Perez, don't you think you need to change yourself before you complain about other people? Its about time you go on a diet.

No one America has the right to point the finger at any other country when it comes to obesity. Especially not overwight bloggers

omg… thats sooooooo bad. aussie aussie aussie OI OI OI!!!

    14. Georg says – reply to this

      14

You can make statistics tell any story Perez! Having lived, in both countries, I'd put the US at the top of the list for being the worst at many things! Just because some Aussie bogans sit in front of their TV's and eat KFC till they explode, doesn't mean that we have a less healthy lifestyle here or less availability to good, fresh healthy food. Australia over the US any day, you fat fuck! (you'd be a bogan if you lived here!)

    15. ameri says – reply to this

      15

I've seen a lot of people from around the world and the fattest I have seen is Americans. It definitely needs to be changed but Austrailians I'm sure compare to no where on the same level as Americans.

    16. elle says – reply to this

      16

      this is totally false…

we just have more muscley people, thus a higher BMI.

Theres no way we are fatter than americans. NO WAY.

    17. Natal says – reply to this

      17

Ahahaha have a look around America, we don't have half as many fat people as you. I don't know ANYONE obese.

    18. Caitl says – reply to this

      18

Re: sof – Actually, according to this article, Australians officially ARE fatter than Americans. Who would have thought?

    19. Austr says – reply to this

      19

Shit. This isn't good. Oh well…just one less thing for us to bag the Americans about (though it won't stop us).

    20. Dr St says – reply to this

      20

Listen up Fat Douch Bag! You were a sickening overweight "Blogger" 5 minutes ago. Dont go passing judgement so quick.

    21. Stace says – reply to this

      21

Slightly shocking but whatever. America will always be the fattest nation with such a huge number of overweight people. At least Australia only has 20 million people.

    22. Kate says – reply to this

      22

Come on, American. As a Canadian we laugh at your obesity problem. You used to be the land of Barbie dolls and beauty. The last time I went to Disneyland I was shocked at all the fat people blubbing around.

Seriously, P-nasty. You need to stick to the CELEBRITY GOSSIP. Stay away from the social problems.

    23. Ashle says – reply to this

      23

OK.. its simple, there are fatty's in every country and if they wanna be fat let them be fat. its their choice if they want to die quicker than the rest of us!!!

    24. Giorg says – reply to this

      24

Here's the thing: I'm not suprised that my country of Australia has overtaken America as the fatest country in the world.

Our society is filled with American influences. Tastless fatty food from fast food restuarants that is cheaper and easier to eat.

We have higher living costs than most other countrys, and we own far less than our American and English counterparts. We are no longer the cheap country to live. Poms who came to our country in droves for a better way of life have stopped coming. Petrol here costs a lot more than America.

So yeah, all of that has contributed to us becoming fat. We simply don't have the time or the money to lose weight.

But I also blame the Americanisation of our culture. It's sad.

    25. choco says – reply to this

      25

LOL….That's hilarious coming from you Perez, pot calling the kettle black!! But seriously, i thought everyone in Australia looked like Alex O'loughlin, i was about to move to Australia permanently! I guess i'll just stay here and get fat right here! (On a serious note, anytime you make a general statement like that, claiming that all of Australia is overweight, you know you're wrong and you're going to rightfully offend some people…then again, i'm talking to Perez Hilton, offending people is what you do…cheers!!!!)

    26. Ashle says – reply to this

      26

PS.. Aussies may come in packs of fat but atleast we arent the size of 5 fat aussies put together

    27. willi says – reply to this

      27

wow perez, you're quick to post something like this when you, yourself, are still overweight.

quit being a dick and fix your fucking hair, what are you 12?

    28. Sydne says – reply to this

      28

I wonder where all the fatties live… because I rarely see one.

    29. nina says – reply to this

      29

i think that this is terrible…i live in australia and it doesnt seem that bad but i guess statistics dont lie…
i think that someone really needs to take the initiative to do something and change this because lets face it some obese people just dont have the will to do it on their own
also its not aussie peoples fault that the portion sizes are bigger its the companies

    30. adria says – reply to this

      30

Not to bust your balls, but Australia has wait 20-25 million people and many of then are from other countries? So it not Australian's that are fat it the people they let come into the country and stay.

    31. Me says – reply to this

      31

All the overweight Aussie's need to stop eating American fast food it's not good for us–hell did nobody watch supersize it? Sitting in front of the telly and eating Macs is bad for your health.
Australia needs healthy people—healthy people encourage healthy kids that go on and beat the crap out of everyone in Swimming, Tennis, Football, Hockey(not on ice) Netball etc. Parents do the right thing.
I'm ashamed that we took this title from the US-it is NOTHING to be proud of.

    32. bitch says – reply to this

      32

Americans““““ I'm sure will be catching up to their numbers!! With all the fast food places and high sodium frozen foods“` it doesn't surprise me one bit.
People need to eat like we ate in the 70's. Meat, potato, and veggies, a piece of bread, and a glass of milk.
      !

      !
There were NO over weight kids when I was growing up either.

