Two Faced???

Filed under: Politik > Al Gore

wenn1726093.jpg

Talk about hypocrisy!

Hardcore environmentalist and the man behind An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore, is apparently not following what he preaches.

Gore has taken steps this past year to make his Tennessee home more energy-efficient. However, it looks like the OPPOSITE took place.

According to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, Gore's home energy use has risen by more than 10% over the past year!

The amount of energy used in his home during the past year could have powered about 232 homes in the US for an entire month!

Drew Johnson, President of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, says "A man's commitment to his beliefs is best measured by what he does behind the closed doors of his own home. Al Gore is a hypocrite and a fraud when it comes to his commitment to the environment, judging by his home energy consumption."

Shortly after the Tennessee Center for Policy Research first exposed Gore's home energy use, the former VP tried to quickly make changes to his home energy consumption.

Gore installed a geothermal system, solar panels, replaced the home's ductwork and windows, and even added energy efficient light-bulbs.

However, his new and energy efficient looking house is now waisting even more power.

How is that possible????

Gore was originally burning up an average of 17,768 kWh per month, which is 1,638 kWh more energy per month than before the renovations. The energy consumption costs him $16,533.

According to the Energy Information Administration, the average American household consumes only 11,040 kWh in an entire year. That's over 6,000 kWh less than Gores uses in a month!

TCPR President Johnson, added, "Actions speak louder than words, and Gore's actions prove that he views climate change not as a serious problem, but as a money-making opportunity. Gore is exploiting the public's concern about the environment to line his pockets and enhance his profile."

The reason for those comments?

When the film An Inconvenient Truth was released in 2007, Gore won an Academy Award for best documentary feature. He also won a Grammy, an Oscar, and the Nobel Peace Prize.

It seems Gore's made quite a lot of money promoting for a greener environment.

He made an estimated extra $100 million last year.

What do U think Al Gore should do about his extreme energy use?

With what he does for the environment, and the awareness he brings to millions and millions of people, I think you should leave him be and not blow something so out of proportion—giving him a bad name and causing negativity to flourish where it needn't be. And I think you should learn how to spell. 'Waisted' is just plain stupid. And you know, so is this site.

Some libraries are only allowing that movie to go under the 'fiction' category…and for a good reason!

I wouldn't consider that being hypocritical since Gasoline is our main concern now. It is impractical to think that electrical consumption can be curbed overnight. His home would have to convert to solar power which is only practical in a climate like the south west.

He is bringing awareness to an issue that is affecting us all. Climate change leads to unfortunate weather related calamities like Katrina. It's not like we caught him filling up 200 Hummer's in his backyard with premium gas.

    Perez,

Read more into it before you post propaganda like this! Al Gore lives in a mansion, with offices and such - its much larger than an average home and obviously takes much more energy to keep it up and running. He also lives in a distrivt where energy costs 10X more than the American average, making those statistics a lot less meaningful.

The man spreads a powerful message, and invests in money in companies that reduce emissions and has a carbon neutral footprint. He has brought so many important issues to light - do you really think it is responsible to attack the messenger?

This is no surprise, the Goracle has always been all about his own ego and being perceived as a "special" human being, a "great" man. That's is only REAL interest. The biggest tip-off? At the Oscars, he allowed the fawning celebretards to address him as "Mr. President." I get that they all feel he was robbed, I know he's bitter. If he had any REAL respect for the office of President of the United States of America, he would never have allowed them to continue addressing him in that manner. He is NOT the President, no matter how much anyone wishes he were, and allowing people to address him in that manner speaks volumes about his priorities, his true interests, and his basic character.

Drew Johnson is a hard core Republican who spends most of his time whining about what Democrats do and say. I wouldn't put much weight behind anything he says. Al could've substantially lowered his energy consumption and Drew would've said that he doesn't support his community or some bull malarkey like that… He also runs this "organization" out of his basement. Don't quote them anymore…they don't count.

  52. ugh says – reply to this
    52

whoever wrote this is a dumbass.

the energy use at his home is high because he moved an entire office building into it. you can't compare it to a normal house, because it's not. compare it to an office building and you will see how tiny his energy use is.

you people need to do research.

  53. 53

This isn't actually true. This is information that is being propagated by a right-wing pseudo official-sounding group. Al and Tipper Gore live in a home that is as close to being truly green as any modern home in a big city could possibly be. Check your facts better before throwing stones, Mario.

Do you trust the provider of this information? I don't.

"The attack originates from the Tennessee Center For Policy Research. Thus, the rightwing non-think tank deserves a post all its own.

Seeing the Forest notes that TCPR claims "to be non-partisan but only link(s) to far-right and conservative groups so regardless of what their status is with the IRS, this is a conservative, strongly-leaning Republican organization."

I think he should take that extra hundred mil and use it to buy hybrids for disadvantaged single mothers who can't afford a car. Sure, it'll only buy few tens of thousands, but what the heck.

But will he do anything of the sort? Of course not. Because he talks long on environment, compassion, poverty…but when it comes right down to it, he'd much rather get rich while recommending that the government tax you and me and let us pay for everything than give up his gigantic, energy-sucking
home and the disgusting wealth he's accumulating from the unfortunate state of the climate.

    What a pig.

  60. deb says – reply to this
    60

This is BS. I'm sure it's written by some right wing hack! There is a good explanation, if it's even true. Give me a break! Al Gore has an older home that is very difficult to retrofit. I have heard him say that he also buys carbon credits to offset his own energy usage. How many people bother with that?

  61. ATR says – reply to this
    61

They have no idea why his energy use was up for the year, maybe he was hosting alot of events at his home which would cause the use of more electricity and things like that. I get more pissed off when celebrities preach "green" then take private jets everywhere!

Gore is a fake and fraud! He as invested Millions in "green" companies so it is in his best interest for there to be Global warming. If Al found out tomorrow that Global warming is not true, he would lose millions and not be very happy at all. Here on the east coast we have had the coolest spring in the last 20 years. According to British scientist the last hottest year was 1998, 10 years ago! Many scientists are saying we are entering into a cooling period, of course Gore is not happy about any of this. And from a personal standpoint, he's as ugly as Hell.

  65. ice says – reply to this
    65

Well I have persisted that he is a hyprocrite for ages. For instance, I don't recall the environment being this prevalent an issue in his presidential campaign. Perhaps if he had brought it to the forefront then, he could have made a stronger attempt to change the system rather than to wage environmental war against it. One must realize though that it isn't environmental preaching that he should be recognized for, it should be how much awareness he brought to the issue. I believe that in the long run his ability in raising excitement and interest in saving our earth has saved more energy than what he uses at his own home. He shouldn't be praised (or persecuted) for the money or anything else, because his contribution to our Earth is invaluable. I mean you aren't knocking celebrities who use disastrously wasteful private jets, and ridiculously oversized houses (which gobble energy). You should get on Oprahs ass if anybody, she is the biggest environmental hypocrite I have ever laid eyes on.

if you're getting all of your energy from sources that are carbon neutral (solar, wind, etc) it doesn't matter how much energy you use. even if he cut his energy usage by half, he'd still be emitting the same amount of green house gasses. he discussed this in his movie.

im sure he also buys carbon credits–which i personally think are bull. but it's better than nothing.
