome…..just like our Lord. There are NO coincidences people, never. And rainbows are God's promise to never flood the earth again. So, that's why rainbows usually occur after rain, it's His promise to us.
But I think that was wonderful to see that and the timing of that rainbow to appear. I hope Tim knew Jesus and is in heaven praising Him with the others….

  57. hlots says – reply to this

    Absolutely amazing! RIP Mr. Russert.

  58. Toops says – reply to this

    58

I am incredibly sad about Tim Russert's death. 58 years old is way too young to die. This election was really something that he lived and breathed, and it's sad that he won't be here reporting on it in November.
Rumor, if you check archives, he was one of the very few who asked the tough questions about this war from the get go.
I morn for his wife, for his son Luke who has shown so much poise this week, and for a nation who lost a dear friend.

    60

The man singing "Over the Rainbow" is Brother Iz from Hawaii who passed away in 97.
It made me wonder if these 2 souls met after the song was done. It's like Brother Iz came to get Tim Russert.

Now i can say the world REALLY IS changing. The news reporting a rainbow at Tim's memorial, and even the rainbow…..wow the winds of change are here. We are coming into a world of peace. I promise you……………

  68. Anon. says – reply to this

    68

I think that is so cool. It's as if Timmy was just waving good bye to everybody and it's like "Hey! I'm OK up here. It's all good!" Even if there is no heaven or God or whatever, I still believe that people's spirits hang around to watch over their loved ones for a while. I also think they hang around because they aren't used to being dead and they are making a transition. Once they get used to it, then they stop being around anymore. They have let go.

  69. gigi says – reply to this

    69

There was a rainbow because it rained and then the sun came out, for fuck's sake.

  70. Megan says – reply to this

  71. Carlo says – reply to this

    71

Thank you, Carri, for noticing the misuse of 'ironic!!' People in the news business should know something that basic. It makes me insane because no one seems to understand what the word means anymore.
That aside, if you don't "get" why such a fuss is being made about Tim Russert, then you didn't watch him or know anything about him. And that's unfortunate for you. In the meantime, why not keep your thoughts to yourself? Why vilify a dead man?

  72. Ashle says – reply to this

You know, I've been noticing that whenever I'm in a positive mood, positive things happen to me and around me and when I'm in a negative mood, bad things seem to happen. Someone told me that's what that book, The Secret is about. I've never read it so I'm not sure. But I do feel that in general, the media amplifies all the negativity that happens around the world and as a result, people become more negative and anxious. I know about Tim Russert has passed away, but in general I've been trying to stay far away from TV and all forms of media because I refuse to buy into all the negativity. As a result, I feel much happier and optimistic. If everyone on this board decided to have a really positive day and choose to ignore the negativity around them, I'd bet the results would be truly amazing. I have no problem believing that the rainbow was a sign from Tim Russert. I received a similar sign after one of my best friend's passed away.

I live in DC and the rainbow just didn't appear. We had really bad rain followed by sunshine, which as everyone knows forms a rainbow. I think his death was an untimely passing and quite sad, but I don't think Fox News should make it seem like a rainbow appeared out of nowhere as soon as the song was over.