My sister will be in LA next week… I've told her that if she gets a picture of you picking your nose I'll love her forever… or any celebrity for that matter, but especially you :)

    34. 34

Aussies!? What's happening down there you fat asses? Get on your treadmills!

    35. Eliot says – reply to this

I think you need to address your own obesity before pointing your own porky finger at us Aussies!

    43. dohbo says – reply to this

      43

uhhh..i love your site (just found out about it a few months ago) but c'mon, is this necessary? and uh hey perez, you're not exactly the ideal picture of health either.
      peace.

    44. em says – reply to this

      44

like u can talk perez!! as an aussie i have to say that i dont really see that many fat people around. i'd like to see how the stats for that were worked out and also by who - bet it was an american!

haha woah thats almost half our population lol but americas fat people are like double our obese ppl anyway lol………..oh well its still sad

    49. cathe says – reply to this

      49

shut up with your idiotic opinions perez.
don't just go mouth off about things when you're really in no position to.
you are a CELEBRITY GOSSIP BLOGGER, not a doctor.

i agree with 'No one in America has the right to point the finger at any other country when it comes to obesity. Especially not overwight bloggers'

i'm really beginning to dislike you perez.

    50. RR says – reply to this

      50

the only reason this is so is because Australia has a way smaller population than the US but has a large country therefore warping the scale.

    51. cathe says – reply to this

      51

ps. that's only as a percentage, numbers-wise there are faaaar more obese/overweight americans.
      including yourself.
pot calling the kettle black much?

    52. rose says – reply to this

      52

I was born in Australia, and have always struggled with my weight.
This being said, the last time I went back there I was surprised to see REALLY fat people…all around the place.
Australians are getting huge, and it is sad because we were once a very active country - in general - in the past (and this is me writing - the fat girl in the class for most of my childhood).
I have no dislike for those over their "healthy" weight. I just know what tolls the excess weight takes on health, mobility, and general well-being.
I have been meaning to leave a comment for you Perez, and it is always that you are sculpting yourself into a different person. Congratulations. You look great.

    53. poppe says – reply to this

      more cushion for the pushin!

    54. meh says – reply to this

      54

yeah it sucks and all but as Stace said we only have 20 million people….so i think Australia's 9 million fat people is still better than America's how ever many million.

    55. Pikad says – reply to this

      55

The only difference between America and Australia is the percentage.
Australia is 26% and America is 25%.
      Big woop!
America has a population over 300 million and little Australia only has over 20 million.
I suggest American still has the "bigger" problem.

    56. jason says – reply to this

      56

      like u perez

    57. Kitte says – reply to this

      57

ROFL…Perez who are you to talk?? You're the poster child for fatty lazy people. What, did you recently go on a diet or something and now you feel like you're one to speak of a healthy lifestyle? Well, if that's the case it's just a matter of time before you're scarfing cheese fries and ice cream.

Seriously, stick to what you know.

    58. OMFG says – reply to this

      58

omfg Perez loses a couple of pounds and acts like he is the global spokesMAN for overweight people.

oh yeah, castro is dead! LOL

    60. Kate says – reply to this

      60

These obese people must live on the east coast! I live in Western Australia and sure there are big people here but I wouldn't say 9 million out of 22 million. That's insane. Almost everyone I know and see is an a healthy weight.

    61. aussi says – reply to this

      61

umim aussie…ok ok aussies are all big drinkers get over it…
but from that comment coming from america (a nation 'fatter' than us?) its a bit contradictory!!!
we arent that fat! and most ppl do excercise…a lot

    62. Meggi says – reply to this

      62

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???
You're all sitting here slamming the dude for drawing our attention to the TRUTH. And you're collective arguments are that "It's not your area of expertise" or "Who care if we are fat, that’s our business". Pretty piss weak in my opinion. Obesity and unhealthy lifestyle cases are admitted to hospitals more often then car crash victims and people with the flu.
So what happens when that innocent victim of a car accident is your relative and i have to send him to another hospital possibly kilometers away? I don't have any intensive care beds for him because they're all full of fat fucker who had heart attacks all because they couldn't get of their ass, do some exercise and eat sensibly.
Are you going to whinge? Bet my sweet ass you will.

    63. Ozzy says – reply to this

      63

It saddens me to see you all jump on the deffensive using arguments such as "we have a lower population so not as many fat ppl" or "all the fat ppl have come here from other countries".. Maybe the reason why we have such a problem with obesity is because ppl are constantly in denial, and blame their issues on the 'Americanisation' of our society.. I don't know what country you people are living in, but unless you never leave your house (and even if you don't there are shows like 'biggest loser' which reflect our obesity problem) you would notice that we have an overweight population.
Instead of making excuses we should be working on finding a solution. Prevention is the best cure..
P.s Leave Perez alone! He's working on his weight issues.. All those who accuse him of saying harsh things and then go on to call him fat are hypocrites. If you don't like him, what are you doing reading his blog?

    64. lala says – reply to this

      64

Wow as an Aussie I must say I'm quite saddened by this. I'm currently living overseas in Hong Kong and they don't have any of the bullshit "Big is Beautifull" slogans here that you find in AUS, it's time we stopped our acceptance of obesity. If your fat, fucking lose weight or suffer the health consequenes.
P.s coming from you Perez you don't think your being a tad hyporitical?

    65. queen says – reply to this

      65

why is it everyone else's fault that fat ppl are fat? get on a treadmill. its not that hard!!

    66. rhi says – reply to this

      66

I understand that obesity is a major concern, not just here in Australia but everywhere. I think it's sad that we are such a proud sporting nation, yet we are coming first in the fat stakes. I know the Australian government is trying to get us motivated with a get fit for life campaign, but it is up to the individual to be motivated to make the change. I am an Aussie, and am by no means fat, nor are most of my friends, so I am not too sure what part of our population is making us the fattest nation, but good on you Perez for raising awareness, this is for the health of individuals. Get outside and find your 30 minutes of fitness a day :)

    67. Lisa says – reply to this

    68. Jill says – reply to this

      68

yes 9 million australian adults are fat but australia has a population of 24 million.
the USA on the other hand have a population of 250 million (i think) and apparently 3/4 of americans are fat meaning 180 million americans are obese.

      72

Re: Giorg – So you're blaming the US for Australia's fatty problem, are you serious??? Cost of living is relative everywhere, you can't compare cost of living because there are way too many variables involved. And are you seriously going to tell me it is more expensive to stay in and cook your own damn food you buy at the grocery store than eating some fatty foods that invaded your country? Have more self control, run laps around your school, or get up earlier and run! or walk! Put-the-burger-down! I don't think it's cheaper once you add up all the "easy to eat" meals your stuffing down your throat. You're probably fat and that's why you have to blame some one else, or better yet, how bout a country! yeah!
Go shoot a kangaroo, I hear they're pests over there and are quite tasty, you can make some stews… dry meat, sandwiches, all sorts of meals!

    73. nat says – reply to this

      75

"The latest figures show 4 million Australians — or 26% of the adult population — are now obese compared to an estimated 25% of Americans"

There are far more americans then there are australian's. That statistic means squat! I could compare this to that of the Michael Moore gun statistic, HE DOESN"T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN EACH COUNTRY!

      Re: Janic
I am pretty sure that PERCENTAGES take into account the number of people in each country. If it was just a number, like 4 million Aus. out of all the Aussies, and how ever many Americans out of the total of Americans. Yeah. Math. = good.

    81. Todd says – reply to this

      81

When they say fat, they mean anybody whose (BMI) Body Mass Index is over 25-30

This isnt always accurate, coz it doesnt always take muscle which weighs more than fat into account.

And also we wouldn't have such a weight problem here in Australia, if we got rid of the fastfood chains from America! lol

McDonalds, Krispy Creme, Burger King, etc

      STOP EATING THEM PEOPLE!

Also notice where they strategically place fastfood places, always in lower socio-economic areas! Poor people! Stop eating crap!

I was an obesse teenager and it took me two years to get rid of the wieght and turn into my favulous sleF! I believe that australian lives are at risk! its digusting the ammount of kids at my school that just eat crap, bring 1.25 litre cokes to school and dont exercise as they bring notes to get out of PE (gym for americans) and once u are a senior (11 and 12) u dont have to do sport! its a disgrace! there needs to be more exercise and less fast food! it makes me sick that we are such a small nation and we have beaten AMERICA! who is SO much bigger in population to us!!

    85. India says – reply to this

      85

PEREZ!!! Wont exactly do you need to change? Before you start complaining about another country being over weight, how about you take a long hard look in the mirror honey, you are considered obese yourself. I am australian, once i was concidered overweight until i turned my life around. It really disspoints me to see an overweight person himself judging others. You of all people should know what its like and therefore if you want to change anything, keep on dieting and think of yourself before trying tok change others. Until you help yourself, you cant help others!!!

    86. Morga says – reply to this

I went on holiday last year to Australia from England and I have to say I did not come across many fat people, infact quite the opposite (compared to the UK). On the beach I was astonished by how fit and athletic most aussie's looked - i felt almost embarresed taking my clothes off (and i have a good body by european standards).

I went to Sydney, Australia and the nearby beaches and I was amazed by two things: One, everyone was absolutely thin and gorgeous (everyone, I only saw ONE overweight person, and that was on the train) and two there are no black people (African or otherwise), other than a Aborigonie who was there for the tourists. It was like I was visiting another dimension. Australia people are absolutely gorgeous, no kidding. The lack of color surprised me though. Life is definitely more fun when there are lots of mixtures of colors around you!

We can't do anything about it. People need self control. It's not that hard to eat an apple or a peice of watermelon instead of a super size order of french fries for an after work snack.

I find this very EASY TO BELIEVE- i went on a trip to inland australia and was soooooo shocked at how many obese people there were- like pretty much everyone in the street was overweight. Yet in Sydney- where I live- everyone is really thin! I think we're focussing too much attention on the eating disorders rampant in capital cities- such as Sydney -and not enough attention on the country areas where people are eating themselves to death!
